blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

from Channel V music news...

""The Great Escape is back with even more acts to keep you entertained this Easter. Leading the next wave is exciting jam band John Butler Trio, sure to blow festival folk away with some improvised riffing, huge vibes and organic beats.

Little Birdy will be bringing the Perthian rock, straight from Hollywood, their new record. Seattle band, The Cops will be on hand for a bit of classic punk rock action and Melbourne act The Temper Trap will be gracing the stage.

Sydney's Bliss n Eso add a bit of skip hop flavour and Darren Hanlon, Holly Throsby, Angus & Julia Stone, Deerhoof, Stick Figures, Flogging Molly, Gogol Bodello, Ooh La La and Operator Please round out an expanding bill for what is shaping up to be one killer Easter festival. "

Oooo - that's great news. I was out of town last time they toured. I'm especially digging the new record too so that's even better!

So they're good live, aye? My mate's are supporting them on Tuesday night and having never listened to them I'm not sure whether to go or not. It's going to take a canny trek to get there.

blake3030  said about 4 years ago:

GO!

ProDelgado  said about 4 years ago:

90 minute bus trip, followed by 15 minute walk...then 30 minute Metro trip...then 10 minute walk...all straight from when I finish work...then gotta hope another mate can put me up in Newcastle for the night...

ProDelgado  said about 4 years ago:

Ended up stopping over in a hostel...it was worth it though, they were great live!

frigid star  said about 4 years ago:

Haha, nice drummers face shots of Greg there.

ProDelgado  said about 4 years ago:

They're borrowing the drummer from Maximo Park or something...

aloha  said about 4 years ago:

greg is awesome

I found this mildly amusing:

Deerhoof have posted a diary on their past 2 years, including their support shows for Radiohead in 2006. Apart from the earlier Radiohead mentions in interviews with JunkMedia and NME, the band tell more about their experiences of touring with Radiohead on their site.

Here are some bits and pieces (something you might have read before, and some new bits…)

[…] But again all nerves dissolved when upon entering the theater, Colin Greenwood immediately comes up and wants to take our picture, treating us like old friends. Thom walks onstage for their soundcheck, spots us, and intones into the mic, “Welcome members of Deerhoof!” Even with years of buildup and knowing there was no way they could live up to the legend, Radiohead were so much better than even my highest expectation, that my whole outlook on the world had to be immediately revised. But what people might not know is how they are in person. All five of them, and everyone in their enormous crew, were all so sweet to us, and such jokers. Colin kept posting pictures of us on dead air space, and he’d imitate Satomi’s dance during their show. Phil brought us cupcakes. Jonny brought us champagne, if we played well. Thom would watch us from the side of the stage. Ed asked us how we got our guitar tone, he wanted to steal it. If one of John’s pedals got busted (a frequent occurrence), someone from their crew would immediately offer to help.

[…] Jonny offered to play his ondes martinot on our album, but then said no when we made him a cd of our rough mixes, saying it already sounded done. We were flattered, but didn’t really agree, and while we spent our days traveling and playing concerts, we spent our late nights sitting at the computer trying to figure out what was wrong with our stupid songs. Like I mentioned before, we had long A-B’d our rough mixes with Radiohead albums. The only comparison more crushing than that would have to be mixing your album in a hotel room directly after a Radiohead concert.

adam  said about 4 years ago:

HEY guys, care to help out a newcomer and direct me to the best of Deerhoof? I want to buy a couple of their better albums. Thanks!

nishiki  said about 4 years ago:

every time i see this thread bumped my heart leaps out of my chest.

adam - they're all pretty damn good. i'd start with apple o' and milkman, however.

shaun  said about 4 years ago:

Halfbird is my favourite. Always gets my excited.

mswahili  said about 4 years ago:

yeah me too nish, there should be a generic Deerhoof thread.

So... I'm guessing you've all downloaded the new mp3 album, then?

blake3030  said about 4 years ago:

I'd buy Reveille, Apple O, Milkman, Runners Four and Friend Opportunity all at once. They're all as good as each other.

I think there is a Deerhoof box on the KillRockStars website which enables you to buy a number of these albums together at a reasonable price.

adam  said about 4 years ago:

Yeah, I;'m gonn a DL the album, but thought I'd jump onto Amazon and show them some credit card love as well... Might also check out KRS website as well. It's always nice to dip in a toe first though. Thanks guys!

adam  said about 3 years ago:

Guess what? A legitimate reason to bump this fred!! And sorry, I was wrong: Offend Maggie is as great as any of their other releases. Of course!!

From their website Q&A:

Nov 07, shane asked:
are you touring in australia any time soon??

Answer:
There are plans to go to Australia very soon, hopefully around February. Keep an eye on our dates! Things will be added over the next few months. Everyone really wants to get back to Australia, it's like a dream vacation getting to play there!

anok  said about 3 years ago:

yeah, they'll be back! someone should organise some warehouse craziness again like that first tour.

shaun  said about 3 years ago:

go Deerhoof!

fantasy fox  said about 3 years ago:

They can play at my Dad's house. NO INDUSTRY, FANS ONLY.

djbollocks  said about 3 years ago:
