Craigmillar Festival Proposes World Community Arts Day - posted 15.11.2006
area: World-wide dates: Proposed date 17 February 2007
Edinburgh-based Craigmillar Festival is asking arts groups around the globe to band together for World Community Arts Day. With a proposed date of 17 February 2007, the day would raise awareness of how community art is a global movement, looking at its history, present day activities and future. They are asking individuals, organisations and groups to arrange an event in their own community to mark this day. The event could just be a gesture or a larger event such as:
• An ongoing project you wish to highlight. • A website or discussion group • A small or large gathering • A walk or art performance • An exhibition or art class • A poem etc
The only criteria is that the arts activity involved 'must be a catalyst for social change and caring'. All the events will be linked by a communal e-mail, which will be sent out to press and friends. So in theory, this will not cost anything.
Their aim is to get groups around the world to agree to do this, and already their website shows interest from as far afield as Mexico and New York. To get involved or find our more information, contact Andrew Crummy, Craigmillar Communiversity. Tel: ++44 7986 352188 or visit their website www.communiversity.org.uk.
Thanks for wording me up.
