I remember it. I remember the main ballroom had holes in the stage and it was falling down and no-body was in it in its last days. we used to check it out when playing the corner.
riverside mutherfucka!
man o man what a place!
yep. next to the silos at punt and the river. Played there in a grindcore band 91ish. i remember skinheads.
I'm pretty sure I laid down my heavy load down by it once or twice in my time.
was always curious about that joint, thanks for the historical shots slayer
ahh yeah that's ok. isn't it wierd looking at that infrastructure with those 60s cars. like 3 cars. theres that shot of the road overpass and 3 ole 60s cars on it. so much concrete..
played there a couple of times too. it looked nice in the 1940's. complete shithole in the late 80's early 90's.
Walking Melbourne is such a great site.
Speaking of lost Richmond pubs, who knows what about the Anchor & Hope which was about 2 blocks down from the Great Britian? The year I moved to White St Richmond it got knocked down and made into apartments or some such.
Great to see those historical photos. Amazing what an overpass will do for the ambience of a place.
also see: The Rising Sun Hotel in Footscray, would have been a ripper of an after-game pub for the Footscray FC, now a deserted wasteland thanks to the Geelong Rd overpass.
I used to see my friends band play there all the time in 92/93. It was a pokey little maze of a place. Loved it.
I remember it, but I don't think I ever went inside.
