The Bargain CDs Thread

scissors  said about 5 years ago  or at  5:23PM on Wednesday, January 3 2007 in music

Welcome to the Bargain CDs Thread!

This one's for letting everyone know about the things you've spotted in bargain bins around Australia, so they can go and score a good disc at a low price, should they so wish.

It goes like this:

Artist / Title

Store / Location

Price

Good luck!

hiponion  said about 5 years ago:

Good thread. :D

Hazard_Man  said about 5 years ago:

Modest Mouse / The Moon & Antarctica
JB's City (Melb)

$10

Laibach / Live cd
JB's City (Melb)
$7

hiponion  said about 5 years ago:

This thread's a bit different, I would've 'DASFFS'ed but I think this thread is a bit different.

hiponion  said about 5 years ago:

For example, if you hate a band but you know a CD is a bargain at a store, you can post it here for some other lucky M+N'er to pick up.

Hazard_Man  said about 5 years ago:

How is it different?

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

This thread is good. The other is for bargains scored, this can be for bargains for others to score.

Barrage
Numerous locations (seen at Nunawading and Pitt St)
$2-3

Hazard_Man  said about 5 years ago:

You can still find something in a bargain bin and not pick it up.
Sorry, no different.

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

DIFFERENT!

scissors  said about 5 years ago:

Just to add to Blake's post... he's referring to JB Hi-Fi.

mswahili  said about 5 years ago:

Circus Lupus - 'Solid Brass' and 'Super Genius'
Collector's Corner, Melb. CBD
$5 each

Been sitting there for ages. One of the best Dischord bands for my money. Feat Chris Thomson who later played in The Monorchid, Skull Kontrol etc. Witch Hats fans might appreciate?

mswahili  said about 5 years ago:

housebricks are worth more than CD's these days, keep the brick

paulie  said about 5 years ago:

what jbs, djbollocks? elizabeth or bourke?

Modi  said about 5 years ago:

If it's not part of a house, is it a housebrick?

paulie  said about 5 years ago:

it is if it used to be.

anonymous  said about 5 years ago:

hmm, lets call it a cd acquistion device.

Modi  said about 5 years ago:

Reminds me of the old joke.

Bloke walking down the street with his girlfriend.
"Oooh. I like that" she says to him, pointing at a dress in a shop window.

He picks up a brick and smashes the window, and give her the dress. They walk on.

"Oooh, I like that!" she says, indicating a necklace in a jewellers window. He picks up another brick and breaks the glass, giving her the necklace. They walk on.

"Oooh, I really like that" she says, pointing out a silverware set in another window

"Oi!" he says to her "I ain't made of bricks yer know"

Speaking of box sets, managed to pick up the Mute Audio Documents 10CD set from JB today for $50. Many hours of listening fun to come.

xhaustive 10 CD box set from Mute Records, a collection of their singles, A and B-sides, released between 1978 - 84 . The box contains four two-CD sets, each covering a specific time period (1978-81, 1982, 1983 and 1984) plus a bonus two disc set that contains 20 rarities by most of the artists featured in this box including Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Fad Gadget, Nick Cave, Non, Silicon Teens and The Normal. The first four volumes will be available separately later in 2007, but the bonus two CD set will only be available with this box! 128 groundbreaking tracks by one of the finest independent labels to emerge during the 'new wave' revolution. Also features cuts from D.A.F., Boyd Rice, Smegma, Robert Rental and more. 2007.

Jb Hi-Fi- Top Ryde (the best place for bargain cds)

Princess one point five- Vous Je Vous
The Late Chord- lights from the wheelhouse
saddleback- night maps
Channels- waiting for the next end of the world
Aaron Martin- River Water
Fireworks Night- As Fools we are

I got all those cds for under $25. I'm pretty sure I didn't even come close to clearing them out of all their good clearance cds too.

I'm not familiar with most of these artists and I am not familiar with any of these cds.

That's great. Wonder if they still have them.

Music Jungle at Vic Market is having a 30% sale off all their CDs. There's some good stuff in there for people who like a good CD bargain.

BigBoysSocks  said about 11 months ago:

So you bought them based on the artwork? Weird, Luke.

luke  said about 11 months ago:

no. labels, cost and to a lesser extent artwork. i.e the channels cd was put out by discord and was $3. I don't mind spending $3 to check out a discord band.

Jb Hi-Fi Top Ryde is very good for Australian indie too. Hence getting princess one point five, saddleback and Aaron Martin all for cheap.

A bunch of really great stuff on the 99c rack at JB HiFi Parramatta yesterday. Sun, Machine Translations, Crayon Fields, Laura Jean, Piklet, Stereolab, Four Tet and a bunch of other local and overseas stuff.

leoretard  said about 4 months ago:

Was that the Westfields one or the one off Church St?

runoutgroove  said about 4 months ago:

Church Street.

ghoti-max  said about 4 months ago:

Whooooole bunch of great stuff at Repressed at the moment for $10 a pop. Shitload of Elvis Costello...various other goodies also.

leoretard  said about 4 months ago:

Cheers runo

djbollocks  said about 4 months ago:

I've been having amazing luck at op-shops with CDs lately, really cool bands like Ween, Beach House, Atlas Sound, Radiohead all for under $1. It seems the death of the CD isn't all doom and gloom.

ghoti-max  said about 4 months ago:

Yeah, I grabbed a handful for <$3 a pop of Beck, Pixies, Cody Chestnutt, Dylan and Cohen the other week from Newtown Vinnies. Gotta take another look around.
