Did anyone else see a bouncer at the Tote punch a chick in the face last Thursday? I was leaving and I couldn't quite believe what I saw. Some chick, who was wasted and going hysterical because they wouldn't let her in copped a punch in the face by one of the bouncers!
I went over to her and asked her of she did indeed get punched because i still couldnt quite beleive what id seen and her friends confirmed it and had called the cops.
I went inside and the dude who threw the punch was talking to another bouncer ( must have been 4-6 of them there that night). I told one of the bar staff what had happened, he was shocked, none of the bouncers had told any if the staff what was going on. I pointed out the offender and bar dude said it was his first night. i told hin the cops were on their way and he quickly got on the phone to someone.
The cops came and I gave them my details and they had a chat to the chick who got punched then went to review security footage. Didn't hear any more about it.
The girl didn't seem to have any injuries so maybe it was a light tap, regardless this is totally unacceptable behaviour. Bouncers need to be able to turn drunk patrons away without assaulting them.
Would love to know what's happening with this guy.

A girl i'm friends with copped a punch in the face once at Beck's Festival Bar too. Though apparently she wasn't even drunk/argumentative, not sure what happened there.
I remember once getting kicked out of a place (really needlessly, it was literally for bopping my head in a queue to get into a gig), and the guy was getting such a kick out of it. Out of nowhere he twisted my arm behind my back and shoved me through a room and out onto the street. I think a lot of bouncers are thugs looking for violence... there seems to be no accountability at all in the industry.
Obviously, punching people is wrong, and it was right to report this incident, but it sounds like she might have provoked the bouncer first.
unless she was presenting an actual risk to their safety, though, they should be trained to show restraint and deal with the situation properly if they're gonna be bouncers.
That's about the same as saying that due to her wearing some skimpy outfit she deserved the ass rape down the alley.
exactly hellza, what are you thinking FT ?
There is no provocation for a big burly bouncer to punch a small blonde girl in the face. He is employed to stand in the way of the door and not let her through and give her a wry smile while she's mouthing off and call the police if she doesn't go away.
Obviously, punching people is wrong, and it was right to report this incident, but it sounds like she might have provoked the bouncer first.
oh please. what kind of a bullshit justification is that? i hope he got fired.
I wasn't condoning the bouncer's action, just pointing out that there was a lead-up to it, unlike the incidents esquared described. Given that, this guy will probably get off with a warning.
I agree some bouncers seem to be on a power trip, they are generally not smartest of individuals.
''They are generally not smartest of individuals.''
What a cunt of a thing to say! Whilst there may be some fuckwit bouncers out there you will also find fuckwits in every type of employment going. Some people are just fuckwits. There is also a LOT of awesome guards out there who put up with an amazlingly large amount of bullshit from fuckwit drunks. These guys get abused more than anyone I know so go easy. I in no way condone what happened on this night though.
what a scumbag. hope he's charged. there should be a way to bar these kind of people from working security
Briefly, to set the record straight:
Drunk, angry girl gets argy at the bouncers after refused entry after chucking racist slurs at the bouncers, charges the door, punches the security guard twice in the face and no he did not hit her in the face. Cops have reviewed all the CCTV footage and they are satisifed.
I told one of the bar staff what had happened, he was shocked, none of the bouncers had told any if the staff what was going on.
Managers were aware. Some bar staff hadn't been told because they were doing their jobs busy pouring beers and managers were dealing with the cops.
I pointed out the offender and bar dude said it was his first night.
Bullshit. I was standing right next to you when you were talking to him and the bar dude did not say that. This security dude is awesome.
i told hin the cops were on their way and he quickly got on the phone to someone.
He got on the intercom to the manager who was upstairs with the cops at the time.
God I love internet rumours.
what a scumbag. hope he's charged.
Cops have said that if any charges are to be laid, it's against the girl.
BAM Festival!
liamsnice, I meant the ones that are on a power trip, not bouncers on the whole. I've met smart/ interesting bouncers in my time also.
OMG, she was blonde? Are blonde girls weaker and less able to defend themselves? This flies in the face of all I know about aryan superiority.
The whole point of asking about it was to get some answers, no need to get pissy. I told things exactly as I saw them and also appreciate hearing another side of the story. This isn't about spreading vicious rumors, the Tote is my favorite pub in the world. Why would I not be trying to find out what happened having seen that?
There were other people there who saw her getting hit and said as much. If she didn't it sure looked like it. Footage doesn't lie though and if it was all her then charge her.
And yes, bar guy did tell me it was his first night. That's such an irrelevant and inconsequential part of the story, why would I make that up?
Bloody he'll you're easy to fly off the handle, I saw events as I saw them, what's wrong with a calm and measured clarification from your end?
If it's your favourite pub in the world and you want to know what happened, why not just call the place to find out instead of pushing some bogus comments online for shock factor? Just sayin'.
And here's me thinking Bouncer Incident is a great name for a band.
pass some popcorn this way ft
this shit would never happen south side where everyone respects each other's differences and gets on with their lives in a calm, easy manner.
s if the Titw staff would tell all.
''I need to know publican! But you don't understand; this is my favourite bar in the world!''
They weren't bogus facts at all, that was my exact recount of the night and everything I said actually happened. The ONLY point of contention is whether he hit her or vice versa and from my vantage point it looked like he hit her. I am willing to admit I got it wrong but that's nonetheless what I saw.
I don't go around posting bullshit for shock's sake. If my post appeared 'shocking' it's because I was genuinely shocked.
Like I said, I appreciate the clarification, just calm down, I'm not out to slander the Tote.
Whoops:
As if the Tote staff would tell all
I think we need to all calm down. There is no reason to let an ugly incident upset us and divide us. This place is normally a peaceful and supportive community.
Aggressive thoughts intensify anger, calming statements help equalize emotions. Substitute aggressive thoughts with calming ones like ''I can handle this,'' envision angry situations replaying the scenario while picturing yourself repeating his calming statement. Picture yourself maintaining control.
We can never erase anger from the spectrum of human emotions, but we can find new and healthier ways of dealing with it. In this age of pervasive violence, helping each other make new choices is essential.
Violence isn't always physical. Our words can also be violent. Let us turn our negative feelings into sympathy and send healing vibes to both the blonde girl and the bouncer. Plus our two friends on here, eho have now had a falling out over a simple misunderstanding.
Last night at the Tote a bouncer said to me, ''Oi, Block, you need to put that in plastic'', and offered me an empty pint glass to put my beer in. He then took my empty glass and stowed it away neatly before waving me through to the band room.
No one got punched.
I once saw a bouncer at the Tote touch Block's hair, poor dude is still in hospital. Best wishes Gazza, we're all rooting for ya xo
Actually, Hellza, you are the only person who has ever done that.
I find that kinda special.
xoxo
Awwww, I feel all giddy inside now xoxoxoxox
This is better. Let the love flow.
Block has short person issues. wonder what toadphoney would advise block - chin up?
Do I?
I always thought Blocks issues were more about connections and this is why he undertook the Future Warrior course.

Because when people touch your hair it may squash it and so diminish it's height. Or you feel they may be patronizing you when they ruffle your hair good-naturedly in a father to son manner
That may make some kind of sense, if it were possible to move a single strand of my hair without a jackhammer.
Hellza- see you in the shaman's sweat lodge after the tribal drumming and trust exercises.
I'll bring my power animal and chest hair freshly buffed.
Your hair is your suit of armor. I suggest as therapy you allow people to give you head massages, in public
From where I was when the incident happened it appeared as though the bouncer hit the chick, a couple of girls who were also leaving said they thought that's what they saw too, but it appears this is NOT what happened and I feel stupid for throwing support behind a racist trying to cause trouble.
What it seems I saw was the bouncer putting his arms out in front of him while she rushed into him. If I wasn't so adamant that I saw what I did I wouldn't have posted anything. I've witnessed plenty of cockhead bouncers at good venues in the past and believed this was another case but it wasn't.
Racism is just as bad as violence and if this girl has indeed stirred a bunch of shit, been a racist cunt and lied to the police about what has happened I hope she gets charged for it.
I have quite a deep wellspring of ''personal essence'' already, actually.
So really it's just some blonde racist chick.. I'm met her before..
Trevor Du Block, the new perfume from Calvin Klein.
I forgive you happycow, as do most of us here.
Is there any info on where you can do that future warrior course? A lot of that blurb describes me, but I would like to get a certificate to let others know and to make it official.
You can do said course at Metamorphosis Global Agencies in Healesville. Fun times guaranteed.
I wonder if they offer RPL. I reckon I can tick all the boxes without even visiting Healesville.
This ain't Tafe baby, this is real life!
Last night at the tote I tried to give the bouncer my glass to put into plastic but he didn't want it.
The end.
Also. Now I feel like popcorn.
Let's move on and drink some beer.
in 3 minutes time it will be appropriate to open the booze
jesus christ, how good would pop corn be right now
many bouncers are cunts, likewise drunk people. take 'em both to crown casino where that shit belongs.
back in the days of the old TOTE I was kicked out by the hugest bouncer I've encountered in my life for refusing to stop firing a cap gun in the front bar.
After chilling outside for a few minutes, I realised I didn't want to leave yet so I pulled my jumper over my head and crawled around on my hands and knees through the door knowing the massive guy was way to tall to notice something small on the carpet from that height for another half an our and even had the gall to d
rink a pint half underneath the pool table.
ha. that's awesome.
i got kicked out of pony for refusing to stop waving my plastic sword and talking like a pirate. very unfair.
once I actually got picked up by two bouncers on either side and carried out of a bar.
i was still standing at the time. they didn't pick me up off the floor. in case you were wondering.
Tony is a good bloke, chipped in quite a bit last Sunday the fundraiser. I do still have my security licence but don't want to use it (I don't need to at the moment thankfully.)
that's the girl?
