Avalanches news

k2  said about 5 years ago  or at  1:21PM on Friday, July 7 2006 in music

from modular:

In other news, we have to apologise to all those hearts we broke last week when we joked that we'd rejected The Avalanches' second album because it sounded rushed and that we're sending them back into the studio. It caused much distress to expectant fans and we didn't realize it would be picked up all over the place as a feature news story, basically the whole thing got a tad out of hand (although North Koreas response did seem a little extreme). We gently rib the guys like this on a monthly basis to hurry them along but of course they'll hand the record in when they're good and ready, and to be honest if they handed in a tape of fart samples we'd put it out no questions asked. Anyways word is its not far off and according to those collaborators who've heard bits and bobs its sounding like everything we dared not hope for, and so much more. They've made the record of their lives basically. In the mean time prepare your self with a hot cup of valium for the sleepy, creepy wonkiness that is their remix of Franz Ferdinand's 'Fade Together' available 17th July on the single 'Eleanor Put Your Boots On'.

yay!

  • Listen to your fart
  • Fart of gold
  • Kickstart my Fart
  • Stop dragging my fart around

Rumour is problem seems to be sample clearance. Again.

Mike Patton was just on UK MTV2 saying that they will be collaborating with him on the second Peeping Tom album...

what is it, 6 years since the last one?

scallywag  said about 5 years ago:

i doubt anyone could release an album that would have a hope of matching up to the expectations placed on this one

Our favorite Australians, The Avalanches, are gearing up towards the release of their new album. In the meantime, they’re dropping some goodies such as this Wham vs. Digitalism track and their edit of the Carl Craig remix of their own track “A different feeling”.

poprocks96  said about 5 years ago:

i overheard a guy on the tram saying that dexter had a massive falling out (MFO) with all of the avalanches. is this true ?

MrsGideon  said about 5 years ago:

He's not with them any more. Doing his own thing. I don't know if it was a 'Massive Falling Out', though. I think he just wanted to get on with it and do his own thing.

shunt  said about 5 years ago:

more new stuff (at least i think it is)

this time a teaser of the new record

in the gmail for those who give a shit

temporarybenbutler  said about 5 years ago:

in the gmail for those who give a shit

I wonder how the album will go? I'm sure there are still a few fans out there from back in the day who give a shit, but is there any kind of mass audience?

hiponion  said about 5 years ago:

Pitchfork will dribble shit all over it like they did the last one, and the UK went absolutely berserk for the last one, I think they'll sell a lot of records

shunt  said about 5 years ago:

oh, hah, i just phrased it like that cause i'm in a shit of a mood

i reckon it'll still do pretty well despite the long break (presuming it's not a total turkey of a record). people love australian electro / electronic / trash at the moment. if the van she can make a name for themselves o/s, i don't think the avalanches have anything to worry about

Apparently it's the International version of the album though, not the original Australian one.
Still - the release date just happens to be my birthday :)

Also talk of a cd version with a second disc of remixes. oh and in other Avalanches news:

Following the whirlwind that resulted from last year's XXX, Detroit rapper Danny Brown says he's ''just in the early stages'' of making new material. ''I study material before I start writing'', he said when we spoke at SXSW last week.. ''So I've just been studying shit.'' But Brown confirmed an exciting collaboration: he will indeed appear on the long-anticipated album from sample collagists the Avalanches.
''I did a new song on the album. It's called 'Frank Sinatra','' he said. ''They [the Avalanches] contacted my manager. I knew of them, but I can't say I was that deep into their music. But I went back and studied it, and it's just amazing. I am ecstatic about that shit.'' The song, he explained, consists of not just a single verse but him rapping over an entire track of looped samples by the Avalanches. The collaboration was conducted entirely through email.
This seems to be the approach the Avalanches are going for on the new album-- if you recall, they went through the same process with Royal Trux/RTX/Black Bananas frontwoman Jennifer Herrema on a song called ''The Stepkids''. There's no official word yet on when the album will actually appear, but we're keeping our ears peeled for more left-of-center collaborations. (Ariel Pink also appears on the album.)

Danny Brown? Fuck. That is peculiar.

whatwhat  said about 1 month ago:

it's the International version of the album though, not the original Australian one

what's the difference?

k2  said about 1 month ago:

what's the difference?

Different samples used. It's what most of us heard first, so the ''international'' version always sounded inferior to me anyway.

steveholt  said about 1 month ago:

So the Modular CD release of this is different to this vinyl re-issue?

Kit  said about 1 month ago:

Modular first pressing (10,000 copies IIRC). If it has a slightly more matte cover and Tonight May Have To Last Me All My Life on the tracklisting, it's the original.

whatwhat  said about 1 month ago:

so what is it listed as on the international version?

k2  said about 1 month ago:

Just Tonight

k2  said about 1 month ago:

Bit more info on the previously posted mix has surfaced. These are both NEW MIXES btw.

''Sleepy Bedtime Mix For Young Ones by Henry Chinaski'' (Robbie Chater)

''Miracle Device by Lord Fitness'' (Darren Seltman)

Great stuff on that Pinchy and Friends page.

happycow  said about 1 month ago:

I downloaded but can't listen to at the moment. Are they everything you'd want them to be K2? Is it good news? Do they whet your appetite?

k2  said about 1 month ago:

The mixes are great - but just that. Regardless, always great to see stuff being put out there. Any activity is good!

losgauchos  said 17 days ago:

Since the Avalanches live show was essentially based on the Beastie Boys one and ''Since I Left You'' was a logical extension of Paul's Boutique they should put their differences aside and reform for a few shows to help ease our collective pain. It would be an honour to a fallen comrade and it would give us one last chance to see the Avalanches doing what they did best.

Goal attack  said 17 days ago:

Mixes are indeed very nice
