Canadian born actor Corey Haim, 38, who's starred in dozens of film and TV movies, has lost his battle with drugs.
Best known for his feature role in the Joel Schumacher 1987 vampire film, The Lost Boys, he starred alongside other names of his generation, Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland.
Haim began acting lessons as a child after by his mother enrolled in classes trying to help him overcome shyness.
Haim first broke into mainstream acting playing the role of Larry in the Canadian family oriented comedy television series, The Edison Twins, which ran from 1982 through until 1986.
Despite a constant flow of work, his battle with shyness and anxiety only grew and in 2000 he confessed to taking around 85 Valium a day to calm his nerves.
By 2004, Haim appeared to have finally overcome his drug habit, saying: '''I'm clean, sober, humble and happy.''

But today, KABC-TV in Los Angeles reported Haim was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank but was pronounced dead at 3:30 a.m. (PST).
He will be remembered for the dozens of films and TV movies he appeared in from The Edison Twins in 1982 right through to The Girl and The Pick Up this year.
Keep on shreddin' the studes, Corey

whatever happened to corey feldman? do we predict he's gonna go down too?
surprising he lasted so long really.
Feldman is fighting fit... check out the reality show The Two Coreys if you really wanna see how their paths diverged over the years. Comedy gold.
Oh, and RIP. One Lost Boy down.
wow. i'm also surprised he made it this far. poor fella.
Kiefer Sutherland is around 38? he looks old.
last seen wearing in dark shades, military jacket and a fedora at MJs funeral
poor corey
Jesus, that's some fucking extreme calming.
Vale the Coreys.
I heard a dedication to him on RRR just now. Idiotic.
Second rate child actor morphed into sad fourth rate adult actor. The best thing about him was as a punchline in the Simpsons.
ouch
i don't think it's about what he is (was) now. it's about how many teens hearts he won when he was young. no one's heard much about him since the 80s and he certainly never ever changed the world. he's just fueled a few teen fantasies. let the 80s kids cry.
I was an eighties kid. Even I knew the films weren't that good when I was watching them. I really wanted to watch more Corey films, but was never allowed. Looks like my parents might have been right.
oh for fuck's sake, license to drive and dream a little dream are up there with gone with the wind and casablanca, surely
i thought he was the coolest person in the world when i saw lost boys. my first minor mancrush?
license to kill?
imdb has him working on a shit load of forthcoming films
CGI is a wonderful thing.
Gory.
Story.
Allegory.
Montessori.
Too soon?
Hmmm...Let's check out the newspaper. Canada stalls on trade pact.
sad news, but this headline was gold...
''Actor Corey Haim dies of overdose in California, Corey Feldman devastated''
I think you'll find the correct term is ''injured''.
poor corey.
i'm with you punch, i loved dream a little dream and licence to drive. the coreyx2 combo was magic.
38, life's great. The pressure of growing up, pushing 40, trying to plan a sustainable future but hold onto your youth.
I'm sure he had significant periods of his life where he behaved like a self-absorbed asshole but news of his death is quite sad to me.
RIP
I'm sure his mother is devastated.
I have no idea how I managed to subscribe to the online updates from the daily telegraph & even less of an idea how to unsubscribe, however the final sentence in this article makes it worth the fluff pieces alone.
Actor Corey Haim dead at 38
LOST Boys heartthrob Corey Haim has died today, aged 38.
The Canadian actor was found unresponsive at his apartment in the Oakwood area of Los Angeles overnight after a suspected accidental drug overdose.
The actor was taken by ambulance to St Joseph's hospital in Burbank, where he was pronounced dead.
While the LA coroner's office has yet to carry out a post-mortem, there was no evidence of foul play.
Haim had flu-like symptoms before he died and was getting over-the-counter and prescription medications, Sgt William Mann of the LAPD said.
''He could have succumbed to whatever (illness) he had or it could have been drugs. Who knows?'' Mann said.
''He has had a drug problem in the past.''
His grieving mother Judy told RadarOnline.com: ''I am a cancer victim and Corey was helping me at home. He was a good boy. I'm devastated by his death.''
Haim found fame in the 80s when he co-starred in a number of films, including the 1987 cult vampire film The Lost Boys, with Corey Feldman which led them to be dubbed ''The Two Coreys''.
Paying tribute tonight, Feldman said: ''This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend.
''We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference.
''Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived.''
In the 90s, Haim slipped into obscurity after several films went straight to video without a cinematic release, and spent time in and out of rehab receiving treatment for a prescription drug problem.
Haim acknowledged his struggle with drug abuse to The Sun in 2004.
''I was working on Lost Boys when I smoked my first joint,'' he said.
''I did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack.''
The actor said he went into rehabilitation and was put on prescription drugs. He took both stimulants and sedatives such as Valium.
In 2007, he told ABC's Nightline that drugs hurt his career.
''I feel like with myself I ruined myself to the point where I wasn't functional enough to work for anybody, even myself. I wasn't working,'' he said.
''I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck.
''But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day - the doctors could not believe I was taking that much.
''And that was just the Valium - I'm not talking about the other pills I went through.''
In 2007, he made a return to the limelight when Haim and Feldman were reunited on reality show The Two Coreys.
In an interview on CNN's Larry King Live that same year, Haim called himself ''a chronic relapser for the rest of my life''.
At the height of his fame, Haim dated Drew Barrymore and Alyssa Milano.
Writing on her Twitter today, Milano said: ''Just woke up to the sad, sad news that Corey Haim passed away. RIP sweet boy.''
The actor briefly dated Victoria Beckham before she hit the big time with the Spice Girls.
But Posh says the relationship was never consummated: ''We didn’t have sex or anything. In actual fact, he didn’t seem to want to try. The most we did was kiss.''
Meanwhile, Haim said Beckham was a rubbish kisser and used to chew his lip.
And below that article is this stirring reader comment:

to the people who sit here and bag drug addicts. you guys a realy the ones who need to vanish or fade away....one thing i know about drug addicts is most of them have compassion and thats something non drug addicts dont have, i bet if it was your daughter or son or mother or father then it would be a different story wouldnt it....such losers , you should never speak ill of the dead.also the reason he faded away and went to the drug life was because he was molested as a child star and couldnt quite come to terms with the fact people knew and no one helpped him....not even his good mate corey feldman...thats why they fell out........learn some diggnity ...learn to realise not critasise
That's so weird, I think I was watching Lost Boys after my first joint. WOAH!
that's some hott spelling right there.
I always thought there was a gay subtext to his character in LBs, sorta wussy with a Rob Lowe poster up in his room....etc....Feldman on the other hand, wooh I reckon I'd still hit it. Just like the beach at Normandy............
hott diggnity dawg!
Geez this is really sad. Hollywood can be fickle. its fickleness probably helped kill him.
And... scene!

I genuinely did think he was already dead.
jimmy, what important moment did corey do, exactly? What is it that you'll miss? How did Corey Haim contribute to your day to day happiness?
wow. just found out.
sad news... not that i was a particular fan, but i don't like people to be so unhappy
good article in the global toronto
What? Molested? Was he also hanging out at Neverland with Feldman?
yes, they're oh so compassionate when they're stealing personal property from your house.
at least now you can tell the difference between the two coreys
boom-tish... in a totally disrespectful fashion
i guess The Thrills now have the answer to their question.
I always imagined corey's demise would be death by stereo.
