I have a soft spot for Mark Lanegan since I nicked my username from one of his songs.

And yeah, uniquely awesome voice.

MurderInc.  said about 5 years ago:

Just saw him recently guesting with QOTSA on channel V and GOD was it good!

hwct  said about 5 years ago:

i bought one of of those ltd. ed posters you spoke of blake3030

the whiskey glass that says 'ding dong lounge' very cool.

Razzle  said about 5 years ago:

Anyone ever bother with the commentary on that live QOTSA dvd?
Josh Homme tells a funny story about the unbeatable badassness of Lanegan. About how when Homme was touring guitarist with the Screaming Trees he was standing talking to Lanegan and some guy walked up and said "Hello!" and Lanegan replied "No."
Totally shut down a completely warm open greeting.
Lanegan rules.
The man can do no wrong. He kills it solo, dueting, or just doing those wicked back up lines.
Plus he got Izzy fuckin' Stradlin to play on his last record.
'Nuff said.

seamonkeydisco  said about 5 years ago:

Listening to the winding sheet just now. so fucking awesome.
Lanegan is fucking awesome. Saw him at the gaelic club a couple of years ago, his voice literally made the building shake.

i was at the Gaelic. I passed out. My head hit the floor with a clunk.

How is that cool? That screams "wanker" to me.

His back-ups on the new Eagles of Death Metal album are ace.

.....the boy's bad news!!

joeboy  said about 5 years ago:

love lanegan... he just joined the twilight singers on their tour through europe.. hope all of them make it hear... his album with isobel campbell is also fucking ace.

Simon_Sez  said about 5 years ago:

I remember seeing the Screaming Trees at the BDO a while (read: years) ago. Lanegan looked like a dead man (bad gray colour), swigged relentlessly from a green whiskey bottle, then started to yell at some guy in the mosh - "Let him up here!" "I'll come down there and kick your ass" etc etc...

He then pegged a full two litre water bottle at the crowd, tried to get past the bouncers, pitched a couple of mike stands, then wrecked the drum kit and stormed offstage. The bass player said "Sorry, folks. He's an asshole." And that was the gig.

They played three songs. Rock'n'Roll!

It's a little known fact that Mark Lanegan is actually the last remaining T-800 Terminator.

joeboy  said about 5 years ago:

another little known fact that the soulsavers record is one of the best of the year..

lanegan has a lot to do with this obviously..

i will nominate revival as one of the best songs of the year.. the duet with will oldham is also awesome.. an amazing record all up really..

you can sample some tracks i think at www.myspace.com/soulsavers but the album is out, so just grab that.

flobs  said about 3 months ago:

Just pin a poster of him on the wall and listen to the album, ralph - same experience. He doesn't move all night.

illywhacker  said about 3 months ago:

Would you prefer it if he danced?

flobs  said about 3 months ago:

Anything would be better than standing motionless in the same pose all night, illywhacker

illywhacker  said about 3 months ago:

This attitude baffles me. He's a singer, you go to see and hear him sing. Same with the people who complain about performers not talking between songs. They're musicians, not stand-up comedians.

slothman  said about 3 months ago:

i guess some people like to see performers looking like they are enjoying themselves.

tangy_zizzle  said about 3 months ago:

Last show I saw him play is probably in my top 3 gigs of all time I reckon.

tangy_zizzle  said about 3 months ago:

You could hear that cliched pin drop while he played. Fucking incredible.

toadphoney  said about 3 months ago:

I reckon the new album is pretty pretty pretty good.

turkey_sandwich  said about 3 months ago:

yeah. i don't reckon a singer has to move to command your attention.. last lanegan show i saw was pretty good, does he still have that band that look like skid row members?

betamale  said about 3 months ago:

If this was one at the Corner with just him and a guitarist I'd agree, magic stuff - and he did seem to be enjoying himself for a change. Based on reports of the more recent tour with Isobell Campbell where it seems he was phoning in his performance I'm kind of glad I missed it.

The criticism levelled at his lack of stage presence is the reason I feel like I've now seen him enough times (in various guises) and won't bother again.

It's not like he just doesn't move much - more often than not his manner projects clearly that being on stage is actually a horribly unpleasant and tedious thing for him. More than a little buzz-killing when you're at a gig.

flobs  said about 3 months ago:

You summed it up perfectly, betamale (and slothman). The last time I saw him was at The Zoo on the same tour. He came, he sang perfectly, think he might have said 'Hello'' and 'Thank you' once, and left.

I don't expect witty banter, or stage antics; simply more than just literally standing in the same pose all night, singing with his eyes shut, without any outward expression of any emotion. I love his new album, but his live show, for me at least, doesn't offer anything above listening to his recordings at home. I wish it did.

gusseting  said about 3 months ago:

i'm just grateful he's still alive. every time i see him, i think...this. is. going. to. be. the. last. time.

tangy_zizzle  said about 3 months ago:

Yeah that's the one. :)

chickenchops  said about 3 months ago:

Love the new record. Love.

joeboy  said about 3 months ago:

Yep, blues funeral is so so good, I think i like it even more than bubblegum I think. It's also great to hear jack irons on the drummers stool again.

Recently picked up this print, which I've always loved...
