Of Montreal

hiponion  said about 1 year ago  or at  1:34PM on Thursday, January 4 2007.

My thread on this was deleted as well? This is really getting fucking annoying, having to re-make threads that easily could have been altered to edit out the links, that contained a great discussion on a band/album/whatever.

But yes. "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?", their new one, is absolutely fabulous. All of their previous work has been amazing. One of the most consistently excellent bands around.

Wonky  said about 1 year ago:

This album hasn't really caught me as much as some of their previous ones have. I might have to give it another listen or two.

PaulsGrandfather  said about 1 year ago:

Come disconnect the dots with me, poppet.

Countess  said about 1 year ago:

they certainly are super. and id never heard of them before your other thread and now im totally obsessed with them

hiponion  said about 1 year ago:

It's certainly quite a bit different sounding, Wonky. :)

bergholt  said about 1 year ago:

Tell ya what, just got me copy of this one.

It's fucken awesome. So much pop goodness. And then the epic krautrocker The Past Is a Grotesque Animal right in the middle. Excellent. Makes me happy.

If anyone's interested, and ya fucken should be, use the gmail.

hiponion  said about 1 year ago:

God, 'Grotesque Animal' might just be the best thing they've ever done. And that's saying a LOT.

bergholt  said about 1 year ago:

I haven't heard much of the rest (except Disconnect the Dots) but if it's anywhere near as good, I'm there.

hiponion  said about 1 year ago:

Oh, you are so there. My christ. It's his masterpiece.

blake3030  said about 1 year ago:

overrated band

hiponion  said about 1 year ago:

Do you like any E6 bands blake

blake3030  said about 1 year ago:

NMH of course and a tiny bit of OTC

I have an Elf Power CD i've never listened too.

I've had a brief listen to your fave circ system album and it's ok.

blake3030  said about 1 year ago:

I think Of Montreal are decent, but far from great.

hiponion  said about 1 year ago:

Circ system didn't click for me 'til about the fifth listen. It's such an organic album.

bergholt  said about 1 year ago:

Albums like that don't grow on trees.

hiponion  said about 1 year ago:

Here's the artwork for 'Hissing Fauna':

capo3rdfret  said about 1 year ago:

gave fauna a listen last night

was a bit meh but the second half was spectacular !

drugshakehands  said about 1 year ago:

i do like this new album, i thought i might grow out of it after a couple of listens, but it's still very good. btw, does anyone know if any of the elephant 6 groups ever toured in australia?

percolator  said about 1 year ago:

jeff magnum played in NZ ... think that's the closest 'they've' ventured.

Kristy  said about 1 year ago:

best album of 07!
"i cant just hit her"

drugshakehands  said about 1 year ago:

some bits are quite dark and bitter on the album. it's a strange sort of break up album, but i like that there is always a sense of hope.

it would be nice if they came to australia or if jeff magnum magically appeared at a local pub.

I picked up the new one recently. It's IMHO not as solid as Hissing Fauna; musically, it starts somewhat more weakly. Also, in places it sounds like Barnes has started parodying himself and his trademark sexual neuroses and appropriations of otherness.

Where Hissing Fauna had pathos, Skeletal Lamping is mostly just camp. Having said that, it does have a few good tracks, like Id Engager and Gallery Piece.

astralwerkor  said 37 days ago:

Their, uh, ''live show'', has become even more absurd:

prince  said 37 days ago:

i just got back from NYC and met some people who had just seen these guys play that night. they said it was amazing!

anok  said 37 days ago:

more pics here. fuxn lalz.

PaulsGrandfather  said 37 days ago:

Oh wow...

urchinmink  said 35 days ago:

the new album is pants, but I'd still give my right arm to see OM live.

blake3030  said 35 days ago:

Live show looks laaaaaame.

They should just go to the UK and do Pantomimes.

anorakhighst  said 35 days ago:

Realisation: Kevin Barnes is to gay guys what ''wiggers'' are to black guys.

nyx  said 14 days ago:

Oh but hooray for this band coming out! It's going to be amazing!

hiponion  said 14 days ago:

oh.

fuck.

yes.

THANK YOU GOLDEN PLAINS

asbestos  said 9 days ago:

Golden Plains, awesome. And there's no way I'm missing that sideshow. VERY excited.

drugshakehands  said 8 days ago:

got my tickets, hope they play twice in perth. that's very unlikely, it's always so awkward when a band plays in australia for the first time. their back catalogue is so vast, though i imagine they don't play much of the early stuff.

MelonHCST  said 8 days ago:

Mogwai, Of Montreal and Black Mountain all on the same night in Sydney = Mega Fail Sydney for Of Montreal, Melbourne for Mogwai

bergholt  said 3 days ago:

when are sideshow tickets up?

nyx  said 3 days ago:

I really wish these guys were playing at the Forum in Melbourne instead, such a better venue for them
