The 'Band Splitting Up' Thread

HEB  said about 5 years ago  or at  6:41PM on Thursday, February 1 2007 in music

Rather than a new thread for every band split, this is a multi-purpose one to be ignored.

So far in 2007, the following bands have called it a day:
* Pretty Girls Make Graves

  • The Beautiful South (after 20-odd years)

Feel free to add your own

So many bands are gonna split up here without even knowing. Maybe we should start a bands who SHOULD split up thread (or have we done that?)

shortrockus  said about 5 years ago:

there's too many bands reforming than splitting up so far this year.

The stones should split up, that way in thirty years time they'll REALLY clean up.

Seymour  said about 5 years ago:

yeah.. coachella's got a lot to answer for... although so has this

williammiller  said about 5 years ago:

Bands splitting up is up there with putting photos of the studio in your album. No one gives a shit.

I love the studio pic in Let Love In - "Don't touch ANYTHING!"

International Karate

Monday, 19 October, 2009

11 years.
3 albums.
4 interstate trips.
100+ shows (easily).

International Karate are finished.

The band has collectively decided now is an appropriate time to pull the pin. Some of you may have noticed that recently our activity has been minimal at best. This is largely due to the pressures of adulthood and suchlike. Also after eleven years of playing with the same guys the thrill is gone. While we all agree our new songs are really good the desire to put the time into the band is absent.

There will be no final show. It's already happened.

Callan: continues rocking it in Slight of Build and is pursuing on his lifelong dream of becoming the worlds #1 authority on ancient Hittite animal husbandry techniques.
Poly: might still be hitting it hard in Drawing Arcs and is also maintaining his lucrative side-job as a Jean-Claude Van Damme impersonator.
Aaron: has some loose plans to keep on rocking and is still working on his ''1001 hairstyles you must have before you die'' coffee table book.
Mark: will reappear in Neon Druid and continues to labour on his full size icy-pole stick replicas of the Bronzi Di Riace.

Many of you have been great to us over the years and we sincerely thank you for your help, encouragement and kindness.

Very best,
IK

Mammal. Oh noes!

Ahem.

My band played it's last ever gig with mammal. Needless to say the world's a better place without them.

shaun  said about 2 years ago:

I think we may be stuck in a slightly mediocre place at the moment so I’m not sure I can call on anyone that’s really doing it for me. I don’t know anyone who’s mixing danger with craft AND good music. I want the dangerous elements of punk rock with great music and an awesome stage performance. The last one I really loved was Iggy.

dudewolf  said about 2 years ago:

thats some good news right there!

monkeyman  said about 2 years ago:

Good news, yes. But they will still be making music with other people....

It says there Ez Ox has a project with Forrester Savell - the man responsible for producing music which is every bit as auto-tuned, beat-doctored and compressed as the latest Britney Spears record.

It's not rock music, but some form of basterdized soul-less mutant with heavy guitar, and it's all over the nations airwaves, festivals and larger venues.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

tvforcats  said about 2 years ago:

I heard rumours Cog and Butterfly effect are close to breaking up also
faints from sheer excitement

Digital  said about 2 years ago:

Maybe they'll all join a 15 member supergroup.

Easy bomb target. Just sayin.

timewaster  said about 2 years ago:

Why would Mammal break up? They have been doing well.

Cog, Butterfly Effect and Mammal should be shipped to some forsaken island in the middle of the Pacific, where they can focus on growing disgusting facial hair and wearing singlets.

Apparently The Rakes broke up too?

And how long until Dougy Mandagi appears on a Jay-Z record, grows a beard and leaves Temper Trap for the inevitable solo career?

tvforcats  said about 2 years ago:

Horsell Common have called it quits, jeez its been a good year for break ups,

tvforcats  said about 2 years ago:

Hot lies also I just read
