It's going to kill my bank balance.

frigid star  said about 5 years ago:

I'm going to kill Kate Ceberano.. but thats another story.. But yes, there are some nice looking shows on this here line up, Gary Burton would be a highlight for me.

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

oh yeh! Thanks tangy, I read about this on the weekend.

McCoy Tyner Trio!!!!#

damn straight. Pharoah Sanders was good last time I saw him (even though he was barely on stage for most of the evening), playing "spot the jazz ponytail" was fun.

frigid star  said about 5 years ago:

$85 is out of my budget range unfortunately..

anonymous  said about 5 years ago:

i might just go to the fed square free shows. yup yup.

bxckxtrxdxr  said about 5 years ago:

looks total shit.

evil shmazz and elevator swing.

no cultural credibility for the latest installment of the ill-fated melbourne international jazz festival debacle.

Wang is way more credible than this commercial cynicism.

tangy_zizzle  said about 5 years ago:

It's very populist, but it'll satisfy an audience. Why bother trying to push shit uphill in this town?

anonymous  said about 5 years ago:

poor dizzy's

questionmark  said about 5 years ago:

surely populist is james morrison and don burrows and winton marsalis

Goal attack  said about 5 years ago:

tangy_zizzle  said about 5 years ago:

Morrison is on the bill... of course.

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

I picked up my festival pass today.

PelicanGodOfJupiter  said about 4 years ago:

Went to three shows on the weekend.

Friday night was Chick Corea and Gary Burton. Pretty awesome, although kinda traditional and was more for music theory nerds.

Saturday night was The Chick Corea Trio feat. Frank Gambale - this gig was THE FUCKING SHIZNIT! Two hours flew by in some amazing musicianship that my lame arse attempt at describing in a paragraph here will never do justice. Check out Antonio Sanchez - the drummer for the night.

Yesterday I saw Gary Burton again at Federation Square. It was good to see him up close and I was with a friend who played the vibes, so he could explain a lot of stuff to me.

Tonight I'm off to see Jens Winther down at Bennetts Lane.

tangy_zizzle  said about 4 years ago:

Sat night's show was indeed awesome.

Here's Frank Gambale the guitarist Chick Corea played with.

AlasNoAxis / Chiri double bill was excellent.

AlasNoAxis supposedly playing a bennetts lane show tomorrow night, 11pm.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is sold out, so err, if anyone has a spare ticket, let me know!

Copernicus  said about 8 months ago:

was working on merch at the forum so got free entry to chiri and the arkestra - god seeing chiri in that venue was unreal - and the arkestra were fucking amazing, topped the night before as well. couldn't see jim black so will be at the tuesday show for sure.

garumph  said about 8 months ago:

Would have loved to see Chiri. Time and money prevented me from doing so. Their Fed Square slot was amazing.

lima  said about 8 months ago:

I've got a concession ticket to Faust and I won't be able to go now:

It's yours for $20 (I paid 30 something). I work in St Albans but if you transfer me the cash, I'll email it onto you.

PM me, bro!

hungryhungryhippo  said about 8 months ago:

Is there a support for hbe? Playing times anyone?

hungryhungryhippo  said about 8 months ago:

Hypnotic brass ensemble were a lot of fun. If I had a time machine I would like to attend a family sunday roast at their parents.

pandad  said about 8 months ago:

Lee Konitz (born October 13, 1927 died June 9, 2011) ?

Hellzapoppin  said about 8 months ago:

Shit hey, I heard he was sick.

bxckxtrxdxr  said about 8 months ago:

WTF? Is he just sick, or as you suggest pandad?

Hellzapoppin  said about 8 months ago:

I gather Pandad is going by the Wikipedia entry which was updated by someone rather thoroughly who also happens to like plate tectonics.

Hellzapoppin  said about 8 months ago:

In the short time since this evening's concert featuring Lee Konitz was cancelled, rumours have spread about Mr Konitz's condition.

We can confirm that Mr Konitz is receiving medical care and is in a stable condition. He has not had a heart attack and rumours of his death are unfounded.

Our thoughts and well wishes are with Mr Konitz and his family and we ask that their privacy is respected at this time.

Hellzapoppin  said about 8 months ago:

hmmm... fuck you non-universal inequality markup.

somnia  said about 8 months ago:

Sun Ra in Hobart this evening at MONA with Mr Konitz Trio... or maybe not? Hope he's okay.

iguessso  said about 8 months ago:

He was taken from his hotel in an ambo. I know that much. He won't be performing again for this festival.

pandad  said about 8 months ago:

Sorry for jumping the gun posting that, was just surprised to see someone had done that to his wikipedia - they weren't even that fast for Bob Davis. Best wishes to him.

Tango&Cash  said about 8 months ago:
