80s guitars..

angelicIV  said about 1 year ago  or at  4:20PM on Friday, September 3 2010 in chat

some people might enjoy posting 80s guitars for fun and also some ironic love cos ironically some of them were very very very friggin good. I think charvel (early ones) early kramers and Jackson....kinda like boutique pedals are today these little boutique makers were making these guitars...I think thats how it went..like lotus or a small english car maker...anyway I'd love a charvel or something...

I read a noise band mentioned they had a pointy guitar and I was like yeah wow...cool.

I had a Washburn Nuno Bettencourt N4 which was actually not a bad looking guitar, played amazingly and had a locking trem - good for those divebombs. It sounded fucking shit though.

btw I had a washburn King V with white and black stripes in 86'..third guitar, didn't last long..I got a decent strat...but my washburn had a graphite neck. it was good. but it was 'cold' to play...didn't feel right somehow...

but it had the best locking trem on it also...amazing....some sort of floyd rose licenced deal...haha 'flutters' HAHA also it had shit pickups but they were splittable humbuckers...

Bam.

You can currently see one particularly fetching model strapped onto Scotty of True Radical Miracle.

angelicIV  said about 1 year ago:

ahh yeah lead series..gee they finished quick...

I think this is all coming back. Been into Mannys or Cranbourne music recently? Pointy guitars and locking systems aplenty.

Have you seen the new Zakk Wylde guitar? Combo of Flying V and SG. It’s an abortion.

For the record: I've had a Canora white flying V, and an early black BC Rich pointy thing. I always wanted an old beaten up black Rich Bich.

angelicIV  said about 1 year ago:

really? in the shops new? wow....oh shit...HAHA

I saw dave graney play a conora flying v on tv..like a few years ago....

angelicIV  said about 1 year ago:

HAHA OMG..yeah it's shit

btw just went to the mannys sit and 8 pages of point guitars like ESP and DEAN and yeah didn't realise...haha hard to believe they are back...

Haha...Washburn. That was my first guitar. I kept it cause no matter how hard I tried to smash it up (yeah I had a dumb phase where I thought that was cool) it would not break so I felt I could never get rid of it. It had a floyd style trem on it. I once grabbed it by the trem and shook shit out of it and the Trem popped off with all the strings locked in the other end.I had the Trem in one hand and the guitar was laying on the floor. I picked it up and snapped the Trem back on and...IT WAS STILL IN TUNE.

Thats when I decided I could never get rid of that guitar. Haven't played it in years. It had some kind of mould on it last time I was brave enough to look at it.

AHAHA GOLD. that's a great story.

Angelic, I always liked those charvel surfcasters. I think they were produced in the early 90's though. It looked like the bastard son of a Ms Rickenbacker and a Mr Fender.

80's guitars rule! my ibanez with locking tremolo is the nicest guitar i played and the cheapest too!

i played a couple of US Charvels, and while not my thing (even in the 80's) they were real nice. I thought the jap and whatever came next were shite, even top of the line models. Mind you i had a very early 80's japanese BC Rich that i wish i never sold. It was amazing. I've only ever seen another like it in 25 years since.
