No threads about this great New York band! for shame!
I like them for the same reason I like Guided By Voices -- they are old men who couldn't give a fuck about posture and haircuts, who play rock and roll 'cause they ain't good at nuffin' else, who drink more beer than yer dad on grand final day, and who quote bukowski and kerouac without any sense of po-mo irony.
more bands like this, please.

Hi JJ.
Don't Guided By Voices have a place in the Guiness Book of Records for being heaviest-on-stage-piss-drinkers.
hey jo-seeeee. there's jo-jeeeeeee!!
Hi, six-six-six.
Why am I still here again?
the singer reminded me a shitload of the guy with the glasses from whose line is it anyway when i saw them.
exactly!
they are fat and ugly and old and wear glasses and sing like bruce springsteen! what's not to like?
Why am I still here again?
because you're the king. I like The Hold Steady.
Answer my fucken question!
what question? I didn't see a mark.
Why am I still here again?
--
when you find out, let me know. that's a bitch of a question.
to keep the bastards honest?
hey, there's jo-seeeee....
i can't stand them, they sound like blink 182 crossed with bob seger. it's fucking annoying
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there was a thread started a while ago and everyone thought they were shit.
they are fat and ugly and old and wear glasses and sing like bruce springsteen! what's not to like?
It's for these very reasons that everybody loves you too, jones.
you sound like Blink 182!
so does your face
I was waiting for that HitTheCity!
you did leave yourself pretty wide open for it.
I always leave myself wide open.
so nobody likes this band? why am I not surprised?
anyway, that's my cameo for the week. see you all at the Witch Hats warehouse gig this weekend.

Anyone aware of onstage times for Friday?
Ahem. Duly noted.
HS apparently starting at 9, according to HiFi phone line, although they're notorious for getting you in early to make you chugg that Toohey's junk.
Gun Street Girls were pretty medicore
They need the twin guitar attack of Satchell!
Anyone looking to get rid of a couple of tickets for tonight?
9pm? Shit!
Just decided fuck the GP hangover and want to hit this up big time. UGH!
OK. g-m and CB, I'll be wearing the Jackpot Records tee - see you for fun times at GP tomorrow!!
Done. I'll be wearing the jeans, shirt and singlet that come out of my bag first....whatever the fuck that ends up being. Also beard long hair yeah.
Fuckin' great. That is all.
I sweated it out tonight.
Great show.
no GP chat joy!
As for the GP show, they needed to start it with a positive jam. Man...
i looked for you guys, but up front turned into a big mosh pit. and from the back the new THS shirts are the same color as the GP volunteer shirts...
they needed Positive Jam and Chillout Tent. i think i even heard somebody talk about buying mushrooms. and no 'SO MUCH JOY' ending?
still, both Golden Plains and HiFi were AMAZING. the HiFi show especially restored my faith in the Hold Steady. fans were so, so awesome and everyone had an amaizng time
it was my first time traveling to see a band, and it was worth it.
also, this happened:
Is that Mo and Frankie Teardrop?
i was so starstruck that i forgot i had my good camera in my bag. and an MX with an article about Craig's high school mascot being punched out by a math teacher. but i gave it to the other guys from the band
sigh
i really am a cultish dork, aren't i?
It was madness up there!!
and...

HA!
nah, Mo would have bought the skull shirt at Gaslight
loved them at Golden Plains, but would have liked some more older songs. Not a big fan of the last two albums.
APPRECIATIVE POST.
''loved them at Golden Plains, but would have liked some more older songs. Not a big fan of the last two albums''
i think they do that because the newer stuff works better live, especially in a festival. the other songs have more of the intricate narrative stuff
i'm surprised they've only been playing 3 songs off the new album on this tour: Hurricane J, Rock Problems, and Weekenders. would have liked to hear We Can Get Together or The Smidge
Been listening to The Hold Steady all day in the office...all afternoon...all evening...and it turns out the night has just become cold, dark and weird, and it's all strangely appropriate. I fucking love that band.
