Cop Out.
8/10 for me.
Seann William Scott is gold.
Also pick up *Invisible Target * at Sydney Rd Blockbuster's AZN section. (I'm returning it tomorrow night if anyone want to pick it up)
7/10
It is from 2007 but looks like a (fucking awesome) 1980's classic Hong Kong Police movie.
It is like a Jackie Chan movie minus Jackie Chan. The stars: Nicholas Tse, Shawn Yue (Infernal Affair), Wu Jing (Poor man's Jet Li/ Chinese Tony Jaa) and Jaycee Chan (Jackie Chan's son).

Gainsbourg.
Kind of mixed opinions on this one. Quite like 'creative' biographies, and the giant plastic creatures that represent Serge's, uh, less insecure emotions, are pretty creative. The leads generally look uncannily like the real people they represent and the make-up and costumes are exceptional (watching Serge age is incredible) and the acting is usually great (Serge's mum and dad are charming and become more sympathetic and endearing as they age and come to understand their odd son).
On the other hand it still doesn't overcome the usual problem with biopics, which is that people and situations come and go without indication of why and where (his second wife literally appears from nowhere for two scenes and disappears without a mention, I had to search Wikipedia for any idea who she was even supposed to be) and major parts of his life are left out. His stormy relationship with Birkin seems incomplete without delving in to the absolutely filthy and just plain weird film they made together - but it's entirely absent from the movie. Likewise entire slabs of his recording career are left out (piano player in a bar and now he's being swarmed by teenage girls! What?!) but there's an inexplicable five minute scene of him in the studio with Sly and Robbie recording a reggae version of la Marseillaise.
I had a positive experience overall, but I can't figure out why it has the insanely high 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Double-D Avenger.
No matter how shit you think it would be, it's worse.
terminator salvation.
my favourite thing about the whole movie was the sound effect used for the giant robot. there was a musical, whimsical quality about that mechanical whirl / hum. almost like a quiz show wrong answer ''bop-bum''. except more ''hup-humm''
like a humming murderous mechanical giant. i like that. he's enjoying his work.
Leaves Of Grass - Tim Blake Nelson (2009 USA) Ed norton playing twin brothers; one a redneck dope grower, the other a high flying philosophy professor. Reads interestingly on paper but slowly goes further and further downhill. By the last act you are completely insulted and left wondering how Ed Norton could executive produce such a bad film. btw.. when you get shot with a shot-gun, it makes a LOT of mess. It does NOT make a single entry hole like a bullet. 1 star.
Lemontree - Eran Riklis (2008 Israel) Beautifully shot, tenderly directed and wonderfully executed. A Palestinian woman defends her lemon trees against the Israeli's and their obsessive desire for security. A nice comment on contemporary society's obsession with safety to the point of lunacy. 4 stars
I absolutely loved this movie:
I concur.. I sat through this tripe a while ago based on a short treatise that really offered more hope than warranted.
Thinking I'll watch this tonight:
Let us know how it goes Hellza...that looks terrific.
ponyo!
It was beautiful Alec...beautiful
yeah i saw it at the cinema one time. but of hayao miyazaki's films what i've seen, i like spirited away the best
that seems like a stupid thing to say, but don't you think the animation was really amazing? i thought it was great to see it on the big screen... that's why i said it
No...I get ya...yes it was amazing. I never use to really watch animated films much but Mrs.C got me into them a bit and now I really enjoy them...well the ones I've seen anyway which is mainly miyazaki. I reckon Miyazaki is tops.
Gonna watch this soon...
The Killer Inside Me - Michael Winterbottom (2010 USA) Absolutely perfect art direction and cinematography. The violence was gratuitous and I am still unsure how I feel about the notion of 'getting off on a beating'. Affleck was perfect. His gravelly voice and accent spot on. Baker was a bit of a miscast, the effects at the end really tacky and detracting from the otherwise perfect execution. Soundtrack was perfectly complimentary as well. 4 stars
Seeing Ghostwriter recently has me convinced that Margaret and David are on somebody's payroll...how else could they both give this steaming turd 4 stars??
The worst kind of hackneyed scooby-doo conclusion and pointless schlock-shock ending I've seen in recent memory
Mr. Polanski has another thing to hang his head in shame about now.
half a star (and that's for the bogus 'location' scenes that were supposed to be in the US but were actually Northern Germany)
^ I agree. Ghostwriter was c...........rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...........aaaaaaa..............p
i liked ghost writer well enough, surprised by the hate from nearly everyone i know. plot was eh, but i had a good time grooving on the atmosphere

Eli Roth is directing RZA's Kung Fu movie, starring Russell Crowe and Pam freaking Grier
Final Destination 5
A passable popcorn movie.
Mission Impossible 4
A bit meh. Have a bit of JJ Abram's awesomeness though.
I don't even know what i'm looking at in that Hostel poster.
Riddle me this: What is the cutest, most adorable, genuine horror movie you know? Can something be scary AND really lovely?
Evil Dead 2
Or American Werewolf in London, maybe.
may (lucky mckee, 2002 USA). cute, awkward young woman can't connect with other people and goes crazy. it's not terrifying but i think it's tragically lovely.
Oh, I heard of that one. Been meaning to check that. Cheers!
lucky mckee is a fucking legend.
i interviewed Lucky McKee, super cool dude. I recommended Trouble Every Day to him, haha
he'd never seen it? wow.
Had never heard of it! I thought the woman in The Woman was a nod to Beatrice Dalle in TED, apparently not
woah!
I was at the melbourne q&a at MIFF, so impressed by how he and Polyanna spoke. Polyanna in particular, actually. I asked her a question. First time I'd ever asked any question at any q&a and i nearly tripped over my own tongue. but yeah, it was really enlightening. what a freaking awesome movie,
*Pollyanna
Well I fucken liked Hostel II fuck ya's. Good dumb violent fun.
*Hostel II *is a fine film. *Cabin Fever *isn't bad either.
Recently I rewatched Nikita, The Killer, An American Werewolf in London and Monty Python's The Meaning of Life. The first two were dubbed VHS copies, which was a bit odd. I've never seen the proper widescreen, subtitled version of The Killer actually, which is a bit of an oversight. Probably why I preferred Hard Boiled.
Also caught the last half of Streetfighter on telly. It may be terrible, but it certainly isn't boring. And Raoul Julia is priceless in it.
did a sunday matinee back-to-back viewing of the 2 versions of not of this earth - the original 1957 roger corman vintage and the 1988 remake with traci lords in the starring role. nothing quite like an economically / minimally stylised b&w schlock that is a corman classic to enliven a dull and sober sunday afternoon. as for the remake: oh my, that traci lords sure looked dishy whatever the angle, set, context, lighting, etc she graced herself in. roxanne kernohan shows up on this one as an eager hooker giving us a nice glimpse of her reality... anyone remember her in critters 2 playing a playboy centerfolded bounty hunter from outer space? god, those were some primed-for-life tits.
lovely pick up. out of all his films (feature lengths and shorts inclusive), my topmost favourites are his adaptation of poe's the fall of the house of usher and the pit and the pendulum. rare to find him in pared-down form but i guess it comes with the territory of channelling those particular poes. the quay brothers probably wish they had the raw gothic acumen to pull something like that off in their filmmaking pursuits.
Tin Tin!
So much fun. Felt like a kid agin.
Wah!
weekend 2011:
ever since go fish i've been a sucker for realistic relationship movies, bonus points for queer content. it's bang on.
will carve out time to watch [spike jonze sk8 movie on youtube].(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkRQ-PSnbdk&feature=related).
i really dug the dogtown & z boys movie too.
shame: wow. that was overhyped. still on a fassbender bender though.
