Alasdair Roberts Northcote Social Club May 7

Needyneddy  said about 1 year ago  or at  3:04PM on Thursday, April 8 2010 in events

First time Alasdair Roberts has toured Australia ...
May 7 at Northcote. With special guests

Scottish folk icon Alasdair Roberts is headed to Australia for the first time in support of his latest album Spoils - listed by The Wire magazine as one of the best records of 2009.

Over the past decade or so, Alasdair Roberts has carved out a unique space for himself in contemporary music from the British Isles. Born and raised in Scotland, Roberts is a master of re-envisaging traditional songs - taking the roots of his geographic heritage and re-imagining them with a conviction and vigour that is quite simply like no other.

His recorded output, which started as Appendix Out in the late 1990s has born witness to numerous collaborations and productions with the likes of Will Oldham and Sean O'Hagen (High Llamas) amongst others. For his first tour of Australia, Roberts draws from his vast song book of esoteric ballads, unfolding fables and haunted fingerpicking to present a collection of truly individual and engaged songwriting.

Melbourne supports from the beautiful Laura Jean and Francis Plagne.

runoutgroove  said about 1 year ago:

Great choice of Laura Jean for the support. Its killing me that I may be out of town for the Sydney show. Been listening to No Earthly Man over the past few days. Great record. Would be absolutely fantastic to get to the Canberra show on 3 May too, nice cold evening in Canberra....could almost be in Glasgow....

For anyone in Canberra, Alasdair will be playing at the Street Theatre foyer (not The Front Cafe & Gallery as mentioned on much of the promo) on Monday 3rd May and he will be supported by local dirge-folksters Voss. Starts 8pm, tixs $10 at the door!

I'm going to deep fry everything I eat on Monday just to see if that's the case.
