awesome lineup/poster.
Mmmmmmmmmm Turnpike.
If I wasn't already traveling elsewhere i'd be quite tempted.
This weekend.

8:30 The Entire Asian Population
9:30 Die On Planes
10:30 Cured Pink
11:30 Turnpike
*Room Of Glacial Abyss *
9:00 Ambrose Chapel
10:00 White Bears of Norway
11:00 AXXONN
12:00 No Anchor
Is that really the name of a band?
I like this!
I wish Turnpike would tour Melbourne again already.
Also, I wish I had an octopus for a head - and a nice overcoat.
(^o^)
d(>w<)b
Yes. The Entire Asian Population is a duo from Brisbane. They sound a bit like Earth 2.
Reports?
Fucking excellent.
I missed the Entire Asian Population and Ambrose Chapel.
Die On Planes were, um... trance music. Sonambulistic stoner rock? Instrumental three piece (g/b/d) with repetitive looping riffs. Top notch.
White Bears Of Norway were excellent. (2gtr/kb/b/d) In my opinion sounded like the less dirgey and more melodic Sabotage era Sabbath crossed with MBV. A similar report said Norwegian Black Metal crossed with MBV. Either way. MBV are mating with someone there. I haven't worked out if this is actually the Rational Academy wearing different pants or not. Anyone? Did about twenty-five minutes of mostly slow and drifting songs witha couple of fast numbers.
Cured Pink was fantastic. One dude with a bass guitar with sampled beats (like.. one beat, over and over, sounded like someone smacking a piece of sheet metal with a mic) mostly punching the bass and putting into the ceiling fan and scratching it with metal and shrieking a whole bunch. Whitehouse, Suicide and the really fucking cool parts of the Crass albums nobody listens to because they fiddling with scratching noisey shit and radio noise and don't go ''Oi! Oi! Oi!''
Axxonn sounded like John Carpenter soundtracks reduced to one chord change per minute played through a distortion pedal. With a smoke machine.
Turnpike were Turnpike. If anyone hasn't seen them you obviously need to do so. (g/b/d been playing for like 103 years now) Also, watching drunk people trying to dance to Turnpike is great, especially the people who go to noise gigs as they generally lack the rhythm to dance to 4/4 music, let alone the stuff Turnpike play.
No Anchor laid waste. They are now the best rock band in Brisbane. /thread
(I have at least 30 seconds of each set and will be uploading it to my YouTube channel once YouTube stops being a bitch and lets me upload things. Did I mention YouTube is a bitch.)
Field Operative Noneabove signing out.
I've had the pleasure of seeing Die On Planes before, quite impressive. Cured Pink sounds like my kind of outing, any known recordings available?
And yes, about the only shitcrumb of Brisbane that I actually miss is Turnpike, especially the banter.
Top work comrade Noneabove, see you on the Ho Chi Minh.
Cured Pink myface has some recordings, but if you can listen to myface without it dropping out, hijacking your sound or generally being a pain in the arse to make it worth your while good luck to you. He said he has a cassette coming out via Sabbatical. Playing the Make It Up Club in a few weeks.
That's Cambodia, Captain.
die on planes were fucking incredible! seriously amazinggggg in that small room, fkng killed my ears too. i was in the room before they started and i liked how they just walked in, said ''yeah okay'' and started with only a couple of people waiting. those first 5 minutes were the best
Cured Pink (-ex Radio) has been around for years in various formations/collabs. he's got a tape out very soon on the sabbatical label (i think he's given out some recordings before not sure. i've got a demo/whatever from 2008) i loved his brief guitar/drum form last year. those shows were brvtal
wished no anchor played in the small room. with a smoke machine. damn their set lingered on toward the end.........
Wow this sounds like a perfect place for my new band 'Jewish Mind Control' to play.
i'm offended by some of your band names. what happened to the elegant classics like Boys II Men and East-17?
noneabove's description of Cured Pink makes me think this would be right up my alley. Please let us know when you've uploaded this footage!
oh yeah, noneabove: white bears are essentially rational academy but with extra members. their sound is flipped inside-out from the poppy love that is RA and into what you heard. i wasn't into it last night but i saw them last year in that same exact spot but with Ian (NA) and Laurence (Room40) - that shit was pretty damn good! way more 50-tonne layered dronnning and less structured.
frankie, check out youtube and some select local brisbane blogs. there's videos + live audio recordings around.........
Cured Pink playing Make It Up Club June 29th in collaboration with Grover and Leith!
Shit... I have to see this!
Wonderful, I'll be there!
Myspace stuff is magnificent.
Full VIC tour dates:
“Cured Pink is a discomposed mess of underdeveloped ideas, glorifying civil sickness before finding anything that actually sounds good. Self-releasing hand-made material out of Brisbane for the last few years, the mess, usually summed as ''psychotic performance art'', ''post-industrial noise bliss'' or ''bored at 3am'', appears to have its strengths in the alienation of pub owners, the forcing of early closures and alienation of most band members. Maybe it is just irritating”.
Sabbatical presents the first release by this constantly evolving Brisbane based project overseen by Andrew McLellan. To launch this self-titled limited run cassette release Sabbatical provides three opportunities for Melbourne residents to witness Cured Pink live.

I would if YouTube would actually upload it. The uploads time out every time. YouTube is shit. Did I mention that?
:(
Pretty sure most of the evening was recorded. Check here over the next week or so
Really glad I dragged myself out of hermit-ville to go to this. Just wish I'd gotten there earlier for The Entire Asian Population, Ambrose Chapel and Die On Planes.
Some Cured Pink live audio on ekj's blog already from April
White Bears of Norway from last night. A full song by Cured Pink going up now. Excerpts of Turnpike and Die On Planes coming too.
My YouTube channel.
Cured Pink is up.
Magnificent!
haha there I am. jumping out of the way before he hits me
some girl was looking at me like i was a dick because i was laughing at some of his antics. jeez calm down girl, there's a little bit of humour in there MATE
Thanks a bunch to everyone who played and came to this event (and Die On Planes + White Bears Of Norway who braved Toowoomba with us the night before).
It was a good night. Everyone played well and strangely everyone played bang on time meaning that 8 bands all got their stuff done without drama. I can't remember that last time I went to a show that started at 8pm that ran on time til 1am.
How was toowoomba? OUr only toowoomba mission got cancelled BEFORE we got there!
Donnie got hassled by local retards literally within a minute of walking out onto the street. But again, there is retards everywhere. I quite like Toowoomba. It doesn't quite pay off every time in terms of $$$ or good times but I've been playing up there at least once a year since I started playing.
Toowoomba is good some nights and meh the next. So just like every other small town (and Brisbane as well). Last time we played there it was beer sprayed mess of a show. This time it was people sitting up the back trying to talk at 118 db with coffees. Number or payers was pretty good though. Cookie who books shit up there is 100% A +++
Thanks to everyone and Noneabove for video upload - was good show and bummed when I thought it went unrecorded (Eternal Souncheck busy with other show). Will be posting it around.
Really good night me thought. Let's do it again.
Cured Pink Cassette out through Sabbatical will have release show in Brisbane July 18 (Om dates just announced which clash for most of you but mine is an afternoon gig at Burst City nearby, so try making both).
Thanks FrankieT, yes there are a heap of shows later this month in Melbourne for Sabbatical.

fukkkk they looked nice but i only had a few bucks on me...
For those who missed it, you can download the audio from this truly awesome evening here
They're made by a guy I know. Circuit bent toys. If you want his details, PM me and I should be able to pass them on.
Did you get my message noneabove?
Yes I did. See reply.
