Favourite ever pop songs

Modi  said about 1 year ago  or at  12:33PM on Thursday, March 18 2010 in music

All this hoo ha about Gaga has got me thinking about pop. What pop songs do you still play/hum/sing in the shower/get stuck in your head?

Two spring to mind for me, which are Monday Monday by the Mamas & the Papas, which pops into my head pretty much weekly, and 8 miles high by the byrds, which I often get stuck in my head.

Fast car Driving by INXS pops up reasonably frequently. But I am not sure if they are my favourites, or just the catchiest.

I knew this song for years before knowing what it was actually saying. True pop genius to get stuck in peoples' heads on purely catchy music.

the guy is fucking amazing

i would give both bollocks to write such clever yet rocking songs

Modi  said about 1 year ago:

Later Fleetwood Mac deserve a mention for catchy as fuck hooks.

Also Hall & Oates, but be warned, do not ever listen to a full album of theirs. Evil, evil shit.

Arthurly  said about 1 year ago:

I disagree Modi - take a listen to the least know Hall & Oates album ''War Babies'' produced by and featuring the wackiness and blistering guitar of Todd Rundgren!

''This is a phenomenal effort. It plays like a Rundgren album, but it's far more melodic. Who would have know that John Oates could write a song as good as TR with ''Can't Stop the Music.''

While Hall & Oates fans will continue to cry ''Heresy!'' the music's sensibilities are truly in the Philly-soul vein with a cosmic TR tinge. It makes the record that much more interesting. God forbid they simply re-tread ''Abandoned Luncheonette'' and not grow as artists.

''Beanie G. and The Rose Tattoo'' is phenomenal. Almost Prog-ish, with a tricky time signature and all.

Daryl has always had a caustic side, as witnessed in his chef d'ouvre that is ''Sacred Songs.'' Who would've known he was a Rock star, of all things!

This will be easier to digest for those who are already accustomed to Rundgren's work. While the production is all TR, the songs are pure Hall & Oates, despite all the window dressing.

Give it a chance!''

there is nothing i hate more than a remixed 80s song. unless its scritti politti.

Arthurly  said about 1 year ago:

Yes, but they are remixes done at the time of the release ie: in the 80's! Trust me - they're great.

JRB  said about 1 year ago:

Nothing can save Hall & Oates from being pure shit. Sorry.

On the other hand, latter day Genesis has its moments.

JRB  said about 1 year ago:

''''have their moments'' as it were.

Jackbratt  said about 1 year ago:

Mo, can you please tell loungey she is acting like a child.

Modi  said about 1 year ago:

As pop goes, H&O were at the top of their game, but it's so patchy if you listen to the stuff that were never hits.

But, I have not heard that record, Arthurly, and am open minded enough to give it a spin.

Jackbratt  said about 1 year ago:

Terence Trent D’Arby – Sign Your Name
