Heavy Elements  said about 1 year ago  or at  1:43AM on Thursday, March 11 2010 in chat

Canadian born actor Corey Haim, 38, who's starred in dozens of film and TV movies, has lost his battle with drugs.

Best known for his feature role in the Joel Schumacher 1987 vampire film, The Lost Boys, he starred alongside other names of his generation, Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland.

Haim began acting lessons as a child after by his mother enrolled in classes trying to help him overcome shyness.

Haim first broke into mainstream acting playing the role of Larry in the Canadian family oriented comedy television series, The Edison Twins, which ran from 1982 through until 1986.

Despite a constant flow of work, his battle with shyness and anxiety only grew and in 2000 he confessed to taking around 85 Valium a day to calm his nerves.

By 2004, Haim appeared to have finally overcome his drug habit, saying: '''I'm clean, sober, humble and happy.''

He will be remembered for the dozens of films and TV movies he appeared in from The Edison Twins in 1982 right through to The Girl and The Pick Up this year.

I heard a dedication to him on RRR just now. Idiotic.

Second rate child actor morphed into sad fourth rate adult actor. The best thing about him was as a punchline in the Simpsons.

ouch

Punch  said about 1 year ago:

i don't think it's about what he is (was) now. it's about how many teens hearts he won when he was young. no one's heard much about him since the 80s and he certainly never ever changed the world. he's just fueled a few teen fantasies. let the 80s kids cry.

outerspacextrapnel  said about 1 year ago:

I was an eighties kid. Even I knew the films weren't that good when I was watching them. I really wanted to watch more Corey films, but was never allowed. Looks like my parents might have been right.

38, life's great. The pressure of growing up, pushing 40, trying to plan a sustainable future but hold onto your youth.

I'm sure he had significant periods of his life where he behaved like a self-absorbed asshole but news of his death is quite sad to me.

RIP

I'm sure his mother is devastated.

Actor Corey Haim dead at 38

LOST Boys heartthrob Corey Haim has died today, aged 38.

The Canadian actor was found unresponsive at his apartment in the Oakwood area of Los Angeles overnight after a suspected accidental drug overdose.

The actor was taken by ambulance to St Joseph's hospital in Burbank, where he was pronounced dead.

While the LA coroner's office has yet to carry out a post-mortem, there was no evidence of foul play.

Haim had flu-like symptoms before he died and was getting over-the-counter and prescription medications, Sgt William Mann of the LAPD said.

''He could have succumbed to whatever (illness) he had or it could have been drugs. Who knows?'' Mann said.

''He has had a drug problem in the past.''

His grieving mother Judy told RadarOnline.com: ''I am a cancer victim and Corey was helping me at home. He was a good boy. I'm devastated by his death.''

Haim found fame in the 80s when he co-starred in a number of films, including the 1987 cult vampire film The Lost Boys, with Corey Feldman which led them to be dubbed ''The Two Coreys''.

Paying tribute tonight, Feldman said: ''This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend.

''We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference.

''Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived.''

In the 90s, Haim slipped into obscurity after several films went straight to video without a cinematic release, and spent time in and out of rehab receiving treatment for a prescription drug problem.

Haim acknowledged his struggle with drug abuse to The Sun in 2004.

''I was working on Lost Boys when I smoked my first joint,'' he said.

''I did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack.''

The actor said he went into rehabilitation and was put on prescription drugs. He took both stimulants and sedatives such as Valium.

In 2007, he told ABC's Nightline that drugs hurt his career.

''I feel like with myself I ruined myself to the point where I wasn't functional enough to work for anybody, even myself. I wasn't working,'' he said.

''I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck.

''But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day - the doctors could not believe I was taking that much.

''And that was just the Valium - I'm not talking about the other pills I went through.''

In 2007, he made a return to the limelight when Haim and Feldman were reunited on reality show The Two Coreys.

In an interview on CNN's Larry King Live that same year, Haim called himself ''a chronic relapser for the rest of my life''.

At the height of his fame, Haim dated Drew Barrymore and Alyssa Milano.

Writing on her Twitter today, Milano said: ''Just woke up to the sad, sad news that Corey Haim passed away. RIP sweet boy.''

The actor briefly dated Victoria Beckham before she hit the big time with the Spice Girls.

But Posh says the relationship was never consummated: ''We didn’t have sex or anything. In actual fact, he didn’t seem to want to try. The most we did was kiss.''

Meanwhile, Haim said Beckham was a rubbish kisser and used to chew his lip.

to the people who sit here and bag drug addicts. you guys a realy the ones who need to vanish or fade away....one thing i know about drug addicts is most of them have compassion and thats something non drug addicts dont have, i bet if it was your daughter or son or mother or father then it would be a different story wouldnt it....such losers , you should never speak ill of the dead.also the reason he faded away and went to the drug life was because he was molested as a child star and couldnt quite come to terms with the fact people knew and no one helpped him....not even his good mate corey feldman...thats why they fell out........learn some diggnity ...learn to realise not critasise

SallySimpson  said about 1 year ago:

I genuinely did think he was already dead.

jimmy, what important moment did corey do, exactly? What is it that you'll miss? How did Corey Haim contribute to your day to day happiness?

Kit  said about 1 year ago:

A post-mortem will be held to determine the cause of death although it is suspected he died of a drug overdose. No ''illicit'' drugs were found in his apartment but prescription pills were.

However, Feldman is insisting that although Haim had battled with drug addictions for most of his life (Haim admitted to discovering drugs while making 'The Lost Boys' in 1987) and that he was once forced to put charcoal down Haim's throat while he was overdosing, he was clean and sober since moving in with his mother, who had been diagnosed with cancer, four years ago.

I always imagined corey's demise would be death by stereo.

Kit  said about 1 year ago:

Feldman, now The One Corey, was not invited to Haim's funeral but managed to find his own way to pay tribute to his friend in an LA tattoo parlour.

''On the day of his funeral I felt like I should mark him on my body forever... now we're matching.''

Apparently the tattoo depicts a hot air balloon, featuring the name of Feldman's son, Zen, being lifted into the clouds. You're probably wondering what that has to do with Corey Haim. We'll let the living Corey explain for himself:

''The basket's got my son's name in it. And then I'm putting his eyes underneath it, so it's kind of like his eyes are lifting up the basket which is going into the clouds.''
