NOISE BAR!
Rough As Guts No. 216 just uploaded
First show of the year coming up and this from Crucial Blast in the US -
all of our releases available online -
''The latest album of trancey metallic sludge-rock from Down Under, Excursions Through Chaos has another batch of tunes from Spider Goat Canyon, thirteen of 'em this time, that continue to combine ultra-heavy Melvins style sludge with crushing repetitive riffing and freefrom jamming that floats through thick clouds of psychedelic noise and cosmic FX. This new disc sounds a litte bit trippier than the last two that the band self-released through their own Chairfish imprint, Jazzilla and Cacophonic, and there is lots of extended instrumental jams on here where the band weaves heavy, hazy fields of heavily delayed guitar that meanders over freeform percussion, rumbling basslines and tons of spacey Hawkwind-style effects, or builds into a pounding krautrock jam with heavy motorik beats driving through swirling clouds of cosmic feedback. These spacey psychedelic jams sound like something you'd hear from Strange Attractors Audio House, like Paik or Subarachnoid Space or some other druggy, explorational space rock outfit, or even a little like some of the late 90's Earth stuff when they start to unfurl some Western sounding strains of slide guitar and reverby twang over a throbbing, freely improvised backbeat. But Spider Goat Canyon bring the heavy just as often, with crushing bouts of metallic pummel that sounds like the band is channeling Lysol-era Melvins but with a frontman delivering his lyrics in an evil, creeped-out sneer, or locking onto a massive chugging riff that they ride into infinity. Imagine a psychedelic space rock version of Gore, maybe, or the Melvins becoming possessed by the combined spirits of Hawkwind and Circle at their trippiest. I can't get enough of this band; every single one of their self-released discs that we carry is a crusher, a seriously massive slab of psychedelic improv-sludge and hypno-riff metalcrunch, and this one is just as killer as the rest; and like the rest, this disc has more of that evocative twilight photography of Melbourne at dusk for the packaging that they have used for most of their other recent releases, a consistent visual aesthetic that has carries across almost every one of their discs.''
Tonight, only show booked at present as we're about to hit the Studio and record our next couple of releases. Pony Bar with Superpussy, Hotel Wrecking City Traders and Fuckface.
Gonna be massive!

We just turned 6, here's our baby photo from an early show at Good Morning Captain in Collingwood. March 20th 2003.
Next show is a monster show at The Gerswin Room with Agonhymn, Clagg, Bring On The Junta, Wicked City and Trod Easter Friday April 10th.
hell yes.
Has been a while since I've bothered to post anything here but we've got some sweet stuff on the boil to crow about. Just received a vocal take from Harada from Ryokuchi in Japan and it's awesome. We gave him a track from our recent recording at Toyland studio's in Northcote called 'Secret Valley' and basically said to him to do what ever he wanted on it. He sent back a super passionate scream vocal track with some sweet chanting underneath. The lyrical content is a requiem to those who took there own lives at the end of the second world war in the pacific. He stressed that it is not romantacizing war, instead is rememberence to the ancestors who unfortunately died in a in-humane way. Lest we forget.
His vocal has pretty much completed one of our favourite tracks to date and we're really looking forward to wrapping up this latest recording. The forecast for the next period of time is three double CD's. The next one is 'Always The Heavy' which will be our 7th album and will feature a large chunk of the recent Toyland session. Following Always The Heavy we will compile and release the last two parts of the 4 part set that started with 'Jazzilla' and 'Excursions Through Chaos'. These last two parts are going to be one disc of Spider Goat material with one release also having a 'Zabulus' disc and the other a 'Computer Dying' disc.
Few shows coming up, we will be opening the Goat Witch On Fire album launch at 62 St Georges Rd on Saturday 29th August, it's going to be awesome. Hotel Wrecking City Traders are on after us then Goat Witch will do it's thing.
12th September we play with Elise and Jem at Glitch Bar
18th September we're playing the ESPY Gershwin Room for the Dive Into Ruin album launch.
Rock on yo!!!!
