good times.
It's a good city for bike riding. Nice and flat.
canals, lots of bikes, vondel park
and yes, anne frank's house was too powerful to even talk about really
I love *love* LOVE Amsterdam. The bikes, the vespas, the cafe's, the antique stores, the markets, the art galleries, the canals, the streets, the... er.... vibe.
It's a very warming kind of place.
my tyre got a puncture. ruined that experience, but led to a fun night out
I actually missed seeing Anne Frank's house. I don't know how I'd feel about going anyway.
i love amsterdam for the whores
yes, it reminded me of a euro melbs in a few ways...
the trams, a certain quietness...
Satan's Gold beer.
I nearly got flattened by one of those trams, you think I'd be used to them.
i first saw amsterdam whores when i was about 11. my dad popped into a coffee shop for a "coffee" and i wandered out onto the street and around the corner smack bang into a row of ladies writhing in windows.
it was a formative experience.
i love amsterdam for the whores
if you want to get to know a city first go and see its whores.
someone said that once.
personally i loved the honour bike system and the dubbelvla (two flavours of custard in a carton)
I love love love amsterdam.
Pretty by day, pretty seedy by night.
I remember taking drugs and then crying (i mean balling my eyes out) because our bikes looked lonely.
ahhhhh good times

I love it for the drugs.
Any more tips for places to stay? Tried the above but they're unavailable for the time I'll be there. Bummer.
The Winston has some pretty cool rooms decorated by contemporary artists.
Pics here...
Thanks silvertone.
It was unavailable also. Double bugger. Looks cool though.
bugger / bummer. this is worse than househunting.
Anyone live or have friends living in Amsterdam that wouldn't mind a house guest for 2 nights come early December? I'll supply Chinese cigarettes. PM me.
Any tips for things you absolutely MUST do/see in Amsterdam and Utrecht??
Utrecht - centraal museum, Dick Bruna Huis and the Rietveld Schröderhuis. All run by the museum from memory. Then da capo records if you like record shopping.
Despite going to the Netherlands three or four times I've never spent more than an afternoon in Amsterdam.
i didn't like amsterdam at all. i was supposed to stay for a weekend (i was coming from rotterdam) and left after one afternoon.
i would suggest giving the Rijksmuseum a miss if you want to maximise your time. you'll spend an age waiting in a line, pay an arm and a leg to get in, and likely be annoyed by crowds and bored by the exhibits for the most part. i was, and i REALLY like going to museums.
i've had the best times in amsterdam sitting in the park drinking warm cans of heineken, not smoking any weed, not going to any museums. sometimes browsing nice bookstores. usually eating pancakes.
i would go with rawr's recommendation. stay away from the city ''centre'' if you can. so many gross bucks nights nights/days/weeks/months going on there.
actually i do quite like this museum
Thanks! I've actually got Centraal Museum & Dick Bruna Huis on the list of things to do. In Amsterdam I planned to go to the Anne Frank House and Van Gogh Museum. Not around for very long. Will most definitely be eating pancakes and sitting in parks, maybe with a beer.
go to Greenwoods cafe, it is delicious.
All I wanted to do in Amsterdam was sitting and drink coffee and read my book and have snow fights. It would be nice to get stoned in the park but it was winter while I was there, so not really ideal. Also, all the 'coffee shops' to go get stoned at are awful and serious which completely took the fun out of it for me as a completely casual stoner. There isn;t really much esle to do there. look at the crooked buildings?
I did this but get stoned first and had a better time that rawr
if you want to get stoned, go to Rotterdam. or somewhere that isn't amsterdam.
Seriously take a tour of Rietveld Schröderhuis should you have any interest in architecture. It's the best!
That actually does look really interesting!
