"pink flag" is a great record.
they're fuckin' brilliant spaceman. especially the three records they made in the 70's.
I like em. Didnt see them though.
Pink Flag is awesome. But Outdoor Miner is such a great pop song
Why? I've been told Pink Flag is 'the one' also, but no 'why'.
i need 'whys' peoples.
Maybe it sounds more "different" from their other ones, if that makes any sense...
Because its really uncomfortable. Really rough Outta tune guitars that sound like bits of wood. Its a really odd sounding record.
i actually think chairs missing is better than pink flag. pink flag is considered a punk classic, short (some very short) punk songs but with intelligent construction and lyrics. chairs missing is a bit more new-wave, keyboards, structured pop songs.
do they have anything in common with gang of four? i hear them mentioned in the same breath, but then the descriptions i hear for wire's music don't seem to have much in common with GO4, except perhas for their punk inspired brevity.
nothing at all GO4. wire may be many things but funky isn't one of them.
Gang of Four are funky? That's an odd interpretation of their sound.
Sort of contemporary with each other, I think, spaceman, rather than anything musically in common.
i find gang of four a little funky
You can pick up Pink Flag, 154 and Chairs Missing in a box set for around the $30 mark.. thats about the best starting point you can have. I really enjoyed 'Send' as well.. many others tended to disagree.
Certainly one of the finest live shows I've ever seen at the Corner.
Maybe I just hate the word funky. It's a shit word for describing stuff, except maybe odors.
I know I am sacrificing my rock nerd cred, but I found 'Pink Flag' rather boring. 'Entertainment!' bollocks all over it.
You never had any rock nerd cred, Beret. Don't sweat it.
Man I'm taking a pounding this week.... I think FSM is telling me to do my thesis.
FUnKy
Isn't there a Talking Heads thread you belong in somewhere Beret
fastC- Remain In Light is a classic! (I don't care if they are the nerd band)
154 is my fave... the hooks are there, you just have to listen...
and GOF are sooo funky.... maybe not as funky as The Pop Group, but still funky.

''The New Adventures of Curve'', 2002. Then a couple of singles, and a best of in 2004.
What is this doing in a Wire thread? :P
i stay where i'm comfortable.

you can get the first 3 LPs on CD in a bundle at JB for $29
I'm sincerely impressed this is one product that's the same price as ten years ago!
...are playing the Offset Festival in August...
Does someone want to buy me a plane ticket?
Such an amazing band..
When I saw them at the Corner the other year.. they come out sparking and arcing and blasted us... It was days until I realised what a great job they had done..
Listening to Pink Flag now... awesome
Yeah, except they played too many old songs!
and the supports fucking sucked.
great gig though!
got no recollection of who supported them whatsoever
New album Object 47 is in the gmails.
It's a good album, reminds me a lot of some of their 80's output. I'm glad that they've done something more 'pop' on this new album rather than pursue the dance-metal sound of Send.
Sorry, but how do I access the gmail account?
I fucking loved Send (although admittedly the Read & Burn tracks they left off were better), and am loving the return to 154 - A Bell Is A Cup... sound of Read & Burn 03, so high hopes for this. Is it available to order yet, or just leaked?
Just leaked I think.
Review of new Wir album
Their first without Bruce Gilbert :(
New Wire album Object 47 now in stores for those that care.
Different to Me should be at least twice as long as it actually is.
Was just reading a review of object 47 in the monthly and reviewer was complaining about the support bands at the corner as well. That's all i've got to add.
Listening to the Colin Newman album a-z. It's really really cool. Spacey and avant-garde while still being accessible. Dudes playing around in a studio.
i likes object.
A-Z is great. Was originally to be the fourth Wire album.
Object 47 is better than first impressions, but still disappointing after R&B03
