I do love good sashimi
Except once it came out a frozen in the middle. I made them take it back.
dolphin steak and whale soup.
mos burger.
my girlfriend is in Japan and I think she eats rice crackers more than anything because of their addictive goodness.
apparently the Japanese are (typically Japanese) and very regimental about their health.
A bunch of friends and I went to the 'Ichiban Teppanyaki' place on Sussex St for NYE dinner. Very nice. Hmm, wouldn't mind some sashimi for dinner tonight...

dont mos burger do a prawn burger with a patty of mashed up prawns?
for good cheap food, Yoshinoya is good for a big franchise. In melb, I like Izakaya Chuji, Nihombashi Zen and Momotaro Ramen in Richmond. might go there for lunch actually..
and I plan to go to Peko Peko very soon. By the way, did you know that peko peko is how japanese kids say they are hungry.
peko peko is really nice on smith st
k2... where's izakaya chuji?
oh... in melbourne i also really dig wabisabi salon!
scissors: on lonsdale st between russell and exhibition, right near that dodgy mai tai place. It has no english on the outside, just a red neon sign with a japanese character. they do jap bbq upstairs, but the downstairs food rules and up the back, they have a proper sushi bar. worst service ever, but really good food.
shira nui in glen waverley, some of the best sushi in melbz
sounds good. thanks for the tip.
oh yeah... ben-k sushi in hawthorn also gets a thumbs up.
and i must recommend this other place that's practically diagonally opposite, but as i haven't been past there in a while, i struggle to remember the name... it's directly opposite hawthorn town hall. it's a very humble kind of atmosphere, but the food is great and it's very cheap. and healthy. i think he makes his own organic soy sauce and miso paste.
like i say, it's very simple, but it makes for a good cheap meal. plus, he's a nice guy and i want his business to survive, as i reckon it's pretty rare to find someone who runs a restaurant by themselves and makes some of the main ingredients too...

thats just how I like my japanese restaurants!
thought you might.
on the sign on the inside ''sorry about the noise, we're under a railway''
haha, excellent.
Wasabi Ice Cream at Izakaya Den is the bomb shizz!
so we cancelled Maha and are now having a teppanyaki birthday lunch at Koko. Yeah it's at crown which sucks, but I have wanted to go there for a long time. Will report back on how it was.
There is a place down by the corner of Francis St & Spencer St that sells dumpling hand rolls, made with halves of steamed gyoza.
THREAD CLOSED.
holy jesus!
mitsuko in kew. i didn't think i liked japanese food until i ate here.
there's a good sushi place in the galeries victoria in sydney (i guess it's been there about a year now) called hotaru. everything 3 bucks, some of the rolls are a little bit small but totally fine.
Went to Yu-u in the city last night, it was pretty awesome.
One year ago I went to Koko for lunch. Just to follow up: it was shit. Shit food, shit service, not Japanese at all. Avoid.
Dudes, Kokoro Ramen is awesome. Just up from Izakaya Chuji in what may be developing as Japan town. Pork belly tonkotsu ramen is out of this world plus they have Orion on tap and make their own noodles. There are always japs eating there but it's never full and it deserves to be so check it out, especially during winter.
That sounds amazing. Had kick ass soba last night at chocolate buddha for about twice the price. Kokoro will def be making my acquaintance.
Yep Kokoro rules! Their soft shell crab ramen is my favourite
Where is it?
Surprisingly there's a decent Japanese eatery in Greensborough.
Kokoro is on Lonsdale, near Russell
It's where Spice Kitchen used to be
Why that surprising? Nondescript suburban places are often rather reliable when it comes to all kinds of Asian foods, you just have to know which ones to check out. I got kick arse Japanese, Malaysian, Thai and Indian all near my place. I also got crappy ones as well but I don't eat at them now do I?
Thai and Indian are hit and miss. Japanese is def not as common so if you apply the same formula it is indeed surprising.
