Awesome English duo Icarus are both going to be in Australia shortly, and we're lucky enough to get a few gigs out of them for the first time ever. Ollie Bown is currently based in Melbourne but his cousin Sam Britton is living in Berlin I believe.
The first two Icarus albums were premium-quality drum'n'bass influenced by the triumvirate of Photek, Paradox and Plug. Gotta respect that. They've both also got a background in academic electronic music (musique concrete, electro-acoustic music) as well as improv, and their live shows are decidedly live. The experimental elements gradually have come more to the fore with their music, and it's appropriate that they remixed their mate Four Tet a few years back.
They're like an amalgam of folktronica, free improv and electro-acoustic music, while retaining the tempo and movement of drum'n'bass. ROCKIN.

The Sydney show is part of Emily McDaniel's REFRACTION series at UTS's Bon Marche Studio. And excellent environment to hear this music, along with Canberra's Shoeb Ahmad (our own hellosQuare), Jon Hunter from Songs (wehey!) and an up-and-coming UTS student Jordan Bryon.
Friday 26th of March, 6:30pm. $5/$10.
It's cheap, it's early, it's awesome.
In Canberra they're playing in Studio 2 at the Street Theatre with Shoeb again, plus Reuben Ingars and Luke Penders, on Thursday the 25th of March.

Facebook event for Sydney show is here.
Maybe Shoeb can post poster/more details re Canbster gig.
