this just hit my inbox:

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Dear GOODGODers,

It is with great confusion and sadness that we must tell you GOODGOD Small Club will be on a momentary hiatus.

From last Sunday we have been unable to access our space and have only been met with uncertain answers as to when we can return.

With regret this weekend and next weekend's events are being relocated to other venues.

We are confident that this should only be a short term disruption. GOODGOD has not passed - it is only on pause.

In the meantime, we reflect and thank the dedicated community of amazing people that make GOODGOD what it is.

We hope that with your continuing support we will have the club open and raring to go before we know it!

Please direct any messages of support or queries to info@goodgodgoodgod.com

With much love from the Small Club team...

Jimmy Sing

that doesn't sound promising.

is this another forced venue closure in the works?

goldfoot  said about 1 year ago:

Damn. Hope it's only temporary. Great room.

For anyone who was going to Saturday Night Fish Fry it's been moved to Bright'n Up

Huggz  said about 1 year ago:

I don't think I can say too much on the situation but it's all because of a problem going on with the Licensee/La Campana.
Really hoping this is only going to be a short hiatus and that the club will be back to normal in no time.

GoodGod is definitely the best thing to happen to Sydney in quite awhile.

rosevich  said about 1 year ago:

i had a sneaking suspicion it was a licensing fiasco.

GodDamn!

If someone could help re-locate the Kitchen's Floor and Bed Wettin' Bad Boys 7'' launch April 17. Has an uncle with a pub who'd like to sell heaps of beer etc let me know. Soemthing like this would be GREAT:

All details here:

I've emailed a bunch of places already, just trying to get it sorted asap.

rosevich  said about 1 year ago:

Hellen Rose LabOratorium would be great (but they haven't put on anything in ages)

gunshot_glitter  said about 1 year ago:

Damn shame. I really like this venue.

tenzenmen  said about 1 year ago:

no more shows at hellen rose, rosevich

rosevich  said about 1 year ago:

bummer.

__v  said about 1 year ago:

probably not sydney's finest hour right now

the good & gone places are outnumbering the still struggling on places by an uncomfortable ratio

__v  said about 1 year ago:

if that sentence makes the slightest bit of sense

kittymunroe  said about 1 year ago:

God dammit Sydney.

With every venue that closes I pack an extra bag. Fucken!

tenzenmen  said about 1 year ago:

why everyone is so negative? the OPs seem to indicate that alternative venues have been found (except for nic) and that things should be back to normal soon.

kittymunroe  said about 1 year ago:

I guess we're just tired of things shutting down.

That, and due to recent events maybe some of us are worried that things in fact won't return to normal...

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

this is the new normal.

goldfoot  said about 1 year ago:

why everyone is so negative?

I think it's because we've lost so many venues recently and everyone knows how much of a struggle it is to keep places like this running that everybody automatically thinks the worst.

Hopefully that's not the case in this instance.

nic.rulz  said about 1 year ago:

Goodgod will power on in some form or another. Since looking into re-locating the launch there are more potential spaces that I would've thought, just trying to fnd one that is free.

kittymunroe  said about 1 year ago:

Well I really truly do hope that things get back up and running sooner rather than later.

rosevich  said about 1 year ago:

nic.rulz, let us know if we can help!

shortrockus  said about 1 year ago:

you know what's wrong? so many sydney venues are closing down lately and unlike melbourne, sydney hasn't really done anything. i reckon there needs to be a save live australia music branch in sydney to be set up because this is just too much.

timewaster  said about 1 year ago:

Absolutely. You gotta protest.

Does Club 77 still hold live gigs?

Seems like the Oxford Art Factory is the only venue that's ever recommended to me....

tenzenmen  said about 1 year ago:

i seem to remember club 77 doing shows again recently.

Kit  said about 1 year ago:

Absolutely. You gotta protest.

To whom? If this is a problem on the restaurant's end, are you going to march on the lunch setting and demand they travel back in time several years and get themselves sorted for having DJs and bands underneath? It was a shame when the Spanish Club over the road got shut down after only having ''indie rock'' type gigs for a few months, but as it was because they'd been running illegally for 40 years or whatever, you can't really fulminate against the licensing board for just getting around to noticing.

The Maurice Fulton show next Saturday has moved to Gilligans, incidentally.

jsing  said about 1 year ago:

hey friends thanks for all the support. all of us at goodgod are still holding confidence that the club has not passed - it is just on pause. everyone can rest assured that it is not because of any licensing issue that we have been unable to access the venue.
if we are not able to return to liverpool st then we will be searching for another spot to open up because as all of us know, sydney only needs more friendly spaces.. not less.

again, thanks for the kind words and offers of support - we hope everyone on this board can join us for some beers at the relocated R.I.P. Society gigs: sat april 17 at friend in hand, glebe for the bedwetting bad boys / kitchen's floor / holy balm AND sun april 25 to 202 broadway for royal headache / dead farmers / dick diver. awesome lineups must go on!

cheers jimmy sing

ccmotions  said about 1 year ago:

great to hear this jimmy sing, it sounds as though Goodgod will be living in - no matter the venue

to everyone else being down re venues, there are a lot of great potential spaces around, in the last month or so I myself have had meetings and got interest from 6 new places to put on some live music...

the problem is NOT that there is not a lack of venues, nor potential spaces, there is a lack of people going to venues and shows
+ a sadly a lack of people willing/with enough time to put on shows/pay for gear etc

if i had more time and could afford it - the people of sydney would have 6 new places to go see live music BUT how many people would actually go to these things...?

it's the same issue over and over. Sydney has it pretty good in terms of licensing - especially since the POPE license was abolished, and yet people still whinge and moan about venues closing INSTEAD OF ACTUALLY GOING TO MORE GIGS

once again i point people to the Fbook group i started late last year,
I Want Live Music Venues - So I Go To Gigs
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=156915265982

the group now has nearly 3,500 members, and a lot of people as admins posting gig info & promoting but how many of those 3,500 go to even 1 gig a week? 1 a month?

Sydney will ALWAYS be behind in supporting live music, because far to many people dont understand that they need to vote with their feet.

Get out there, go to more gigs and prove you give a damn about live music

p.s
sorry to hi-jack this thread with a live scene rant - but it seems necessary
Goodgood, like a lot of other fixtures on the Sydney scene, is not Goodgood because of the venue, but because of the people who run it and support it. it will be fine as long as that support continues on in a new location

d'you think the vibe of nights like Tim Sweeney's first tour, or the Revenge/Motorcitysoul double-double-header, had nothing to do with the room and its location?

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

it's coming back, same location.

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

We're coming back.

Just when it looked like there was no hope left to re-establish Goodgod Small Club, we've been granted a precious new lease on life.

Yes, Goodgod will be opening at the same location.

There's much to do - and there may be a fundraiser or two - but stick with us and we'll have the city a new public bar and late night cantina... and of course, our beloved Small Club danceteria back jumpin' again.

The whole joint won't be up and running for a few months but stay tuned for a few warm-up gigs from late July.

tenzenmen  said about 1 year ago:

jeez - did jimmy buy the place??

tenzenmen  said about 1 year ago:

looks like he did!

esquared  said about 1 year ago:

Ron  said about 1 year ago:

Can anyone hook a brother up with a contact number for this place?

tenzenmen  said about 1 year ago:

Ron  said about 1 year ago:

OK, thanks tzman.
