Has anyone else heard about the new laws in South Australia which state that any comment you make anywhere on the internet (chat rooms, forums, blogs, comments on news sites, twitter, etc etc) must be accompanied by the authors name and post code and failure to do so would result in prosecution. This would essentially mean that any criticism of the government on the ebay forum must include your full name and post code.
This is 1930’s nazi germany style stuff, how does the government expect to enforce this.
Here is a link to an article on the new laws

And for the record BOTH parties rubber stamped this through the senate.

bwahahaha.
hahaha this is like when australia post wanted to charge people for sending e-mail.
Rann is up to no good and is gonna beat down on y'all if y'all up in his bidness.
Big Brother is watching and is paranoid.
That's absolutely insane.

Mike Rann's a poo poo head.
Looks like Chad Sexington will be making a lot of comments.
These people really don't understand how the intertubes work, do they?
Xenophon is from SA, yes?
Must be something in the water.
Godwin got in quick this time.
It's a silly thing and if people kick up enough of a stink (HINT: Starting a Facebook group is not kicking up a stink) it won't last but comparing it to Fascism? Puh-leeze.
Sorry your totally right, this type of law has no similiarities whatsover to the gradual eroding of civil liberties that occurs when a country slips into totalitarianism it just our leaders doing whats best for the nation I guess.
Slow day in the Liberal office is it overandout?
Fark off with your political scare-mongering.
If you make a post about the South Australian election from another state, can you be extradited to face charges?
SA seems to gone completely off the rails lately
I ain't sayin' I think the law ain't a bad thing - I'm sayin' that comparing it to Fascism (note the captial ''F'') is a pretty big ask.
These dingleberries have been smoking too much hooch.
This is just incredibly silly - there's not one bit of this that could possibly work or be enforced properly. If there was any consultation with the tech community (which i doubt) i'm guessing it was met with either stunned silence or uproarious laughter...
It is insane but it's not a broad as would appear from the previous posts. I think it only comes in effect when an election is called and only for election-related posts.
Attorney-General Michael Atkinson vows to repeal election internet censorship law
Pretty piss poor attempt at a fascist take over.
It's a bit like the You'll Love Coles comments then.
jn* - forever trying to introduce 'you'll love coles' into any conversation.
That's why they lost the war. Too much time tweeting.

great post
when are they going to vote this fucktard out?
So people should be able to make anonymous political statements about elections without any accountability?
people should have be able to make up their own minds if they want to take comments on a website or blog seriously, so yes.. people should be able to make whatever statements they want.
I dunno, but I think only Danny or Jase can ban chats. But let's have a vote: who wants overandout to be banned?
PS Serious issue.
yes

yes
Most definitely.
Aside from the internet, that is not the case with other media, as far as I know. Isn't that what all the ''written and authorised'' garble is all about?
FUCK YES
''Dear Picture Magazine
I don't like John Howard - i think he's a cunt - i hope he doesn't get elected

More likely ''name and address witheld''
uh yes dude.
speaking freely without fear of reprisal is sorta what democracy is about.
y'know the famous Speakers Corner in London?
the one where citizens can freely speak their minds?
well do you see them wearing name badges and having to hand over the drivers licence prior to speaking?
Um, no, because you could just follow them home. I don't think it's the same thing, there's less anonymity there than writing a letter to the newspaper.
modi, you're just making up an argument for the sake of having something to post. i don't buy for a moment that you believe what you're posting. it's obsessive behaviour, and should be contained. please think before posting.
have a quick google about the AG in SA.
dude has already tried pressuring the Electoral Commission into handing over details of people to have a crack at them for libel for comments made on forums (y'know trying to cross reference the electoral roll by seeing if there really was a John Smith, of Adelaide) and has threatened legal action against the admins of a facebook group protesting a dodgy council land swap. and for that one, he wasn't named on the facebook group - no politicians were but he assumed it was in reference to him as the papers had mentioned his name in connection with it.
oh, and he also refuses to hand over HIS address when writing to papers.
why?
because he won't confirm of deny he's moved out of his electorate.
also, him (and ALL ) politicians can and do say far, far, far more damaging and slanderous things under the protection of ''parliamentary privilege''
as well as still being able to accept ''anonymous'' donations.
so fuck them.
and finally, double fuck them for an attach on a basic democratic rights.
I think its a disgrace.
You got me, rigid, my heart wasn't really in that one.
Dissent Modi. You get it, I know you do.
