We at Missing Link Records would like to take this time to
announce that Collectors Corner is ceasing operations in
Swanston Street at the end of September and we have
reached an agreement to combine forces to create the best
independent record store in existence!
Collectors corner will be moving in with us commencing
October 2010.

together at the bourke st missing link?
nah at swanston I'm guessing.
No, missing Link.
woah.
I always enjoyed Collectors Corner... got some great CDs and DVDs there. Oh well, Missing Link it is!
Oh no! Does that mean they'll stop using this rad logo I designed for Collectors Corner 20 years ago?
Ha, that was you? Sweet
Charlie better still have a job.
This is good though, saves me having to walk to both on a pay day lunch break

Damn straight. No more will your Soviet-inspired Collectivist imagery taint innocent young record buyers with allusions to party congresses and the Russian Civil War.
You see right through me. Kids used to pop into Collectors Corner to buy a Sonic Youth bootleg and be organising violent pogroms the very next day.
full story to come on M+N soon.
It always shat me that there was no apostrophe in ''Collectors Corner'' though.
did the competition watchdog okay this massive merger of two musical superpowers?
hmmm maybe the logo is to blame for this collectivisation? although that 90s font shows a lack of regard for post-modernism..re-do it post-modernist please. in cryllic
woah.
hmmmmmmm. innarestin
Missing Corner?
Collectors Link?
Sad to see an old haunt close, but then it's not quite closing... will CC still be a separate entity within this new beast? I've consulted the Anagram Server for a suitable new name merging the two, highlights are:
Krill Snoring, Morons' Eclectics
Colorless Intercom's Crinkling
Cock Monster Grills Crinolines
Your choice.
We have a wiener!
Why? It makes more sense than with an apostrophe.
''Collectors Corner'' refers to collectors in the plural, ie a corner for multiple collectors.
''Collector's Corner'' refers to a single collector's corner (a possessive apostrophe)
In most music store signs I see ''CD's, LP's etc's'' are incorrectly using the possessive apostrophe and are contributing to the downfall of correct grammar usage.
And yes, that last sentence is incorrectly worded, I should have proof read it before posting.
Come on, you can do better than that. The apostrophe belongs here: Collectors' Corner.
Hmmm.... that's one less record shop to not give me a job next time I'm looking. And one less place to put up gig posters & fliers.
In my long-ago youth I used to spend a bit of time there (when it was located on the other side of the road) when doing the record shop rounds on my Dad's yearly train ticket when he was on work holidays. That place was responsible for my first Bowie, Iggy and X (US) purchases, among others.
Good luck with ''the best independent record store in existence'' project, to all involved.
Where would you put it? One collector, or all of them?
(PS- Go with Cock Monster for the new logo, Frankie)
x post
I read this as CC is moving stock into ML basement? I hope so, I love going down into that basement, kinda reinforces the 'underground' thing (without being a wanker).
Personally, I never really liked CC; they charge some stupid prices for easily-obtained-elsewhere vinyl. When the upstairs part was open a bought quite a bit of stuff and they had tapes!
Still, this is bad news overall. I new ML was struggling, so hope this works out for all concerned and jobs don't disappear.
You're right Frankie, people who use incorrectly placed possessive apostrophes on signs seem to be the majority so I assumed you were one of them.
''Collectors Corner'' isn't really incorrect being that it is a proper noun so the rule doesn't have to apply. But yes, an apostrophe after the plural s is certainly more apt.
My mistake.
Point taken :)
Me too... just trying to remember where it was back in the late 80's... Swanston St, but north of Lonsdale and on the west side, big place... I think there's an Asian restaurant of some sort there now.
What about the one in Balaclava, whats to become of him?
It was between Lonsdale and Little Lonsdale. Kinda where Sahara is now.

I'm pretty sure it was on that corner for a while too, ocelotl, opposite the church.
Having scrolled through this, I'm thinking the place now called Vietnamese Grill Bar. Seem a bit obsessed with figuring this out. Lost youth and all that.
That seems about right, ocelotl.
Man this made me laugh. kudos.
also opening in curtin house?
two stores, divide and conquor strategy?
confused.
are they open in curtin house yet? open tonight?
been open in curtin house for awhile now. 3rd floor. open to 7.
anyone know what's happened to the missing link website? i've tried to look at it a few times in the last week or two and it seems to have disappeared, or at least is out of action.
ahh, not just me then.
So can someone tell me where the secondhand stuff is? Curtin House or Missing Link?
Both
Thanks brody.
Missing Link – Collectors Corner - Record Store Day 2011
Basement 405 Bourke St, Melbourne, Australia
Free CD compilation with purchase, limited to 100!
Features tracks from Spencer P. Jones, Crayon Fields, Aa, Pets With Pets, Fabulous Diamonds, Witch Hats, Chrome Dome, Parading, Beastwars, Cosmic Psychos, Hotel Wrecking City Traders, The Bonniwells, Pivixki, Primitive Calculators and Spider Goat Canyon
Not happy with the merge at all.
CC is so overpriced compared to all other stores in Melb and they've gone and merged the records together so you can't just look at the Missing Link stock.
