Why can't he listen to people's advice? Has no one else in the world ever thought their life has sucked before? Looks like some good advice there. Go for a run, it doesn't fix everything, but it can at least help clear your head and clear your thoughts.

cos i've been down and out before, and most of the advice people give, while well intenioned and happy, really doesn't help much at all, especially when it feels like your mind is in a vice and is being slowly squashed into oblivion.

unsolicited advice is usually the most unwanted. However there's a lot to be said for allowing someone who's feeling down get it out, but not everyone wants to be dumped on. Incidentally, you don't live in Queensland, do you. If so, that would explain things.
