What happened to My Disco playing with Chase/Misterka?

labrish: unfortunately we had to amend that because of My Disco going to Europe, and schedules being really tight for them around that time. We're spewin about them not being able to play, but totally chuffed they'll be back in Europa.

a funny op piece on citysearch:

The Melbourne International Jazz Festival supports and showcases all aspects of the genre. And there's certainly plenty of variety to be found under the musical umbrella that comprises modern jazz. What began in the 1920s has since spawned countless offshoots and sub genres. These days you'll find old-fashioned Dixie sits alongside avante garde, grindcore, big band, contemporary classical and a whole lot more. The Melbourne International Jazz Festival's Overground event showcases all these different aspects.

Held at the Melbourne town hall, Overground hosts a variety of world-class acts in the building's various nooks and crannies. Among the highlights this year are legendary European free-jazz improvisers Peter Brotzmann and Han Bennink, Brian Chase of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with saxophonist Seth Misterka, and much-loved local trio My Disco. Unlike most jazz events, it's a genuinely mixed bag of acts and influences incorporating traditional and contemporary elements. Case in point, Brotzmann has been performing since the late '60s and has five decades worth of releases to his name. On the opposite side of the coin, Brian Chase is a drummer with a popular indie band. But it's this diversity that makes Melbourne International Jazz Festival Overground such a highlight and an event not to be missed.

not sure i should say this, but we were angling to have a collaboration between Bum Creek and Mulatu Astatke. now, that would've been gig of the century! unfortunately didn't work out in the end.

bxckxtrxdxr  said about 1 year ago:

I believe that the Kim Salmon/Dave Brown duo will be incorporating Kim's recent experiments with dual tape machines.
