M+Ners in the UK thread

HEB  said about 5 years ago  or at  2:57AM on Wednesday, November 29 2006 in chat

As it seems half of this board are coming to the UK for ATP, or other reasons, it may well be that a separate thread is needed, to stop the London Calling one getting swamped.

So, feel free to post adventures, experiences and questions here, whether they be about work, rest or play

Up to you now!

shaun  said about 5 years ago:

Can you smoke in this thread?

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

Places to avoid:

SheBu Walkie
Camden on the weekends
Oxford Street

Rorge  said about 5 years ago:

Tell us about your dreams, then we'll act them out for you and let you know how they go. :)

paraphernalia74  said about 5 years ago:

The UK?;)

Rorge  said about 5 years ago:

Hey Camden has some cool pubs you can chill out in... plus I walked past Noel Fielding of the Mighty Boosh there a couple of months back.

But the crowds are shit. And they shut the tube station after 3!!

Rorge  said about 5 years ago:

The UK is going great para... next?

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

So go during the week.
Same pubs; better vibe

Rorge  said about 5 years ago:

Have people visited Brick Lane? Cool markets and yum curry.

shaun  said about 5 years ago:

I had the worst curry I've ever eaten at the Camden markets. There is an awesome second-hand LP store there though.

shaun  said about 5 years ago:

I think I'll go check out Brick Lane and further east this weekend.

Rorge  said about 5 years ago:

There's some great bars and clubs out that way too...

paraphernalia74  said about 5 years ago:

Do yourselves a favour and take the 106 from Finsbury Park station to Manor Rd or take the 73 direct to Stoke Newington Church Street and take a leisurely stroll through Abney Park cemetry. My favourite place in London.

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

Best London live venues:
The Luminaire
Union Chapel

Worst London live venues:
The Mean Fiddler {aka LA 2}
Underworld

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

P74 - Abney Park is a well-known beat
;-)

You can also catch the train direct Liverpool Street to Stoke Newington

Rorge  said about 5 years ago:

I love old cemeteries... spoooky. I'll have to check it out.

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

Brompton Oratory

I know. When I first moved to London my flatmate said he saw Jarvis in Abney Park. He then very quickly said "He wasn't bumming or anything..."

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

You can get unwarranted attention wandering around on your own.
Your motives are easily confused by others.

Anyone going to this on Friday?

chickenchops  said about 1 year ago:

Hey expats!

I'm currently planning my first trip to Europe. Is Heathrow a complete drag to navigate? I can get an awesome fare to Stockholm with Malaysian Airlines, but it involves only a two-hour stopover at Heathrow, which doesn't seem like a terribly long time if I need to collect bags and check in again...

HEB  said about 1 year ago:

Depends what terminals cc
1-3 are in one place, 4 another and 5 fuurther away still

Bye bye SallySimpson

Hey coffee lovers,
[St Ali](http://stali.com.au/
) is opening on Clerkenwell Rd soon.

Velodrone  said about 1 year ago:

I bought a bootleg copy of the extremely rare (read completely unavailable) copy of The Futurist by Shellac from a record store in London.

I was also cold a lot of the time there, and the busses stunk most of them time.

That Inbetweeners thing would be rad though.

INNER CITY RIOT

Day Three

So strange
The whole of the east is being hit; basically any shops in poor areas are providing rich pickings
Central Hackney is being shuttered up right now even though it’s only mid afternoon

More trouble’s a brewin’

Take care, young man!

My friend in Bethnal Green said underage hoodies are everywhere.

The media has now successfully created an environment of fear
Folks rush home in the evenings as though vampires will arrive at dusk
Well done you

Now we can approve water cannon, plastic bullets and maybe even the army on the streets

charlesincharge  said about 9 months ago:

but where are the parents?

probably out at night working menial jobs.

HEB  said about 9 months ago:

Vegemite is 1/3 off at Sainsburys - only £1.32 for a 220g jar
That's waaaay cheaper than you can buy it in Oz
(AUD$2.10 for 220g? Not likely)

In other news, DC approved the use of water cannon today

spaceman1  said about 9 months ago:

Yay, water fight!!!!!

I've just moved to the UK, but I'm in nowheresville (the cotswolds). Is there a site similar to M+N that anyone knows of that will inform me of good gigs/bands/venues in Bristol or London?
