Puppy questions

Pjeony  said about 2 years ago  or at  11:46AM on Tuesday, July 4 2006.

How is the mother supposed to act towards them? She seems to play really rough with 'em. Getting excited and running them over and knocking em everywhere like bowling pins.

Plus she wont let me go near them without going nuts. Jumping at me and standing on them. Does it have anything to do with the fact she's a young mum?

Should I be doing anything?

Don't fuck them, you'll go to jail.

the power of 666  said about 2 years ago:

and I think mummy's a nutcase

cubapubic  said about 2 years ago:

Do you have pitbulls?

Pjeony  said about 2 years ago:

not pitbulls. terrier/shitzu cross.

mummy is a nutcase.

LoadMyRig  said about 2 years ago:

just let her do her thing pjeony.

most first time mothers are nutjobs for a while.

poprocks96  said about 2 years ago:

i would never let you near my puppies.

PaulsGrandfather  said about 2 years ago:

Maybe we (humans) are overly-cautious with puppies because they're "babies". I reckon mums know best.

holyrattlesnakes  said about 2 years ago:

it's pretty natural for the mother to be super protective of them whilst they're little pups pjeony.

littlearch  said about 2 years ago:

how old are they nwo?

de.foxus  said about 2 years ago:

are there photos yet?

i want to see the puppies!!

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

anyone had a labrador before?

i want a puppy.

annehelena  said 37 days ago:

We got Wally the black Labrador when I was about 2, and so was he. He died when I was 15, and so was he. I still fucken miss that dog. I didn't even know life without him until 4 years ago.

Anyway, so yes, I've had one before. Happy to answer questions.

Charles Dumar  said 37 days ago:

I've had a labrachair, but never a labrador.

Charles Dumar  said 37 days ago:

Oooh, I've still got it.

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

i might have heaps of questions soon ah.

i have heard they are excellent dogs. black lab is the one we fell in love with the other day.

oooh, puppy!!

de.foxus  said 37 days ago:

i have friends who do the guide dog puppy raising, and they love it.

Modi  said 37 days ago:

Have you got a job yet, sveltes?

Pets are so expensive, i dunno how anyone can afford them.

annehelena  said 37 days ago:

They are absolutely gorgeous dogs, sveltes. Wally was a part of the family. Gentle, loyal, and always seemed to know how you were feeling. The amount of times he'd sit quietly next to me whilst I was crying as an angsty teen, and just softly place a paw on my knee can't even be numbered.

When I broke my arm at age 7, he guarded me, walking around and around me and barking until my brother got to my parents to call them out.

Charles Dumar  said 37 days ago:

It's not that hard. You just have to remeber to not feed them.

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

i don't think my job status has anything to do with this, but no, i'm taking a well deserved break over december.

i just lost a pet. i have enough money to raise another.

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

anneh - that is awesome. i have an ex who had a lab that was pretty similar. on the lab's deathbed, the ex was sitting there with him and the lab put his paw on his hand and just looked at him like he knew. hardest moment of his life ever. had been with him for his growing up years as well.

do they make good guard dogs? easy to train?

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

of course they are easy to train. they are guide dogs. forget that question.

de.foxus  said 37 days ago:

sometimes it's better to be jobless for a few weeks after getting a pet, they need the company to settle into their new digs and to figure out what's right and wrong.

annehelena  said 37 days ago:

Wally lived outside, so in terms of housetraining I don't know.

Awesome guard dogs.

on the lab's deathbed, the ex was sitting there with him and the lab put his paw on his hand and just looked at him like he knew. hardest moment of his life ever.

My father wouldn't let me go. At the time I was furious but now I understand. Firstly that he wanted to shield me from that, and secondly because Wally was more his dog than anyone else's (he saw Dad as the pack leader), and so it was a pretty hard moment for him without having to deal with me falling to bits.

First time he'd cried since my brother was born. My brother was 18 at the time.

fethehellcat  said 37 days ago:

If I ever get a dog I'm going to call it Jed Bartlet.

That is all I have to contribute to this discussion.

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

yeah, my dad has done all the hard moments with our pets being put down. i've seen him shed a tear only at those moments. he teared up when our bunny got put down last week.

annehelena  said 37 days ago:

It also means that he didn't cry when I was born.

Fucking cunt.

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

awww. perhaps he was being the proud man for his little girl.

annehelena  said 37 days ago:

Haha, I think the shock of the first child was what got to him.

I don't really think of my father as a fucking cunt. He is quite possibly the most important person in my life.

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

didn't think you were serious there somehow.

we saw the cutest ever brand new little black lab puppy the other day waddling along the street with it's owner. it still had that puppy spit smell. the way they run is just plain adorable.

de.foxus  said 37 days ago:

i love puppy sausage dogs. their feets are so cute.

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

puppy

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

argh!!

de.foxus  said 37 days ago:

puppy raising vic

new puppy every 12 months!

it's apparently heartbreaking to give them back, but it's doing a huge service to the community, and they pay for all food, training and vet care.

Modi  said 37 days ago:

I dunno, a dog is a hell of a lot different to a bunny.

Unless you took your bunny for a walk a couple of times a day.

svelteslacks  said 37 days ago:

oh fuck. are you serious! shit, i hadn't even thought of that.

give it a break would you.

it's not a decision being made lightly.

i'm quite aware of how to look after a dog and what their needs are.
