typo? mistake?

cupojo  said about 1 year ago:

So they released a press release when she was appointed for four years back in 2006 ... why no release if she's been re-appointed for a further 12 months? Original appointment was meant to expire April 2010 ....

annehelena  said about 1 year ago:

Ah, but she's done such a good job though...

cupojo  said about 1 year ago:

Hasn't she just...

Block  said about 1 year ago:

maybe its for some other board or something but it stinks a little to me.

The powerbrokers and young turks at Spring Street all went to law school or did an MBA. They're not gonna sack Sue McClellan, just because she's disliked by a few thousand musos, hipsters and drunks from Fitzroy. In fact, their protesting is more likely to keep Sue McClellan in her job.

Better to focus on the issues, not demonising a particular person.

chuckler  said about 1 year ago:

Maybe do an FOI on the process of reappointment.

Was this publicly advertised for the many qualified M+N crew who may have wished to apply?

Maybe they're giving her another year to UNF#@K it up so that she ends up looking like one of the golden girls!

timewaster  said about 1 year ago:

Yes, the Director of Liquor Licensing should be Wally Meanie or Fred Negro.

sister  said about 1 year ago:

they're afraid of the ''backflip on alcohol'' line in an election year. There are more votes in moral panic than our dirty black jeans.

''She can solve all this with the stroke of a pen''.

'' SUE Maclellan, director of Liquor Licensing Victoria, is expected to be the first casualty of the Victorian government's decision to merge liquor licensing and gambling regulators.

Ms Maclellan's five-year term ends in five weeks and a senior government source said she would not be making the transition to the new joint regulatory body

Not a farewell party but that's the best I've got.

Although while that's happening very very quietly The Brumby Government is implementing ''Stronger powers for the Director of Liquor Licensing to order CCTV cameras be installed outside premises; and Stronger powers enabling the Director of Liquor Licensing to suspend liquor licences.

Just letting you know.

kuroneko  said about 1 year ago:

That press release was from last year. The compliance officers have definitely been in full force for the last 12 months.

juicenewton*  said about 1 year ago:

SACKED.

Huzzah! Although may not result in tangible wins just yet, it' all in the symbolism.

No one to replace her yet either AKA we don't have anyone better, we just know we don't want you.

monkeyman  said about 1 year ago:

So some of the Tote staff get their jobs back and she loses hers.

Good.

Gambling and liquor regulators are to be merged, so they only need one boss anyway.

astrousersasmind  said about 1 year ago:

Fantastic news! I hope...

happycow  said about 1 year ago:

The merger of liquor and gambling regulators can only be very bad news. Especially considering how close the gambling companies are to the government and how much they want pokies in every fucking pub and bar in the state.

With the ALH group they're already half way there.

poprocks96  said about 1 year ago:

You realise Victoria is the only state that doesn't have a combined liquor and gaming department?

sam  said about 1 year ago:

You realise that Victoria has the best live music venues / scene in Australia? I'd say there's a link.

poprocks96  said about 1 year ago:

What is the link between us having a vibrant scene and our liquor and gaming departments not being merged, sam?

Do you actually know what the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation do?

Modi  said about 1 year ago:

Unless they are going to force licensed venues to install pokies, I can't see the problem. And I have never heard of that. Some small towns in Victoria have even got rid of pokies altogether.

dashofgin  said about 1 year ago:

I don’t think it matters if the liquor licensing and gaming departments are merged. What matters is the actual policies coming from the government on how to deal with liquor licensing which at the moment are aimed at reducing the amount of liquor liscences out there by ramping up the fees, imposing costly conditions on venues, etc . All of these things hurt live music venues the most as they have a much smaller profit margin than say clubs on king street. Until Labor changes their approach we’re still going to have the same problems.
