dear small independent punk/indie bands,
we know you guys are pretty cool and influenced by the original diy bands. we know that a 7 inch sounds better and is cool and the whole package suits your style better. but you know in the 21st century, not everyone has a record player. and your primary audience are students and young people, who generally dont have a lot of money to spend on a record player + amp + speakers. everyone has a cd player; why not get the music out to the most people possible? itll save you cash as well.
your sincerely
moses
now what about sucking 7 inches?
i like 7 inch vinyl. i buy them regularly.
i love records but i don't like 7 inch's,as soon as you put it on you have to get up to flip it.
i'm more likely to buy a 7" by a band i'm only semi familiar with than a CD.
I'm definitely going to buy a band that I like's 7', but not so much their CD.
what about cassettes?
NUP
ps. an old record player costs like 20 bucks
hey moses did you get my cd yet?
record player + speakers + amp
i have to buy all this stuff just so i can listen to some songs that a band refuses to release onto a cd.
I know some labels have started offering high-quality downloads of a record when you buy it on wax, which is an awesome idea. That way you get the best of both worlds - the durability of vinyl and the convenience of MP3s.
oh yeah i got it on monday i forgot to message you
its awesome, ive listened to it a bunch of times
ah great, juts making sure it got there, i'm glad you like it.
if you don't already have speakers you should be thankful to bands for prompting you to get some
what, do you listen to music through tinny inbuilt PC speakers??
Dear bands,
Just put your songs up for free download as high quality non-DRM mp3s. It's better for the environment. Those vinyl records are made from oil that we are fighting a war over. Those pretty sleeves are made from the pulp of old growth forests. Those trucks that distribute your product are adding to the pollution that causes global warming.
no ive got one of those tape/radio/cd player/speakers in a little box thing. ive also got a discman.
the record players are cheap and if you shop right sop are the speakers, i got a great set up for like 40 dollars and they have lasted me for 5 good years so far.
two huge speakers and a record player that i can hook my cd player up to and get much better sound, as for seven inches, depends who the band is, if it were tom waits or benjamin smoke or alps or patinka cha cha then yeah, but for anyone less really, i don't think so. i think 8it comes down to what bands you hold close.
question: can you just plug a record player straight into speakers? or do you need some sort of amp to boost the signal.

You need an amp and sometimes a pre-amp too.
I love finding old ones but I never buy new ones.

shaun sucks, stop releasing him! (near a keyboard)
fnar fnar!
go eat your own face anon!
i've been obsessively collecting 7 inches lately, yeah it can get a bit annoying having to flip them over all the time, but they're heaps of fun to dj with and just...so damn cute.
Kids of Zoo 45 is due out in December. I'll give you a free one Moses
nope.
best format.
have way more 7 inches than any other format.
gonna get me that smiths 7'' boxset, too. :D
When people go out and buy dozens of 7 inches on the cheap, do they actually listen to them all? Or are 7 inches more appealing to collectors?
Me too, dj. I reckon yours probably have a bit more ''cred'' than mine, though.
Shit yeah, I listen to 'em all. I only buy records to listen to them.
i love your 7'' marcus
shaun: With me the answer is no. I bought about 30 old classic rock 7inches recently for 25c each. I reckon i listened to about 3 of 'em. However if I get a local band’s 45 I’ll play it to death
30???
I wonder if you got anything I don't have...
perhaps. if you don't take into account the betty boo/abba/tom jones//bee gees/vangelis 7s I have tucked towards the back.
Modi they were from your/Crak's joint. Remember?
Ahem. What's wrong with that?
When you have Snap!/Black Box/Glenn Campbell/Chicago/Village People/Phil Collins....
yeah, hetero, that's why I wondered if you got anything good that i missed.
I buy em all of the time. Probably got about 1500, and dig out records I haven't heard for a while regularly. Don't be such mongs.
IIf I had time, I would listen to ‘em. But all I’m saying is that at 25c a pop for a song you’ve heard a million times… I’d rather devote my energy to a new band etc
Hey Modi, I got some good shit yeah. Like a few Stones 45's, some Otis and Aretha Franklin etc
I UNDERSTAND.
Actually everything I like rules but I put the power pop/glam and new wave at the back, no one else understands they rule.
I understand, Batman.
I UNDERSTAND.
