O.K. this is the thread for news of the vegan, preferably the happenings in Melbourne and Sydney. There only seems to be news posted in the cooking thread so a new one is warranted. No clogging this up with lame arguments either, do that in the myriad of other M & N super threads.

Aaaaand again!

Las Vegan's started selling some awesome sweets made by a couple of rad chicks from Melbs.

This week: Emma Bloom's Choc-Chip Peanut Butter Cookies (gluten freeeeeee!), as well as her Vegan Vanilla Slice.

And Sasha's Double Choc Fudge Cookies, with all proceeds going to Edgar's Mission. If you're quick, you'll pick up one of the four with vegan marshmallow in 'em. Nom.

Both the cookies are fucken awesome. I'm yet to try the vanilla slice but have been assured that it rules!

PS: Yes I work at LV, so this is technically a plug, but we receive no $$ for the cookies, so It kinda isn't :P DON'T HATE ME!!!

moo-core  said about 1 year ago:

No $$ for the vanilla slice either, for that matter.

Making the change from vego to vegan tomorrow. I thought I might get some
last minute tips and tricks for the beginner. The start of thread III seems fitting.

Vegan-friendly cafe by ex-Tofu Shop chef.
We blogged about it.
Pretty good food, coffee is okay.

moo-core  said about 1 year ago:

I've been meaning to go there, seeing as I'm just around the corner for half the week.

Hellzapoppin  said about 1 year ago:

Is that the joint near the St Georges rd roundabout?

moo-core  said about 1 year ago:

Hellzapoppin  said about 1 year ago:

Haha, I was reading about American councils using google earth to find such rate evasions just the other day.

I can honestly say I have never made an honest tax claim in my life. Perhaps Greece is the place for me.

I expect the total lack of surprise when the real estate agent discovered my housemate had built a double bowl BMX ramp in yard is related to that.

Mrs tugboat bought Linda McCartney sausage rolls from Radical Grocery last night.
Awesome.

postergirl  said about 1 year ago:

Are any of you vegans also gluten intolerant? That must be so hard. What do you eat? I'm awaiting the results of a blood test for coeliac with trepidation right now.

tugboat  said about 1 year ago:

Mrs Tugboat is.

Read from this post on. We can still enjoy good food but g/f bread is so pricy and fucken rank.

postergirl  said about 1 year ago:

Thanks tugboat. If I do test positive it is going to be hard, especially as I am about to go overseas for an extended period and it will difficult enough trying to find my way around full stop let around trying to find suitable food outlets. On the plus side I'm going to a place where people will be pretty au fait (nay obsessed) with this stuff.

Sadly I will not be able to go to this place whatever happens as it is essentially Skid Row!

tugboat  said about 1 year ago:

Skid Row?

postergirl  said about 1 year ago:

The most dangerous urbanised area in the world! (TM)

It may actually be just outside it so perhaps I can gingerly venture there.

I was just in L.A. a month ago, you will have no prob at all. If you want cheap easy food go to Trader Joes, I got hooked on their food bigtime. They have PDF's of what is gluten free and/or vegan. Wholefoods have an awesome range, but it isn't nicknamed ''whole paycheck'' for nothing.

tugboat  said about 1 year ago:

Discobeanscafe is now doing mock meat. Fried in Japanese way. Go eat the vegan cashew creme brulee! Only two days left!

peaches sp  said about 1 year ago:

Oh, I miss Trader Joes.

unvisible  said about 1 year ago:

This thread's eating posts. Looks like it's time for a new one.

postergirl  said about 1 year ago:

Trader Joe's sounds great!
