What am I going to do with all those anti-Sue McLelland t-shirts now?
Given their track record i’m not holding my breath for any change in direction from the Brumby and the Victorian government.
A new Bill, the Liquor Control Reform (Amendment) Bill 2010 which passed the assembly last week and will be debated by council soon proposes a number of changes to the liquor licensing system.
Bed and breakfasts, florists and gift maker businesses who supply alcohol as a minor part of their businesses will already no longer have to pay liquor licence renewal fees from 2011.
The new Bill proposes that the exemption be extended to hairdressers and butchers,
that pubs, bars and nightclubs must provide free drinking water, and that all staff at bars pubs and nightclubs must have a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
Good news for Follicles.
The Bill doesn't provide specific exceptions to protect smaller live music venues from being labelled high risk, but it is a sign the current Government are listening and its step in the right direction.

While its good news that places like Dr Follicles will now be able to keep selling alcohol i'm pretty disappointed overall with the bill, just seems another typical Vic govt, lets make it look like we are doing something.
The local inner city Labor Mp's have constantly reassured us that the government is listening etc etc but there is nothing in that bill which protects melbournes live music.
the government has won this for now by clever use of spin, timing of announcements, and pr. which is amazing given all the goodwill towards music venues, the slam rally etc. but while the legislation hasn't changed (which is the key thing), don't forget there's been a little win re liquor licensing dept. changes.
Bye, bye Richard Wynne, for one.
Who gets booze from the butcher? Odd.
one of those new age fancy butchers, buy a matching red for that steak you purchased.
There is a butcher I think in collingwood that don't take the cuts from the carcass until asked, then whilst they go slice the beast up you get a long neck to swig from. It's been there for a very long time.
