Who are the band that you keep thinking will put out a great record again, all because they hit the jackpot once? I think Tricky did this with Maxinquaye and has raised our hopes every two years since.

Everytime $10 rolls into my account, I know I've done it.
Actually, I don't really have any hopes for them again.
Violent Femmes. i've given up on them ever doing anything of worth but the decline in quality of anything off the first album and everything else is amazing

you're
angelicIV, do you like PondRepellent? I'm starting to like him/her now that they're over their hipster thing
too many french film directors///..having said that 'burning bridges' gorgeous..embryo...green is the colour. etc..a lovely period of post-hippie comedown and better drug suppliers.
SpringRain - I aren't up to date on PondRepellent at the moment..I'll do some research (reading) and let you know..
Mike Oldfield.
He actually has some good albums other than Tubular Bells (Amarok springs to mind), but fuck me if he isn't living off that one album... and its endless re-iterations.
Are you serious? 'Welcome To Sky Valley' is their best.
You pick that over Incantations?
You are a strange dude, Raven.
I agree, though, the endless rehashes (and remasters) of TB MUST STOP NOW.
You could argue Tom Waits is living off two albums, one for each career arc - the cabaret wino and the old weird guy.
Was coming in here to say this, but as it's said, I'll nominate Oasis.
That... what... huh?
If you like Paranoid how can you not like Master of Reality? I mean, yes, Paranoid is genius, but Master of Reality is Paranoid without Paranoid and War Pigs and Lord of This World and Sweet Leaf instead!
Insane!
The Beatles
i would say siamese dream is the only 'great' smashing pumpkins record.. in my opinion it's in another class to their 'good' albums (gish/piscies/mellon collie)..
And they have been dining out on that record, or period, ever since..
good topic, what other sacred cows can we cut down?
how bout lou reed's solo career ;)
Sea Scouts
Smashing Pumpkins, Ariel Pink and Arcade Fire are all awful BTW
agree with Oasis.
yeah Oasis is a good one, but you could boil that down to Wonderwall.
Morrisey is living off a previous good band.
Radiohead - Pablo Honey
