Buck 65 tour

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago  or at  7:58PM on Tuesday, July 4 2006 in music news

just realised this ol' thread hadn't migrated over yet.

Buck 65

Canadian hip-hop artist, MC and turntablist extraordinaire Buck 65 is heading to Australia in support of his latest release, Secret House Against The World (Warner Music). The brainchild and alter ego of Richard Terfry, Buck 65 has garnered critical acclaim (including praise from Radiohead and Vincent Gallo) around the world for his extraordinary blend of country-flavoured beats and Tom Waits-styled vocals.

Originally signed to the influential Anticon label, Buck 65 is often credited for kickstarting the avant-garde underground hip-hop movement in the late 90's. Not content with his success as a solo artist, Buck 65 recently joined forces with a number of full-time musicians as well as uber-producers Tortoise, D-Styles, Gonzales and PJ Harvey's long-time collaborator, Head, to produce genre-bending music that defies categorisation.

Main support comes from Sydney act, The Bird , who bring their unique take on electronic dance to the table. Festival favourites from Glastonbury to WOMAD, The Bird have been wowing crowds with their intoxicating live interpretations of drum'n'bass, breakbeats, dub and hip-hop for over ten years. Throw in a few sounds from the Asian underground, and The Bird will not disappoint [All shows except The Great Northern].

Support also arrives in the form of Curse ov Dialect. Dubbed the 'multicultural Public Enemy', Curse ov Dialect draws on the Maltese, Macedonian, Indian, Maori, and Pakistani backgrounds of its members to produce political hip-hop at its most enthralling. Skillfully balancing melodic samples and classic drums with world class turntablism, it's easy to see why they were the first Australian hip-hop act ever to be signed and released in the US [All shows except @Newtown].

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

Sydney peeps, how was it?

Anyone else here, besides nony, going tonight?

knomadix  said about 5 years ago:

I wish.

I'm sure it will be sweet as.

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

I'm still not convinced about the new stuff. No Sydney reports?

CaptainLeSnak  said about 5 years ago:

It was ok - his new stuff was great, it's almost a throwback to his older songs, they're kind of silly, funny and awesome though.

his stories were the best part of the show! the songs from the last two albums did not go down well live. his fiancee is sweet, but can't sing to well. to quote openroad last night - "she should be seen, but not heard!"

try your hardest to miss the bird!! AWFUL.

CaptainLeSnak  said about 5 years ago:

oh, when i say new stuff - i mean brand new songs he plans to release in the next year. this one song "spread 'em" was the highlight of the evening.

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

wife, snakky, wife :)

anonymous  said about 5 years ago:

who was the other support up there?

CaptainLeSnak  said about 5 years ago:

unkle ho, who was decent enough.

the bird played for over an hour and SUCKED.

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

does he play that devils eyes song?

i heard it the other night and was shocked that it was buck.

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

that's his new single, isn't it?

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

yeah

Goodbye_beret!  said about 5 years ago:

lesnak- What are The Bird like? (apart from bad, obviously)

CaptainLeSnak  said about 5 years ago:

yeah he played that and it didn't sound too good.

anonymous  said about 5 years ago:

hmm, wanna see curse though, might have to run out and back in if its that bad.

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

nony, pretty sure the POW won't allow passouts before 11pm or something.

I thought it was The Bird and then CovD?

woop woop woop! it's tonight, sydney heads! i'm there.

wax+wire  said about 4 years ago:

he played a song at GOMA that was brilliant. it was beatless and the lyrics were about two girls, in an old blues/country fashion, and then he did some exceptional turntable scratching.

anyone know the song?

tinyman  said about 3 years ago:

i was listening to dj signify's sleep no more again the other day, which had him as guest vocalist.

tinyman  said about 2 years ago:

''Bike For Three! is the well-lucked and mysterious cross-continental duo of Canadian indie-rap legend Richard Terfry (Buck 65) and budding Belgian electronicist Joëlle Phuong Minh Lê (Greetings From Tuskan).''

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

genius show.

if yer in syd/bris, go go go!

kuroneko  said about 1 year ago:

Agreed. Great show, enjoyed it much more than last tour.
Despite the jetlag, looked like he was having a lot more fun. The reworking of 'Roses and Bluejays' and the '463' medley were genius. Won't give too much away but well worth going.
Hello to nony and soula!
