Do you have a particular artist that you go through a phase where you will just listen to them exclusively? How long does it last and does it happen often?

I feel another Neil Young binge coming on. It's gonna last weeks and drive everyone I know crazy. At least there's a lot to choose from...

I just had a month of that.

It was all Bowie, all the time.

I even listened to Heathen!

Whenever there is an Australian tour of a band I love, I tend to go a bit mental with their back catalogue in the lead up to the gig, and often in the weeks following it too.

Then I get over it and obsess about another artist/album/genre/whatever.

Hey, that's better than that album with Time Will Crawl on it.

I'm deep in an Eno rut at present and loving it.

I'm even gonna drag out landing on water, and fork in the road could get a listen

that was my last music binge!

Binge's I return to include Will Oldham, Jim O'Rourke, The Sea & Cake, Stones Throw style hip hop and curently I'm on a new release mixed with old school US House music binge.

I seem to be in a Nine Inch Nails phase which could easily tip towards Tom Waits.

its a constant

Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Rainbow Rising and Holy Diver

i am still bummed about DIO's passing

tactics (at least once a year, obsessive listening to entire catalogue)

laughing clowns (twice a year, ditto and also live bootlegs)

yeah, i do this (although after, not before) - sometimes i have gotten mildly miffed with an artist for never touring australia and avoided really getting into their work for a while - then splurged on their catalogue afterwards - neil young & pixies particularly remember doing this

I sometimes listen to nothing but Swans for weeks on end.

I've been listening to Gas's Konigsforst at bedtime for about a year straight.

The Smiths only sound good if I'm in the right mood, a mood that normally lasts a couple of weeks.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on that one Shaun. If you're not in the mood, they can sound really cloying and insipid!

I've got heaps, but I'm not telling who...

guess...

Charles Dumar  said about 1 year ago:

OK - Tom Waits and Modest Mouse are two.

My last one was Beyonce. Still dig it when I hear it, like other night waiting for a tram and I could hear ''single ladies'' booming out of some dance club. Maybe should have went for a dance... Will Oldham is easy, 'cause he hasn't released a bad record and there are so many of them

the cure, every 10 years or so (or when they tour, whichever comes first)
