a new single - let's go surfing - a kind of barracudas-style surf pop number with a delightful whistling solo... got me hooked enough to buy it on itunes

they're probably the kind of band pitchfork hate though

here they are on youtube

and myspazz

amplexus  said about 2 years ago:

lol they have this on their myspace page:

''New York's official Coolest New Band...''

but I do dig the muzac. my excitement turned flaccid when I noticed they're not touring here.

coolestjerk  said about 2 years ago:

check out the comments section on that video.

The Drums? what kind of lame name is ........ oh, they're indie, that explains it.

They're not even living up to their name. Just another faggot ass indie shit band.

untold/animals  said about 2 years ago:

Hahaha. It's a cute poppy song and they'll probably go on to do nothing much of great note. So it goes.

theparisend  said about 2 years ago:

yep, get the 7'' now, because the reunion tour is a long way off yet

and > ''New York's official Coolest New Band...''

anything official is officially lame

coolestjerk  said about 1 year ago:

did your band not get signed to modular or something?

that is correct, and I am very upset about it

MrsGideon  said about 1 year ago:

Looking for two tickets to the Melbourne show, if anyone needs to offload.

TransientRandom  said about 1 year ago:

This band wasn't for me at all, but the crowd was huge and appreciative. Go early and see the Motifs!

anok  said about 1 year ago:

surprised how much backing track was going on with these guys. i like some of their songs on record, but live it wasn't for me. strutting singer dude was just shrieking the vox by the end. motifs were pretty good, though.

nyx  said about 1 year ago:

I quite liked them live although I will admit it was a bit different to recorded which I think is probably better. I really wish that this gig had have been played in Summer and I'd had way more energy to dance around to it. It's that kind of music. The lead dude was pretty overexcited for a cold winter night.

Motifs were great, nice to see them on a big stage.

pking  said about 1 year ago:

whistle songs... like the peter bjorn and john tune their surfing song will live gloriously on my stereo for a couple of weeks before suddenly and violently backlashing.

anok  said about 6 months ago:

anyone into the newy? angstier!!

anonymous  said about 3 months ago:

Watching them now, nothing special. Cults were way more interesting.

astrousersasmind  said about 3 months ago:

Thought Cults were great but Drums were really really good. Singer was nowhere near as camp as last time but the band can now manage more than one note at a time, which could have been band but is actually ace. Special props to Danny Lee Allen, their new drummer who used to play in Youth Group. Didn't play enough old stuff but the new stuff was almost as catchy. Crowd (except Nony) went nuts.

anok  said about 3 months ago:

i really like this stupid band for some reason. quite excited to see them tonight.

registradus  said about 3 months ago:

they australian?

anok  said about 3 months ago:

nah

ichabod  said about 3 months ago:

the sound sucked (thanks, Palace Theatre) but they were great. I had fun.

Jonathan Pierce is a perfect cross between Edwyn Collins and Morrissey.

Copernicus  said about 3 months ago:

checked them out last night at the palace as I scored a free ticket for me and a friend. we both didn't really feel anything watching them - it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. cults were a lot more enjoyable.

chrisj  said about 3 months ago:

they were fucking lame at laneway.
