ok. start with 50,000 fall fans can't be wrong. very cool 2cd best of.
album wise i'd start with 'hex enduction hour' and if you like that go in this order:
perverted by language
this nation's saving grace
bend sinister
the infotainment scam
I try to avoid best of's, but then i get the impression the fall don't necessarily deliver consistently awesome albums all the time? Is there truth in this?
they did deliver consistently brilliant material in the 70's and early 80's.
SLATES!
Grotesque!!!!
yes definately start with hex endunction hour. also check out dragnet, grotesque (after the gramme) pay yer rates!!, marshall suite is a good recentish one also.
but the fall are most definately an album band, i couldnt imagine listening to a fall comp
get albums.
don't get a best of.
hex enduction hour and this nation's saving grace are the two i'd start with and move on from there.
Get the "In Palace Of Swords Reversed" compilation. All the crucial stuff including 'Totally Wired' and 'Wings'.
Do it now!
yessir!
50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong... The Very Best Of The Fall 1978 - 2003 is a good intro as the band went through many stages - it'd give you an idea which period you'd prefer...
Last year's Fall Heads Roll was pretty fab too!
The Real New Fall LP or Country on the Click was really good. I'd also recommend that any rabid fall fan invest in the peel sessions boxset.
This is all before they became After The Fall?
dammit
)
argh! Mark E. Smith rocks!
CAMUS! Perhaps best novel ever?
I was watching The Fall's DVD "Perverted By Language/Live At Leeds '81" last night and remembered how absolutely brilliant that particular line-up of The Fall were. Mark E Smith = funny cunt genius too!
Pity the transfer of Perverted By Language Bis is really poor quality. It looks like it was taken from third or fourth generation videotapes.
Speaking of which, I have about 15hours of almost unwatchable Fall footage. Wanna borrow?

it's a mountainous catalogue
Frenz is as notable as anything they have done
also 10 extra points as it was the first Fall album I did buy many years ago
buy seven copies
I'd grab one off ya. I don't have that one myself.
First album by The Fall I got was Extricate & Seminal Live both crackers...a good introduction to them.
Good call they are both great albums
buy all of them lol
It's not anywhere near as notable as:
Hex
TNSG
Perverted
Grotesque
Dragnet
Slates
And is way less notable than a bunch of their other releases. On a scale of 1 - 100, 1 being the worst thing they ever released and 100 being the best, Frenz sits at about 40 for mine.
This of course is subjective, but no matter which way you look at it, some Fall stuff is more notable and/or better than other Fall stuff. With 30ish albums plus many other releases there's no way it's all at the same level of notableness.
the night of the humerons 45 is pretty rad. anyone else enjoying it?
Sure am...
MES sounds like a mutant out of one of his beloved lovecraft tales
Frenz Experiment is a top Fall album. Frenz is one of the best Fall tracks IMHO.
plus 1
would be nice to hear the vinyl lol
but yeh the link get looked at a lot
they still have a few copies at polyester fitzroy, get on it!
Frenz the song is good. As an album it's got some good tracks but is terribly inconsistent.
I got the Humerons 7'' on RSD but have to retrieve my record player from a mate's place to listen :\ MES doesn't care for download codes.
Carry Bag Man, for instance, is a nothing song.
I'm in love with the carry bag man.
Lets get the band back together maaaan
from fof
According to stalking-machine ''Twitter'', Mark is in the studio right now recording vocals for Mutation - which seems to be a supergroup comprised of (from what I can gather) Ginger from the Wildhearts, Shane Embury from Napalm Death, Jon Poole from the Cardiacs, a metal band from Leeds called Hawk Eyes, and possibly some others.
I just finished reading about this. Sounds promising.
