I've had a pain in my chest, slightly to the left side, around about the height of where my heart is, for about 24 hours. It's not an intense sudden pain, more a constant slightly burning pain.
I highly doubt it's a heart attack, I've not had any other symptoms and the pain has not been strong enough. Anyone have any ideas? Does indigestion/heartburn last this long? A pierced lung perhaps?
And yeah, I'll go see a doctor if it lasts much longer or get worse.

see a doctor now, save the mucking around
note: I (and anyone else here) isn't a medical professional
(all the more reason to see a doctor)
Definitely see a doctor. 24hrs is a long time. Sounds too long for heartburn anyway.
When it comes to your heart, the phrase ''better safe than sorry'' is not merely a cliche.
Consult a professional.
Doctor!!!
I couldn't get an appointment today, it's not ''chest pain'' chest pain, just a slow constant burn. I'll go to a doctor if it gets worse though. Anyone know a bulk biller in Richmond?
I say live with the pain and hope it blows over. Better than being told you are having a heart attack. I mean, what would your friends say? There goes Mr Heart Attack thats what they would say.
you need a Doctorb. The ''B'' is for Bargain!
...but seriously go to one of the ones on smith st behind the chemist warehouse
BAM!
go to a bloody hospital. tell them you have chest pain and they will check you out.
it's most likely not anything serious but you should not muck around with this.
There's a dude on the corner of bridge and coppin st (next to the video store) that's bulk bill and no appointments neccesary.
emergency department. simple. do it. never be embarrassed or think it's a low priority to go to a doctor.
well there was, he should still be there :)
the one good thing about chest pain, it that you don't have to worry about appointments, most places will see you straight away.
Whenever I dislocate my shoulder, emergency waves me straight on through to the doctor.
Raise your shoulder funny when you walk into the admissions and say you think you've dislocated you shoulder, then when the doctor comes, wait until he gives you the pain killers, then tell him you release its actually sever chest pain. Then he cures you plus you get good pain killers.
I am a health professional and if you're at all concerned it is best to seek advice.
yeah, me too, steveholt.
that said, i have no idea. if you have time to kill, go to emergency (tuesdays aren't too bad at most emergency depts), bring a book, and get comfy.
odds market -
reflux - $2.40
strained intercostal - $3.00
angina pectoris - $8.00
oesophageal spasm - $16.00
no wonder you can't get an appointment, happycow. as demonstrated by the two previous posts, they are too busy mucking about on the internet to treat you.
but the internets is how we diagnose in the first place.
shhhh. don't tell anyone.
i'll put $5 on strained intercostal.
that's some good odds for oesophageal spasm.

I tend to get the chest pain thing when I a) overdo exercise or b) overdo stretching after.
But you know, 24 hours worth = reason to check out advice of someone IRL, yanno. I mean, my only qualifications around here is making cracks about snooddude and now even that's outdated.
i knew it.
i would have laid off on the the other diagnoses. unfortunately anon is the only one who bet, so it looks like i owe him $15.
''Before a rash is visible, the patient may notice several days to a week of burning pain and sensitive skin. When the characteristic rash is not yet apparent, it may be difficult to determine the cause of the often severe pain.''
Hang on, maybe it could still be Shingles. Shit. I hope it's not.
we are seeing a lot of shingles at the moment, so maybe anon won't get his cash.
have you been sick or immuno-compromised in the last few weeks?
I've had a bit of a cough for a month or two. I've been feeling really really tired in the past few weeks and have been going to sleep very early more often than usual. I had a blood test recently and attributed the tiredness to a severely low Vitamin D level (19). No other anomalies in the blood test.
made me laugh for unknown reasons
surely steak and push-ups is the remedy here?
Shingles is balls. Unlucky.
If the rash that follows the dermatome crosses the midline of the body, it's not shingles. I was having some guesses as I was reading but wouldn't have picked shingles. And it seems there are some health professionals here. Go chats!
Hope it's just a strain of the same muscle that shingles attacks before the rash appears. The doctor told me It's probably not shingles...
Oh, and get onto some cholecalciferol-containing Vitamin D supplement asap. This winter has been wintery.
I'm not in the habit of diagnosing based on internet posts but it doesn't sound like shingles.
The doctor said it was most likely a muscle thing, but could be shingles because the burning sensation in the exact place it is is a symptom of shingles. The exact symptom of shingles to be precise, before the rash breaks out.
And the doctor knows a lot more than you, you dirty Crows supporter :P
ie the muscle that is causing the pain is the same muscle and is exhibiting the same type of pain the shingles virus causes when it attacks said muscle prior to the lumps on the skin.
I might know more about it than you think. I might not. Like I said though I'm no interweb diagnoser.
Does it hurt to move certain ways? Does it hurt to breathe in or out? Pain along your ribs and around the back or shoulder blades?
well take it easy for a while happycow cos if if's shingles you're going to be pretty rooted for a while.
Shingles can come on spurred by stress. SERENITY NOW.
i faked chest pains to get out of work earlier this year.
i mean i was having them but i knew i wasn't having a heart attack.
but that didn't stop me misrepresenting my symptoms.
'hey look, i've had chest pains for the last two days and i feel like i'm going to throw up right now. i'm ten years younger than my dad was when he had his heart attack and it's probably just a combination of an intercostal muscle strained during an excessive bout of self servicing and i probably feel like i'm going to vomit because it's 42 degrees and the office air conditioning doesn't works but let's just pretend it's better to be on the safe side and i'll be back to work tomorrow with a medical certificate.'
i can't remember what i watched on foxtel that day.
my blood pressure was in the healthy range though.
Id go to the doctor if I was you. My mum recently died of a cardiac tamponade - ie. the sack your heart lives in basically blew up. Didnt have high cholesterol or history of heart problems. Totally fucked. Here one minute, gone the next.
Go to the doctor.
so this is probably karma for trying to be funny in a chest pain thread, but i have kinda had some moments of short breath the last week or so, and sometimes it feels like my heart is beating loudly. this isnt good is it? it's not bad though, most of the day im fine, completely normal.
just go and see your doctor asap and get some tests done. recently i ended up in ER panicking, thinking i was dying (no surprise with my lifestyle)... turned out it was costocondritis- inflammed rib cartilage. i've been getting it for years though (just not that bad), so either i'm highly sensitive or i'm stuck with it for life. which is a worry considering the symptoms are almost identical to a heart attack. gotta stay healthy!
I think it means you are going to die. You should probably live your remaining life to the max and drink some pepsi max with Sophie Monk.
