Judy - what did you say about Press Club lunch? I'm all over that shit.
i have no current recs but i'm posting here so it'll show up in my participated threads.
Press Club lunch menu, k2
anywhere in Camberwell area that can be recommended for lunch?
magic city used to be good.
New cheap eats out today!
Have you tried looking on urbanspoon, sharpy?
here
i like urbanspoon. How do I get ''kudos'' on that thing? Apparently I have three
Made a reservation with Cutler and Co, but heard nothing back to confirm. When I rang they had no record of the booking and offered me a timed session (had to be out in 90 mins) which was ok but not really what I wanted. When we couldn't make it for that night, I rang back (again, no confirmation from them two days beforehand) to cancel and found I still wasn't on the reservations list. Pretty poor.
sharpy!
if it's not too late, come to the geebung polo club in east hawthorn/auburn (one stop away from camberwell) and i will be involved in cooking your lunch.
oh nice idea foxy – might just do that.
will be on friday – my last day in my current job
Went to Punch Lane on Monday night. It was an astoundingly brilliant way to combat the post-festival blues. I had what was quite possibly the most exquisite risotto I have ever tasted (roast pumpkin and zucchini, fresh peas and toasted pine nuts) and the giant green house-cured olives are to die for. The two bottles of Segura Viudas didn't go amiss either. The staff are absolute gems, and all the mahogany fittings and plush armchairs-as-diningroom seating makes for the most perfect rainy evening languid dining experience. If only they had a smoking lounge where one could recline with a pipe and a good single malt...
Yesterday I went to Mamasita with CaptainFez, mealzebub, basil seal and saucyjack, and it was INCREDIBLE. Top shelf tequila with sangrita chasers and multiple 'Micheladas' (Mexican beer with tomato juice and habanero sauce in a salt rimmed glass FOR THE WIN). Crispy fried potatoes with chillies and parsley, amazing smokey black beans, fresh tortillas with flawless guacamole, quinoa, sweet corn and coriander salad, broad beans with pickled beetroot and agave, tostaditas with beans, corn and jalapenos, and pico de gallo I wanted to eat straight from the bowl... It was just too much. Next time I'm keen to see if they can do a vegan version of the bullhorn chiles stuffed with wild mushrooms, pepitas and epazote in pumpkin sauce and the stuffed zucchini flower tamales. I need to stop talking about this now because I'm starting to drool on my keyboard.
I think a boozy lunch at Journal Canteen is on the cards for today. I'll report back with my findings.
I'm going to Mamasita on Thursday night, really looking forward to it! Did you have to wait long for a table Judy? I see they don't take bookings.
We rocked up just before five, and it was empty. As in, we were the only people there. By the time we left at 7:30, it was practically full. So I'd say get in early and get sauced on tequila and/or cocktails before getting stuck in to the food.
Ditto just reading...
Holy shit. I need to go to both of those places, Dickcrank.
That risotto sounds friggin incredible.
We're planning on gettting there at 630 so should be ok, I think.
I'm thinking a vegan Mexican themed boozehounding session may be in order, peaches...
I've been meaning to go to Mamasita for a few weeks now. I'd better get in quick before it's so adored you can't get a table...

supper inn? (their suckling pigs good, so err, y'know)
How was Aqui k2? Thinking it's time I gave it another go
Great as usual - though I reckon I'd rather order a la carte, than have the $75 set. One of the dishes was a shoulder of lamb that had been cooked for 24 hours. Man, I ate way too much of that. One thing I found odd was that the set menu didn't include a dessert course.
Do not go near Bar Lourinha. Ever.
After Mrs Dudikoff booked a pre-wedding dinner there, today, three weeks out from the function, they refused to accomodate the booking. The owners did not want it, apparently. For reasons unspecified and unknown.
This is of course the discretion of someone who owns a business. It's understandable, but in the first instance any concerns or problems should have been communicated to us. Instead, they told us that the person who organised the function for us two months ago no longer works there. Which, of course, has nothing to do with the problem we now face, three weeks out from a date which people have booked from interstate to attend.
Secondly, any attempt to broker a compromise (wherein we would do whatever they wanted for the function to go ahead) was met with a steadfast ''no'' - no discussion, nothing. When asked why, the answer was again ''the owner does not want your business''. Bizarre, to say the least. All that had occurred at this stage was that credit card details had been given and the booking secured a few months back.
I'd speculate that a better offer for more people in the Christmas party season came along - but that would never happen now, would it ?
Matt McConnell and ''the owners'' were apparently in the back room, and refused to come out or even acknowledge us.
Instead, it was left to the hipster doofus fuckwit on front-of-house to deliver the message.
It was tolerable at best (he was after all merely the unfortunate messenger) until he too launched into a self-serving rant at the end about how it ''had been a waste of Bar Lourinha's time too''.
When, of course, we still wanted to proceed with the function.
But we were being prohibited from doing just that. For reasons completely unknown.
I chose the better path at that point and just walked out. I am still bewildered as to what the fuck actually went on.
Regardless of the quality of their food (and I have loved my experiences there in the past), it's apparently a a pretty appallingly run organisation apparently premised around cowardice (''the owners have decided'' ... well, the owners who are sitting on their ass can come and talk to us perhaps ?) and avarice.
Worth remembering next time you're considering dinner in the city.
Shall avoid.
Yeah that's fucked Dudikoff- sorry to hear that. Hope you're able to work something else out
Sorry if already discussed, has anyone been to the Crimean? I, as usual, am 5 seconds off the pace, and only just discovered what could be a bastion of eastern eruo tastiness v. close to home.
Excited to give it a whirl ASAP
Pretty looking room too.
Please assist
Victoria Street Richmond, we all know Thy Thy and it's cheap and cheerful fare - and I am told of another place on Victoria Street which is also cheap and cheerful but better than Thy Thy but I can't remember it's name. But it has a name like Thy Thy, as in 2 words that are the same.
Can you help?
Thank you
shoulda googled first...Minh Minh! I think...
Binh Minh!
p.s. hi orange_blossoms :)
So there is a new place opened up in Inverleigh called Gladioli about a half hour outta Geelong by ex Pettavel and Baveras chef.
Very nice and good value. Four course tasting menu for $ 60 or 85 with matched wines - exceptional value really.
Every other place on Vic Street is better than Thy Thy. Minh Minh is really nice, slightly classier than most. I also like Ha Long and Tan Ha 2.
Docklands is a culinary hell hole. However. New Korean place cafe de kikaku is a winner. It's just up from Gloria jeans.
try T'Relek as well, new kid on the block, very nice
got a good writeup with the Age
but yeah, i am majorly addicted to Minh Minh's fried rice
where's gloria jeans in docklands? place it to spread out for its own good.
On the corner of bourke st and harbour esplanade.
cheers, might go for a wander tomorrow.
Has anyone been to the Wayside Inn on City Road? Probably no good for vegans but Jesus that menu looks appealing.
