Fer fucks sake spill, why start the thread then?
Agreed.
Either that, or realise that if you don't know, you're probably not meant to know.
Er, to seek out information?

um - hey Block.
Both of you are kidding, right?
What do you suggest, Ricko?
wow -- you'd think a 'website dude' would know how to format a link in a forum, eh?
RIO? I think you mean ROI - Return On Investment.
Being street press, a publication that you get for free, you'll find the ROI rarely compares to a commercial enterprise, such as Rolling Stone, Q, NME etc etc, hence the delayed arrival.
What, do you mean like this, dj?
Ha! Appears HTML coding has been turned off in this forum. Nice work, everyone.
The plain background and stock standard fonts isn't very exciting and doesn’t really make any attempt to portray a message of what this website or Beat is about.
With the gig guide, my only feedback is that the long list of content, bunched up together, with small font, hurts my eyes... but maybe I just need to get myself some glasses. Same goes with the home page... lots of pics running vertically, and made look even more bunched up by a very vertically styled font, again making it harder to read.
Would be awesome if you could search gigs via venue or geographically.
If anyone else would like their website critiqued by somebody who knows sweet fuck all about web design just let me know.
Thanks, Ricko.
There are only a handful of 'web safe' fonts any website can use. We've used one, but can look at other possibilities. Similarly, the browser you are using, your resolution settings etc will affect the size of the font.
With any website you either focus on the design or the content, sometimes a balance between both. If you want a flashy music website that makes you feel good about wasting your time on it, look elsewhere. We've decided to concentrate on content. The site will grow over the next few months to add more of the printed Beat material, so focussing on delivering everything you folks read in the printed version means design will take a back seat.
If you type in your suburb in the search box, it will show you a list of gigs. Select the 'following week/month' option and you'll get a chronological list in that area. Likewise, search for Espy, Evelyn Hotel, Pony, Tote etc and you get a similar list.
Sure, there are many gig guides about (JJJ, yourgigs, Faster Louder etc etc), but at the end of the day it's all just a list of information. Making it accessible is the priority, and making it pretty comes after.
Great mag fellas, great mag. Awesome metal column, not at all self-cripplingly irreverent.
Yerrr!
make sense to me BWD. Thasnk for the heads up.
gig guide looks pretty good. Except the show I'm playing isn't in there, so I hate it.
Email gigguide@beat.com.au, SGH.
In fact, spread the word. Email gigguide@beat.com.au with all your gig listings, from here to eternity.
story on the Tote: p 58.
Background image on their gig guide (which I find impossible to read, blue font, wtf?)
Beat website and gigs show up as malware in my google. Can't work out how to click through on the phone
What's with the fucking lame 'Loved/hated/drank' bit at the end of live reviews now? Who gives a fuck what a reviewer drank? And why should Beat be promoting drinking?
jagermeister says yes.
an excerpt from a recent adalita live review...
''For the majority of the set, there was a distinct lacking on stage, but that's what made the performance just what it was. There was nothing to distract the audience. And even if there was, nothing could've distracted them. For the most part, she would pound on the bass drum that was located beside her microphone, providing the heartbeat to the majority of the set list. For a few songs, however, she reminded everyone of just who she was - that quintessential rock 'n' roll frontwoman that has left audiences in awe for many years. All the while, JP was there, adding that extra bit of essence to each track. But still, all eyes were on Adalita. It was difficult to not pay attention to her and the words that were coming out of her mouth with such fierce; each word obviously meaning something to her.''
it seems the 'drank' thing is included as an excuse, ie, i drank this hence my writing is fucking awful because i'm still intoxicated?
i'd just prefer it if they got back to the classic style of ''we had a few tinnies at my place so we missed the support, then i was at the bar so i missed the second support....''
That should go in the 'worst reviews' section.
