poprocks96  said about 3 years ago:

the drones won last year.

i put my $$ on augie march

poprocks96  said about 3 years ago:

or blasko

scissors  said about 3 years ago:

Um... what is it?

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

Meh, it's actually the 2006 prize, of course.

Official Australian Music Prize site here.

scissors  said about 3 years ago:

Oh, right...

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

It could be Augie March's year.

The other strong contenders that stick out to me: Hilltop Hoods.

poprocks96  said about 3 years ago:

i reckon after ten years of slogging it, augie march deserve $25k or however much the prize is.

empra  said about 3 years ago:

Gerling???? That was out last year????

Go Bob! Go Dappled!

I'm going to put my money on The Grates, because my other guesses have been taken...

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

Gerling???? That was out last year????

Yes, and no-one noticed or cared. Presence on the list a bit suss. See also: SFK, True Live.

empra  said about 3 years ago:

At least I knew the SFK album was out... I totally thought 4 was out the year before. Poor Gerling...

poprocks96  said about 3 years ago:

ps - why do they drag the announcement out to two months ?????

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

Which makes it very odd that it's on the list.

Obviously quite a few of the voters a) knew and b) rated it.

Which is very odd.

empra  said about 3 years ago:

slow judges....

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

ps - why do they drag the announcement out to two months ?????

There's a re-judging round in between.

psssh, its not myspace.

anonymous  said about 3 years ago:

not a very long list for a long list, considering the short list is 8...

1/3 chance of making it?

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

Less if you're Gerling.

anonymous  said about 3 years ago:

not a bad list all in all, not totally dominated by "big" artists.

empra  said about 3 years ago:

Which is very odd.

They must have felt sorry for them because Darren still can't get a job, and they were good once upon a time.

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

Does anyone think The Grates a chance? Surely once they get exposed to the wider judgo-sphere, the polarising nature of the act will be enough to rule them out?

They entered last year.

It was 2005

Yep, Veronicas was '05 too

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

They wuz robbed!

I guess that only leaves Steph McIntosh's record as pop fodder left out this year - was a pretty thin year for new Australian dance-pop, really.

Oh, and Young Divas of course.

bergholt  said about 3 years ago:

what about this year's idol kids?

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

Wossisname, the winner, came out too late.

MattuS  said about 3 years ago:

Good luck to Knives Of Neptune.
Does anyone really think Something For Kate need more money though?

whatwhat  said about 3 years ago:

very surprised bbk and the sleepy jackson didn't get nominations.

redlips  said about 3 years ago:

very surprised bbk and the sleepy jackson didn't get nominations

they both entered... just not long listed...

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

Latest BBK is the kind of thing you might think would do well at this - suitably epic, personal vision etc (and great production, for the battle-of-the-bands scorecard factor).

empra  said about 3 years ago:

she's got a lot of time on her hands.

devilwillride  said about 3 years ago:

Is she still cocking the hammer?

spunky_moph  said about 3 years ago:

Can't believe Dan Kelly didn't make the list

williammiller  said about 3 years ago:

has it been pointed out that Bob Evans' album title is wrong. And apart from You Am I, it's the only album on the list I like.

Where was Darren Hanlon's nomination? oh well

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

Poor Darren.

NakedApe  said about 3 years ago:

Yeah they cocked up the album name on the press release but since the good ship M+N and mr Butler brought it to my attention it's been rectified I believe....

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

So, where are the "for your consideration" ads?

We'll know this prize is biting home when they start.
