the zookeeper's boy has been on the radio a lot.

his voice takes some getting used to. cool album though. bad artwork, but cool album.

McGauz  said about 2 years ago:

ha yeah.. cheesy artwork... yeah, I liked the music a lot before I started liking the voice.. but the last few listens has been fine.. think I'm used to it already. Which is good.

I got it quite a while back but never listened to it. I'll give it a go if it's that good.

McGauz  said about 2 years ago:

the opening couple of tracks (that are all joined together) are worth it alone..

McGauz  said about 2 years ago:

Goodbye_beret!  said about 2 years ago:

The "like a cross between Sigur Ros and Meshuggah!" has got me very intriuged.

McGauz  said about 2 years ago:

hehe.. just nicey nice melodic vocals with lots of harmonies over math-esque rock.. from the first song I was sold.

Goodbye_beret!  said about 2 years ago:

you need to give Glass Handed Kites some more listens nicko... it grows on you lots. It is quite different to Frengers though. Frengers is kind of more ''pop''. Glass Handed Kites is a little darker, almost industrial sounding in parts.. but it lightens a lot towards the end of the album.

I actually think it gets a bit long, for an album.. if they lost 1-2 of the last tracks you wouldn't really notice I reckon.

They do have those moments, on both albums, where they get really mellow.. and kinda boring.. don't really like the tracks on Frengers with the female vocals

nicko_mcbrain  said about 10 months ago:

??

Frengers sounds WAY heavier to me, even while being more melodic. the outro of Comforting Sounds is one of the best buildup/crescendoes i've ever heard. pisses on most post-rock, all while having a cool, totally singable melody.

McGauz  said about 10 months ago:

true... (still stand by my perhaps lazy ''pop'' comment.) Melodic, yes. Not that any of their shit is without melody.

156 rocks.

it's more straight forward though. Glass Handed Kites sounds like they tried to be a tad more ''mathy''. This could likely be choice of producer for the album....??

thelasttoknow  said about 10 months ago:

I got into Mew through ''Kites'', was blown away. Love it to pieces ... TO PIECES! Then went and d/l ''Frengers'', one listen, total ''meh'' response, didn't bother with it again. Hope the new album is a step forward, not back.

In other Mew talk, why the fudge is that Live In Copenhagen DVD so damn expensive? 24 euros through their webstore?! That's like $40, and that doesn't include postage! Still, I want it.

nicko_mcbrain  said about 10 months ago:

denmark's cost of living is high?

also, to us they are some obscure band, in denmark their profile is about on par with U2.

pfft, they're not KENT. now that's on a par with u2. in denmark, at any rate.

Urquhart Bluff  said about 5 months ago:

I want to see them live. NOW!

Earl Brutus  said about 5 months ago:

yeah what he said^

paraphernalia74  said about 5 months ago:

Yeah what he said too^

nicko_mcbrain  said about 5 months ago:

count me in.

even if they played all the shite from Glass, i'd go just for She Came Home, Tsin Tsi, She Spider, Am I Wry and Comforting Sounds.

if you could guarantee me four of those in the set, i'd near kill to go to that show.

McGauz  said about 5 months ago:

pft I'm not picky... I'll see them no matter the setlist.. bring em on!

so what's happening with the new album? any news?

Earl Brutus  said about 5 months ago:

[Mew is set to release a new album, probably sometime this Fall. They've been making video diaries of the recording of the new album, which takes place mostly -as it does here- in Brooklyn. Video #7 was given exclusively to my boys at Prefix who are nice enough to share. Rich Costey, the producer of Mew's upcoming album gives the narration of a would-be CERN report that is constructed mostly of the dual reality of Mew. Homeboy gets a little frightening toward the end though. But this looks sweet. I can't wait to hear what the new stuff sounds like.]

Urquhart Bluff  said about 5 months ago:

I wanna hear 154.

Ohyeah  said about 5 months ago:

count me in as well thanks. i don't care about set list.

McGauz  said about 5 months ago:

I wanna hear 156!

oh wait a minute... I can just dial it up on my iPod right next to me.. :)

Rich Costey.. cool. I can imagine how it's gonna sound already

Urquhart Bluff  said about 5 months ago:

Oh yeah. It's 156. It was in Danish anyway. Oh no it wasn't. Sorry. Don't you just love goodbyes?

McGauz  said about 2 months ago:

is 'A TRIUMPH FOR MAN' the album they released After '...and The Glass Handed Kites'?? And never saw a local release so I only found out about it last week when I found it to download!??

What an incredibly unremarkable album (so far). What happened to these clowns!?

MichaelDudikoff  said about 2 months ago:

Nah, it's their first album.

Nothing tops Frengers.

nicko_mcbrain  said about 2 months ago:

^^^^ yep.

McGauz  said about 2 months ago:

ah yep... just wiki'd them... I had the last two albums, but been chasing the others for ages. Found a torrent for their entire discography and downloaded, but it had the chronology wrong. But I see on the Wiki page that their old albums were re-released after the success of the last album.

Frengers is awesome, but And The Glass Handed Kites is a major achievement. Only problem with it is it goes too long... they could have cut the last 4 songs off the end and it wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Seems like they've almost finished the new album, with Rich Costey producing again (Frengers). Nice.
