I was reading an article by Lawrie Zion in the {Meanjin special rock edition ](http://www.messandnoise.com/discussions/364908), and he was the one who claims to have come up with the Hot 100 concept for JJJ when it was still Sydney only.
His concept was for people to send in their ten favourite songs of all time, not what they thought was the best ten songs, just the ten they liked most. It was a completely subjective list, and was an attempt to gauge the music tastes of the JJJ audience to see if what they played was what people wanted to hear, not being officially rated in any way at the time, but in a more personal way than just checking how many people were listening at any given moment.
I was wondering if anyone could be bothered compiling a list of their personal 100 favourite songs of all time. Not albums, just songs, they don't have to be good by any objective measure, just songs that mean the most to you.

Mmm, yes. Three classical songs from ye olde Golden Era. Definitely worthy of "ALL TIME" spots.
pauline pantsdown. hehe
I rememebr rage playing the hot 100 when it was "of all time" must have been the last one before they made it a new songs only thing.
Heaps of songs there were no video for. Not the case now, I imagine.
It is interesting what changes, and what stays the same. Love Will Tear Us Apart is always in the list.
yeah thats true hey
So, anyone game to put together a list of their favourite 100 songs?
It's a big task, I guess.
I was gonna make a DVD of mp3s of my favourite songs, so I can put it on random for a couple of days.
What's number 2? Love Shack?
the fuck. i said 2. !
Oh, if you're going to do it seriously, could you maybe put them a few at a time in a single post? That would be cool.
a guy at work has blister in the sun as his ringtone.
normally something like this wouldn't make me want to hurt people, but he gets a lot of calls.
Can you tell him that it's not good workplace etiquette to have anything but "ring ring" or silent in the workplace, Ken?
So I hear. Unprofessiona, apparently

are you lot aware of busted?
sounds familiar...refresh my memory...
"Air hostess, i like the way you dress"
"glad i crashed the wedding, it's better than forgetting"
such classic rhyming couplets.
and who can forget the anthemic
"it's what i go to school for, even though it is a real bore!"
poetic genius! How dare we judge? this is ART! ART DAMMIT!
Maybe their genius lies in the simplicity?
I nearly choked on my Kit Kat when I saw this in the first list...
Strangely, it doesn't appear on any of the other lists.
I'd be interested to see some of 4zzz's lists from the early 80s.
hmmm... that should be 48. Not 1. Silly formatting.
Oh god there are so many more! aqua - Barbie Girl, that wasn't even a gimmick song!
what about the German Barbie Girl? Tis tres stoopid....
I preferred "Dr Jones" to "Barbie Girl"
me too! It was always less...offensive.
And catchier in a better way methinks.
Here's the 1998 list from ZZZ. I don't think it's an "all time" list though. It's the earliest they've got.
1998 4ZZZ HOT 100
As broadcast on 1 January 1999
But wait! Here's 1976 from ZZZ
that list is funny
It's very stoner rock, huh?
I had a giggle. How many JJ Cale tracks are in there!!!
I have an MP3 of the Pumpkins covering this live.
shitty formatting, supposed to say 97
Hmmm
why midhisattva modi?
That 1976 list could be the MMM playlist from last week. these days you could send in ten votes for your own song and make the top 50.
