Something For Kate

McGauz  said about 2 years ago  or at  3:30PM on Thursday, July 6 2006.

I went off this band awhile ago, mainly cos of the last album.. but the new album Desert Lights is rather fucking good! Paul Dempsey sings like a mofo. And it's got some more indie sounding RIFFS again, less country twang...

i like it. brings back memories from seeing them live so many times around the time of Beautiful Sharks and Elsewhere For 8 Minutes.

I bought the new one the other day, but haven't had time to listen to it properly. I like most of what I've heard so far tho.

Am predicting a fair amount of SFK hostility here tho.

Manhattan  said about 2 years ago:

They were good before they went depressing and melancholy and completely boring. Take your word for it, though.

triptolemus  said about 2 years ago:

I LOVED them live when I first saw them....for about 10 minutes, then they started to drag.

he sure does.

not in the good way.

yeah thought as much.. but eh.. what else am I gonna do? post in a thread I have no interest in? hehe

I've only given the new album one listen.. but that impressed me. Further listens will tell a different tale perhaps. But from the start my ears pricked up and I was like "not baaddddd. not bad at all" etc

triptolemus  said about 2 years ago:

No hostility from me, I really like them. I just can't listen to too much of them at once.

McGauz  said about 2 years ago:

fave song probably has to be Pinstripe.. his lyrics used to have a profound effect on me

pete  said about 2 years ago:

McGauz, soon you'll see the light and be listening to The Veronicas like the rest of us

McGauz  said about 2 years ago:

yes colonel.. I'd listen to them moan.. that's about all.

pete  said about 2 years ago:

fair call

gunshot_glitter  said about 2 years ago:

I miss the old Fugazi loving paul that used to champers with beer :(

fave SFK song? Coloured Chalk from the Electricity EP

barbedwirestar  said about 2 years ago:

Fucking amazing new album, thank god they ditched the bullshit that was echolalia and official fiction - all clean and polished orchestrated crap. Desert Lights revisits the raw production values of the elsewhere days, which most fans prefer i think. Transparanoia is just brilliant, as is california with the angular guitar opening. Can't get enough of this new one, Paul's voice is sounding great.

Best sfk song - I can't go past Deja Vu, also mental note - the bside to hallways. and back to you is brilliant.

Benji  said about 2 years ago:

I love/hate relationship with this band. Like Augie March, sometimes I want to march right up to that stage and make them a nice cup of cheer-the-fuck-up.

Not dis'ing, like tripto I can take them in small doses, but I'll definitely check out the new album.

I love Elsewhere For 8 Minutes and they were my fav oz band until people started attending their shows and they started taking off, they lost me from B.Sharks onwards.

Bring back Toby Ralph!

kuroneko  said about 2 years ago:

I never liked them, was never a fan, but the new single is rather good.

looch  said about 2 years ago:

beautiful sharks is one of my fav albums ever...... shite from then on. Maybe I will give this a chance

Benji  said about 2 years ago:

Yeah toby was ace, and I preferred his vox (he kinda reminded me of a bare-foot Sideshow bob.)

al  said about 2 years ago:

bring back sandpit too =P

i dont much like the single.. sounds a bit over-done for the song.. but i'll make a point to check the record out sometime..

i lost them too after beautiful sharks but i still have a soft spot..

My Something For Kate 1994 demo tape just sold on ebay for $255.00!

Good thing I just kept it in a box and never listened to it, cause it was still in perfect nick.

barbedwirestar  said about 4 months ago:

I have pretty much all the singles in CD format up to and including all the Official Fiction singles. Does anyone think I could get some sweet money for the early singles considering they're CD format, not 7''? And secondly, should I part with them after spending so much money and time and effort collecting them myself a few years ago??

monkeyman  said about 4 months ago:

Got no idea what they go for really.

I am stunned the demo sold for as much as it did, but I guess it's probably the rarest item.

annehelena  said about 4 months ago:

I'd like them if it weren't for that one shit song.

You know, the one they always play over and over?

astralwerkor  said about 4 months ago:

'k.

moo-core  said about 4 months ago:

They've got a fair few shit songs these days. I'd disagree if it was 1999 ;)

whale  said about 4 months ago:

all the early singles seem to sell for a fair amount.

goingblank  said about 4 months ago:

Have Steveholt, do you still need the Dean Martin single? Oh, if anyone wants any of their old singles, I have most of them (CDs and 7''s).

goingblank  said about 4 months ago:

*Hey Steveholt.

steveholt  said about 4 months ago:

Thanks goingblank but recently picked one up for the princely sum of $20. All I need now is a copy of Intermission and the vinyl version of Beautiful Sharks and my collection will be complete.

No way I would pay $250 for a demo tape though..... some people have way to much money to throw around. Having said that good luck to you monkeyman.

goingblank  said about 4 months ago:

The bottom of the SFK collectables market sure has dropped out, that's for sure. Did Beautiful Sharks come out on vinyl - I didn't know that.

steveholt  said about 4 months ago:

Yup. And if anyone has a copy of it they want to off-load I would be more than happy to take it off your hands.

adamdmills  said about 4 months ago:

hey goingblank,

do you still have the astronaut?

-adm.

goingblank  said about 4 months ago:

I believe so - plastic or wax? Actually, I don't think it came out on vinyl.

adamdmills  said about 4 months ago:

i don't believe it came out on vinyl either. so, plastic.

Orange Julius  said about 4 months ago:

filterfeed  said about 4 months ago:

i sold a copy of the whatever you want 7'' for $70 a few years ago. that is all.

steveholt  said about 1 month ago:
