What's up with Bert's son? First he was off his tree on Channel Ten's New Years Eve telecast, pretending to blow John Foreman as part of their duet.
Now he's in Balmain Magistrates Court this Wednesday charged with assaulting and intimidating Brooke Satchwell twice in 2006. Hardcore.
I bet NOVA are glad they've just signed him to a deal to host a radio show for them. Good investment.

In every photo i've seen of him lately, he looks like he's about to have a nervous breakdown. I bet Bert and Patty aren't pleased...
Absolutely nothing new for this douchebag. People are just paying more attention now for some reason.
he's trying to be the next generation of 'hell raising, hard-living, hard-drinking, hard-coking, but award-winning Ozstraylian actor'. being bert's son is just something else to rebel against.
Even when he was just starting out he had an ego the size of a house and treated women like shit. Why should fame have changed him for the better?

Newton charged with assault
By Warren Owens
January 14, 2007 12:00
RISING television star Matthew Newton has been charged with bashing his former girlfriend, actress Brooke Satchwell, in a bitter break-up row.
Newton, the son of show-business legends Bert and Patti Newton, spent 11 hours in custody after his arrest by two police officers, court documents reveal.
He faces four charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and is due to appear in Balmain Local Court on Wednesday. He has pleaded not guilty.
The offences allegedly occurred last year at the Rozelle home the couple shared after Satchwell had ended their five-year relationship, a court heard.
Newton, 29, was initially refused bail by police after his arrest on October 16 because of concern over his "persistent violent offences'', according to court documents.
He had also made "several threats to the victim and her family'' during the incidents, the court heard.
Leichhardt police allege the young entertainer assaulted Satchwell, 26, between 5pm and 1am on September 13, and again between 10.30pm and 11pm on October 6, causing actual bodily harm.
Newton is also charged with intimidating Satchwell at that time, with the intent of causing her physical or mental harm.
Satchwell, a former model and actress who starred in Neighbours, Water Rats and White Collar Blue, broke up with Newton in a split her friends describe as "traumatic''.
Satchwell has since moved back to Melbourne.
"She was filming Dangerous at the time,'' a friend said. "She was forced out of their home, and had to move in with friends.''
Newton was freed by a magistrate at Newtown Local Courton strict conditions, after he spent more than 11 hours in police custody.
Opposing bail, police claimed the allegations had arisen from a domestic violence incident.
Newton was an actor and director "of some repute'', his lawyer told the court.
He "now understands that the relationship is over'' and arrangements about the previously shared property had been made.
Magistrate Suzanne Seagrave allowed Newton bail on the condition that he conducted himself with good behaviour, continued to reside at the Rozelle home, complied with an apprehended violence order (AVO) and neither went anywhere near Satchwell nor contacted her.
Newton has stepped out of his famous father's shadow with TV gigs including a Logie-winning role in Changi and appearances on Thank God You're Here.
He also has a starring role in the pay-TV series Stupid, Stupid Man.
Yesterday, Newton signed a contract with Sydney FM radio station Nova 969.
Newton attracted media attention and drew criticism for his appearance on Channel 10's New Year's Eve broadcast, during which he engaged in a simulated sex act.
Last week, Newton made public his new relationship with Gracie Otto, the daughter of theatre veteran Barry Otto and the sister of actress Miranda Otto.
Lucky Gracie. She'll be next.
The West Australian don't hold back with their headlines:
"Bert's Boy Charged With Bashing Actress"
if gracie's half the bitch her sister is, she'll be fine.
From the story in The West Australian:
Yesterday, Barry Otto said the allegations of domestic violence against the rising TV and radio star threatened to destroy his career.
"Matthew is a great friend and a great person. I don't understand why people are trying to destroy his reputation with this sort of stuff," he said.
"He is suffering a great hurt and this [court case] will simply make things worse."
His partner and Gracie's mother, Sue Hill, said she was not concerned that her 19-year-old daughter was dating Newton, despite the charges.
Newton has taken up residence at the Ottos' Lewisham terrace since leaving the Balmain home he and Satchwell had shared for several years.
"Matthew is the sweetest, nicest person in the world. He would never hurt a flea," she said.
"He would be absolutely devastated about all this becoming public."
"Matthew is a great friend and a great person. I don't understand why people are trying to destroy his reputation with this sort of stuff," he said.
Gee - maybe cause he [allegedly] bashed someone. If it is true, I think he is doing a pretty decent job of destroying his own reputation...
Otto is saying that because Newt is now schtupping his other daughter.
She's hot. He looks like a toad. She must be exactly like her proposed character in 'Dangerous'
Satchwell, a former model????
I don't find Satchwell hot at all.
It's unbelievable - and Matthew Newton needs his head checked for this alleged assault.
i wonder if his dad can laugh this one off.
"I like the boy!"
Gee what a tough little rich brat, he can beat up on his girlfriend. He will get off no doubt
INDUBITABLY
cocaine's a hell of a drug

People with anger management issues combined with mental illness that isn't managed might...
He needs help, and people need to stop enabling his behavior by letting him run around, making excuses for him, creating get out of jail free cards- instead of addressing the issues at hand.
Meh, anyway, Sucks to be him
Statement from Bert:
''We're getting through it. It's been going on for a fair while now, but we're strong people, and we have some good things happening in our lives, too,'' Mr Newton said. ''We're pretty positive people.''
''We would like this to have a happy ending and I'm sure it's still possible there will be a happy ending.''
''We're doing everything we can to try and help that happy ending.''
sounds like that statement was made from a massage parlour
Happy endings always cost more!
Maybe he should have gone to a day spa in Daylesford rather than Miami. Up to now there is no proof he has a mental illness therefore he is just a cunt.
My brother beat him up in year 6 at a school orientation, Newton was the school's golden boy and as a result my brother wasn't allowed to attend the school. Good call Xavier College!
What a privileged little shit, he reminds me of Joffrey from Game of Thrones - tortures and torments people for his own pleasure and continues to get away with it. I hope the Starks chop his head off.
Getting a jizzin' in prison could be his saving grace.
It's not cool being beaten up sting-bono, especially in year six. Sounds like your brother needed to have a consequence. It's sad seeing anyone with the apparent resources to get better fall off a cliff. Come home Matt get better, then tell your story to a current affair nd new idea. All will be forgiven.
But he actually picked the fight with my brother. He's never regretted it. Newton's a fucking turd, meltdown my arse, he needed a smack on the backside as a child.
I have to agree, he's a fuckin idiot - mental problems or not he isn't living in reality and needs to do something about it, he's just being a privileged little shit. at first i thought it was funny that he kept on fuckin up but now it's just really sad, and dangerous to boot. i hope he gets his shit sorted though, it's not good having people breaking down like that...the media don't help matters though.
Privilege means shit right now. The fact he's doing this in the us where he's a nobody probably indicates it's about more than class.
I'd put it down to chasing acting work and getting no call backs then having a tantrum
He doesn't strike me that way, I think being in the industry he would realise that it's tough in that way, plenty of actors, even those who are well known don't get call backs.
Most actors have the maturity to realise these things, I think it runs a bit deeper than that.
It's sad seeing anyone with the apparent resources to get better fall off a cliff.
Oh please. Why should anybody should care more about his situation having a good family and support network, money, connections and resources? There's precisely why there's so little sympathy for him and because he's squandering it.
It would be interesting to know what his thinking patterns were before he throws a fist at them. It seems odd that he is lashing out all the time, he has no real apparent reason to be acting like this.
I'm more sympathetic towards the mad woman in the council flats behind me than I am towards Matthew newton. It's easier to empathise with those more like us. I'm a white guy in his thirties from a middle class background. What I see in the mirror isn't too different from Matthew newton.
I'm more like the mad woman in the council flats lol.
It's called MENTAL ILLNESS. It doesn't conform to reason and give a shit if you're privilleged or not.
This guy is sick, needs to be hospitalized and sorted out.
He'll fucking kill himself if somebody doesn't help him.
In more strife. He gave the cops a fake residential address.
