oh really? what's it called?
"Everybody"
10.Transparent
The Sea and Cake are back! Thrill Jockey is proud to release Everybody, the band's seventh album and first full-length release in over four years. The record, available nationwide on May 8, marks the latest, perhaps greatest, chapter in a career that has become a benchmark for indie artists everywhere.
Everybody finds The Sea and Cake continuing to perfect their singular brand of dreamlike pop music that sounds delicately handcrafted, yet effortless all the same. Sheets of glowing guitar tones skip along propulsive percussion underscored by gentle, introspective bass lines, all adorned by breathlessly delivered lines of lyrical poetry.
The Sea and Cake is Sam Prekop (guitar, vocals), Archer Prewitt (guitar), John McEntire (drums) and Erik Claridge (bass). Since the release of their self-titled debut in 1993, The Sea and Cake have worked with John McEntire in the studio. For the first time in their fourteen year career, they have enlisted the recording talents of Brian Paulson (Slint, Wilco).
"Music that looks to the heavens but keeps its feet blissfully on the ground." -- GQ
"A warm sonic cocoon with synthesizer veins, it possesses the rare quality of making the listener feel like an active ingredient of the music." -- Billboard
". . . a downright staple of indie rock" -- Pitchfork Media
Hooray!! I love these guys.....The Biz is still my favourite album.
Sam Prekop's voice annoys me.
I tried really hard to give these guys a good shot.
hmmm, i get the feeling i should like this band but i've never heard them.
although, annoying voice you say? but then, you like...all kinds of stuff. er. yeah.
It's not that annoying really, just not my bag...
they are bloody awesome, filterfeed!
haha, i'm a chronic whinger-about-vocals and these guys have for some reason never raised my ire.
but i'll probably be really conscious upon next listen and be like "whoa these guys are crap!"
yeah his voice does get a bit "samey" but its OK with me!
name comparisons of voice-sounding like and i will know there and then to diss them if i don't like what i read.
but you should listen first, filterfuck
yeah, i know, i was just being stupid.
sample here :
I can't really pinpoint why I don't like him. I probably should like him, he has a somewhat unique voice and it's hardly offensive.
I find the music a little 'thin' too.
WERE YOU?????????????????????????????/
I dig his croon. Saw him play solo at the Hoey in 99 and thoought he was awesome.
i used to love these guys and still bust out the fawn or the biz occaisionally, but the two gentlemen remix ep is SO COOL. anyone else heard it?
oh yeah! he came out and played the punters club with the woman from the spinanes (maybe?). vaguely remember him closing with 'do now fairly well'.
sea and cake make for a great sunday morning listen.
the two gentlemen remix ep is SO COOL. anyone else heard it?

nah.
well its got more than 10 songs on it for a change so you never know...
i like this band - and they made my golden plains - but sometimes i wish they'd use their musical superskills to just, like... branch out?
nah not sea and cake anok. it's not in their m.o.!
Car Alarm will be released October 21 on Thrill Jockey.
Sam still has my Melbourne guidebook :(
now how will I find the St Kilda Night Market??
st kilda has night markets? if its food you need to take me there
I COULD if Sam had left the book at reception like he said he would..
more remix albums like two gentlemen, then.
Sam told me they won't do a remix album anytime soon...he sees it as an antiquated artform.
listening to this sucker for the first time now. play-by-play commentary! (or not) well it starts off with a rock-y track but then it just settles into classic just sea and cake. yeh anok i don't think this is going to be the album that they're going to branch out on. lols. still good though!
oh wait, track 4 'cms sequence' is 1:06 minutes of computer game music. like alex kidd for the thrill jockey set.
McEntiiiiiiiiiire!
sam's face is an antiquated artform.
dear sea & cake,
you know that new record of yours? well, you know that spazzy last track that only goes for 65 seconds and probably took you 15 minutes to make? it's my favourite on the record. more of that next time, thanks.
anok
is it any good anok? the new album i mean...
shrug
and sea snake
recent interview up now on the Cyclic Defrost site.
