The Gillian Welch Thread

williammiller  said about 1 year ago  or at  5:06AM on Wednesday, January 17 2007.

How did this take so long

A mind blowing, life changing artist. And by artist, I mean "the duo called Gillian Welch", including David Rawlings.

New album please

I also think she's quite the hottie. Girls with guitars. Hott.

oooh my favourite

that concert at the forum was possibly the most beautiful thing ive ever seen, what with the twinkling lights above and all.

hollyc  said about 1 year ago:

I have been trying desperately to find a recording of that song 'Throw me a rope'. I know they've never released it, but surely some evil bootlegger would have a live copy somewhere.

mrsdevere  said about 1 year ago:

I have had many impure thoughts about David Rawlings, he is such a hottie! I did encourage him to strip off when I saw them last (as he was complaining about the heat) but to no avail....

buddychilzelski  said about 1 year ago:

She's amazing. I only started really getting into Gillian Welch around six months ago. So many years wasted.

tihstar  said about 1 year ago:

I had the pleasure of seeing their first show at the Prince when they were out... mind blowing. Two sets of over an hour each and at no point was I not transfixed. I'll always have a great memory of Dave Rawlings performing this great solo on his acoustic at the conclusion of which the crowd went so crazy that they couldn't even finish the song let alone start the next one for a good five minutes. It was really something special. From what I've heard though all the shows on that tour were.

Footmaize  said about 1 year ago:

yes, the forum was something else.

those shows in Melbourne were so amazing

Rusty Keith  said about 1 year ago:

marty brown got me into her when he programmed 'everything is free' during an interview on triple j about 4 years ago. I am forever in his debt.

ando  said about 1 year ago:

I hope they go back to the more duo-y stuff for the next album. Having said that, Miss Ohio is my most sung-at-the-top-of-my-lungs-while-driving song.

I loved how Soul Journey opened up and they pulled away a little. Wrecking Ball may be my favourite song of hers/there's

ah, it's all quality.

scuz  said about 1 year ago:

That Forum gig was so beautiful. I loved David Rawlings' line "this song starts off slow ..... and then it just fizzles right out". I even loved their encore cover of "Long way to the top". I think Gillian played the bagpipes bit on harmonica. DR's 1935 Epiphone pworrhh!!! What a sound.

orange  said about 1 year ago:

"this song starts off slow ..... and then it just fizzles right out".

Doesn't Neil Young say that on the CSNY live album 4 way street?

I am a geek.

scuz  said about 1 year ago:

Ahhhh... maybe that's who he was quoting. I'm annoyed I can't remember which Gillian song it was.

williammiller  said about 1 year ago:

they pulled out Girls Just Want To Have Fun in Sydney.

buddychilzelski  said about 1 year ago:

I've been playing the hell out of her cover of Radiohead's 'Black Star'. So damn good.

littlearch  said about 1 year ago:

i've been listening to hell among the yearlings everyday for about 3 months now

my bff did a lovely cover of miss ohio on saturday

williammiller  said about 1 year ago:

My Morphine just came on the WelchPod. God, what a song. Where is this new album!?!?!?

williammiller  said about 1 year ago:

I really need a new album. This is just silly.

williammiller  said about 1 year ago:

next year it will be FIVE years since the last record. WTF???

Step up Gillian!!

littlearch  said about 1 year ago:

i have just discovered that i actually DO have soul journey, so rediscovering that has been nice. weird how the three most popular songs are the first three on the album

any news on a new album? i've been deleting my emails without reading them

Check out Patty Griffin, she is touring here in November - very similar.

imaginarylion  said about 1 year ago:

Dear Gillian,

More please!

Also, a tour would be nice.

Love, IL.

nedb  said about 11 months ago:

Listening to a Dave Rawlings Machine show from October last year for the first time and its great. Elvis Presley Blues is ace with Dave in lead and Gillian doing backing. And now Throw Me A Rope has started and is kind of blowing my mind... Reminds me of The Palais show, such an amazing night.

New album please. Getting impatient.

juicenewton*  said about 9 months ago:

I think it's time to get into Gillian Welch, I'm guessing Time the Revelator is the best way to start BUT I really want to get her on vinyl- and she hasn't relased any of her stuff on said format !(which I think is just wrong considering her general sound). So I go to buy it on Itunes tonight and it's not available in Australian Itunes!!

She's playing hard to get.

tigers  said about 3 months ago:

yep, this lack of vinyl releases is ridiculous.
my collection feels so incomplete without it!
i want to be listening to gillian on my vinyl player when i'm 70, out on the porch with a whiskey and a shotgun.
i'll die a happy man.

ando  said 36 days ago:

Just realised it's been 5 years since the last album. 5 YEARS!

Who does she think she is, Axl? At least he put out a live album while we were waiting.

CaptainFez  said 36 days ago:

Well, you could go here...

ando  said 36 days ago:

I love you fez.

I've been making do with a 2-disc live thing from97 I found somewhere (can't remember where now).

CaptainFez  said 36 days ago:

Aw, shucks.

I like that recording a lot. Sun Ra namedropping and a crapload of songs! AND it doesn't sound like it's recorded out of someone's front pocket.

Bargain.
