Ricaine. Midget. Mark of Cain. My Disco. Blacklevel Embassy. Scul Hazzards. Am I wrong in assuming that this is an Australian tradition?

You'd have to look at the figures worldwide per country per capita to determine if it is particularly Australian or a worldwide trend.
I'm erring toward the latter.
I have Albini worship, but I'm not in a trio. Make what you will of this information.
The trio I was playing in had its first rehearsal in 5 years. It fits the above criteria.
The Mark Of Cain actually predated a lot of the bands they were later compared to, like Big Black and Helmet. They started in 1984, though their first recordings didn't come out until 88.
new albini interview
My tenuous memory of those early Mark of Cain recordings was that they were a lot more like Joy Division than Big Black. Haven't heard them for a while though, and those latter albums do sound a lot more Albini-like.
It's a tradition...of being awesome. (Or trying to be).
How can they predate Big Black?
limit of shunt were unreal
Yes. Yes they were.
bad girls of the bible
there are a million of these in the US too.
technician, for one. who's record was leaked as excellent italian greyhound and turned out to be better than the pretty crappy real thing.
I prefer the term 'Albiniophile'
Ha! I was in that band for a little bit.
Oh, and SWORDS.
i remember yelling ''doris!'' at them between songs one time. (bgotb)
I only played two shows with them. I wasn't ''good enough'' and was kicked out so the drummers girlfriend could join.
