Just wondering if anyone had any experience with boarding houses (in general) and/or if anyone could recommend one (in Melbourne).
Thank you.

I've stayed in a few...
The one above the Royal Derby - a great location, but a shithole on the whole, possibly the grotesque kitchen I've encountered. If you're lucky you might score the room I had above where the drummer plays, 4/4 beats to send you to sleep.
The Stolberg in Preston - has nice big rooms, but is in Preston. Usual array of transient workers looking for other accommodation and using it as a base, with the common addition of 70yr old alcoholics on the pension coughing themselves into dishevelment. The latter I found to be much more interesting to engage with.
The Grandview - Probably the nicest of the bunch, located in Fairfield, bus and train at your doorstep. The bottleshop worker will sell you booze even if you turn up on your motorcycle and drop it in the driveway so I found.
That's helpful. Thanks. Is worrying about having my meagre possessions stolen a legitimate concern? Staying in a wretched hut doesn't worry me. Guitars that i could never afford to replace going walkabout is.
The Gatwick in St Kilda where the fun never stops (nor do the stabbings).
Why would u put yrself thru this?
Did you miss the first semester intake of the School of Hard Knocks?
Surely there are easier ways to die in a fire.
I woke up in a boarding house on Saturday morning. It was nice, quiet and peaceful, every room had locks on the door, and when I was having a morning cuppa a hott foreigner with a good body wandered into the kitchen in his underwear. Tell me how this could possibly be a bad living arrangement?!
There was a distinct lack of windows in the communal area though.
Asceticism. For my mosaics.
I'm moving from interstate. It is the most viable option considering my circumstances. It is not a big deal and you sound like a precious snowflake.
so you stayed over with the backpackers that offered you a five way?
Only two of 'em. And only for drinks, no kissing or sex was involved.
Where was it/what was it called, coz?
It was in an alleyway in between Lygon & Swanston, but other than that I'm a bit sketchy on the details.
The worst one in the state was in Albert St Footscray - it's laundry 'facilities' entailed a tap in the backyard with a rock underneath it for bashing clothes, or as I like to call it a ''sub-continental laundry''.
Hahaha. Coz stayed at Manhattan Terrace.
Heinrich, if you have worked in a desert for 2 months, including some -8c nights and 45c days, feel free to call me Snowflake.
Not into Couchsurfing??
Are you managing alright with the PTSD?
omfg hard-done-by-off!
yes yes!
I wanna be in this contest!
but.....i got nothin'
I kind of just want to know about decent boarding houses relatively close to the city.
''Keep away from my stuff!''
Don't hurt me, but what does PTSD mean again?
I rode past The Grandview this arvo, looked like it wasn't housing humans anymore.
Post Traumatically Stupid Disorder
Oh that's DEFINITELY me then. I need sleep......SLEEP dammit
PTSD is serious business, it fucks up lives.
That explains Tugboat then.
Have you looked in the short term rentals section of Gumtree Heinrich?
I've had a few freinds move from interstate who have found decent options in there until something more permanent was sorted out.
Hadn't thought of that. Looks promising. Thanks a bunch.
what about above the Birmy?
Move in with Hellza Heinrich.
I left it too late. Room is gone.
