M+Ners in the UK thread

HEB  said about 1 year ago  or at  2:57AM on Wednesday, November 29 2006.

As it seems half of this board are coming to the UK for ATP, or other reasons, it may well be that a separate thread is needed, to stop the London Calling one getting swamped.

So, feel free to post adventures, experiences and questions here, whether they be about work, rest or play

Up to you now!

Places to avoid:

SheBu Walkie
Camden on the weekends
Oxford Street

Rorge  said about 1 year ago:

Tell us about your dreams, then we'll act them out for you and let you know how they go. :)

paraphernalia74  said about 1 year ago:

The UK?;)

Rorge  said about 1 year ago:

Hey Camden has some cool pubs you can chill out in... plus I walked past Noel Fielding of the Mighty Boosh there a couple of months back.

But the crowds are shit. And they shut the tube station after 3!!

Rorge  said about 1 year ago:

The UK is going great para... next?

HEB  said about 1 year ago:

So go during the week.
Same pubs; better vibe

Rorge  said about 1 year ago:

Have people visited Brick Lane? Cool markets and yum curry.

shaun  said about 1 year ago:

I had the worst curry I've ever eaten at the Camden markets. There is an awesome second-hand LP store there though.

shaun  said about 1 year ago:

I think I'll go check out Brick Lane and further east this weekend.

Rorge  said about 1 year ago:

There's some great bars and clubs out that way too...

paraphernalia74  said about 1 year ago:

Do yourselves a favour and take the 106 from Finsbury Park station to Manor Rd or take the 73 direct to Stoke Newington Church Street and take a leisurely stroll through Abney Park cemetry. My favourite place in London.

HEB  said about 1 year ago:

Best London live venues:
The Luminaire
Union Chapel

Worst London live venues:
The Mean Fiddler {aka LA 2}
Underworld

HEB  said about 1 year ago:

P74 - Abney Park is a well-known beat
;-)

You can also catch the train direct Liverpool Street to Stoke Newington

Rorge  said about 1 year ago:

I love old cemeteries... spoooky. I'll have to check it out.

I know. When I first moved to London my flatmate said he saw Jarvis in Abney Park. He then very quickly said "He wasn't bumming or anything..."

HEB  said about 1 year ago:

You can get unwarranted attention wandering around on your own.
Your motives are easily confused by others.

Circle Line Party Advice Sheet

  • If anyone in uniform asks, we are all on the same train by sheer chance!
  • The adverts on the train are ugly, bring something to make the train a nicer place. This does not mean graffiti, it means stuff that can be taken home.
  • Be extra extra nice to the general passengers, give them food, give them drinks, give them sweets, make them very very very welcome.
  • It's a party, come in your fanciest frock! Dress to the nines Dahling!
  • Bring entertainment, bring music, instruments, card tricks, jokes and chat up lines. You are the entertainment, bring what you hope will have been organised and you will not be disappointed.
  • If you are going to drink, we suggest spirits rather than beer. THERE ARE NO TOILETS ON THE TRAINS, so go before you board.
  • It can get very stuffy down on the tube, BRING A BOTTLE OF WATER! If you get too hot, get off the train and wait for the next party to arrive, you can always dash up the northern, or along the central line to catch up with your original train again.
  • If you see someone looking glum or lost, cheer them up, give them a drink and make a new friend.

STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE ADVICE

  • DO NOT SMOKE, it sets off the alarms and stops the party.
  • London Underground do not allow flash photography, and there will be a video made, we do not need 300 cameras documenting everything, if in doubt, leave yours at home. Come to party, not to make your journalistic career.
  • Clean up after yourself, if you bring something, take it home. We are trying to show how wonderful the world can be, not how messy and careless we are.
  • We fill the train from the back carriages, THE FRONT CARRIAGE IS LEFT EMPTY so that the driver doesn.t hear the noise and passengers have a peaceful place if they wish. If the train is packed out DON.T GET ON THE FRONT CARRIAGE.
  • The party happens in the tunnels, IF WE ARE IN A STATION, OR ON A PLATFORM WE ARE SILENT AND LOOKING INNOCENT, if we are in a tunnel we are discotastic.
  • Use your head, we are not going to be held responsible for you, and we are not going to be your parents, nor are we going to be the police. If you see someone doing something stupid or dangerous tell them to stop, they are ruining your party. If you are doing something stupid or dangerous, then stop. Don't block the fire exits, use your brains. Look out for each other, help each other out and have the nicest night of your life.

Hi everyone... If anyone has a room available/knows someone with a room available in the next week or so please PM me ASAP as I have to be out of where I'm staying this weekend cos they need the spare room back.

I don't really care where it is anymore, as long as there's transport links nearby, preferably a tesco's or something nearby and its furnished. And a reasonable rent for the area (although the cheaper the better obvs).

I'm quite the seasoned sharer, having lived with male/female/gay/straight/couples etc etc in Sydney for over 6 years. Very respectful, very social so I won't be moping at home very often, and due to the nature of my work will probably be away or working weekends on occassion too.

Ummm... other than that I'm pretty normal. 25 yrs, non smoker, non veg, very good with rent and bills (having been a leaseholder myself, I know what its like) and very neat (but not anal).

OK cheers

x shazzat
